@@rampage3337 Yeah 15k doesnt make sense, in the us the 450rl is 10k, which is a little more than the 450x its based on (never got the rl branding its based on the x not r...), most of the cost is in frame and suspension, the 450rl comes with great suspension and only weighs around 300lbs, and once you fix the ignition is around 50 horse, which although is slower than the 600rr (400lbs 100 horse) still gives you a bike that will do most of what a 600rr will do, and a whole lot more (and over a grand cheaper after the ignition) and the dual-sports seem to hold their value much better than the sport bikes

Years ago I worked at a local Kawi dealer and still know some guys there, and the owner. The moment I saw they were doing the KLX300 with efi I had to have one. I grew up watching my dad on his mid 90's KLR250 which has long been discontinued and I feel like this is the closest thing to that they make to that now. I called my old sales buddy and said hey when will you get one of those KLX300's? I want one. He had no idea but said he'd call me, might be July. I was so bummed on the time frame I was about to go buy a DRZ400S 2020 left over at another dealer, but two days before I could get there the salesman called me as they were taking it off the semi and said hey I got one, do you want it? I said hell yeah! I would have preferred the green one over the camo but hey it is what it is and I have one now so all is good. Loving it so far, can't wait to get the break in period over with.

Glad to see you made it through the psycho-ness that happened in Texas Jake. I will say the Z900RS is the single most comfortable bike I've ever sat on and are FAR lighter than you'd think they are. I sat on a Honda CB1100 and it hurt my hip and the suspension just collapsed under my 275lbs (at the time) and it was WAY too short.. almost like sitting on a Harley. It was also a lot heavier feeling and pretty hard to lift up off the side stand. The Z900RS though I actually almost dropped it off the right side because it came off the stand so easily. Even with barely a 32 inch inseam at best, I still found myself wanting to sit right on the strap behind the scoop in the seat to have more room for my thighs and was still flat footing it. But OMFG that seat is so damn comfortable! Way more comfy than even any bagger I've ever sat on. If I would've had the money I would've brought that bike home with me.. and the brown/orange paint was pretty too. The brown actually has like a red wine pearl in it too. The big difference between the Z900 and the Z900RS (in the engine) is they retuned it to make more torque and less horsepower. It also has the distinction of being the first motorcycle that Kawasaki ever tuned the exhaust to make it sound good. (Can you tell I love that bike?)

Love your review. I've owned a 2019 MT-07. That bike's just twitchy. Very snatchy throttle and crap on the highway. I've owned 2 Ninja 1000's. Beautiful bikes capable of more than the rider can do on anything other than a track. But they get heavy in the city after a while. Which is why I downsized to the 2020 Ninja 650 KRT ABS. SO much more fun. I also own a 1986 Yamaha SRX600. That's my current history. I'm 60. Let's keep this current. I attended a Kawasaki demo day recently. 1st bike - the 900RS (not the cafe). Impression - awesome bike they only needs a good windscreen. Beautiful ergos, tight suspension yet smooth over potholes. 2nd bike - the KLR650 Adventure - fully loaded. To me the best bike as far as comfort, handling, not intimidating power, and it's a single. I'd buy this any day of the week over the Versys 650. The Adventure is $9k MSRP. That's fully loaded. Price compare that against the Versys and talk about cheap maintenance? KLR. I liked it so much I ride it again at the end of the day. It feels nothing on the road. Railroad tracks, big potholes - nothing. I sat through them. Sometimes ya gotta love a soft suspension. 3rd bike. - Versys 650 - Over-price and over weight. If you like this bike I'd say buy the V-Strom instead. The engine has character and better low down torque. 4th bike - the KLX300sm. This thing was just a blast! Brakes were amazing as the leader jammed his brakes on at a stop instead of going through the yellow. He turned sideways. I did a stopie...lol. Fun as hell thrashing the throttle. I'm getting one of these! Better suspension than the Honda 300L. Same price.

My favorite current Kawi? Ninja 400! I love a lightweight, fuel efficient, peppy, handsome and modern sportbike at a great price. I own the predecessor, Ninja 300. With a few bolt-on parts, mine hits 0-60 in a quick-for-its-size 4.7sec, tops out at 120mph with stock gearing. The 400 with the same mods would hit 60mph in under 4secs. Easy riding, I've gotten 81MPG on the 300. Enough power to force a smile, but very economical and fun on the twisties. These 'baby Ninjas' are quite handsome and reliable too. I like a lot of motorcycles, but the 'baby Ninjas' are where Kawasaki dominates as 'best in a particular class'. The original, the one the competitors emulate. Lots of other great Kawi's, but most are just 'staying competitive' with other bikes in the segment. The H2 is great, but way overcomplicated/overpriced and not as aerodynamic as Suzuki's Hayabusa. Without Hayabusa, there wouldn't be an H2 or ZX14. ZX14 is now discontinued, but 'Busa powers on. Likewise, without Ninja 250, 300, 400, there wouldn't be an R3 or CBR300r. I'd love Kawi to bless America with that screaming inline-4 ZX-25r, but it's not gonna happen. In 'Murica the size of your engine represents the size of your 'something else', therefore it wouldn't sell well.

That said, it’s a good enough line up for what I like. Keep the videos coming, I have a feeling when you get to Suzuki... you will be harsh... and rightly so. They are trapped in time. Most of their bikes are ancient and heavy compare to how Yamaha and Kawasaki has been modernizing.

I used to have a Z900RS, and let me tell you... it's a very different bike than the Z900. And no, the tank is not a cover. It's a real metal tank. What I loved about the Z900RS is that it rode as nicely as it looked. Super smooth throttle, comfy seat, linear powerband (same engine as the Z900, but tuned for more lower-end torque, and less peaky horsepower). The frame is similar, but the rear section is flatter to accommodate the plush seat. The suspension is also tuned slightly differently, which makes it a much nicer machine to ride.

Agreed about the missed opportunity on the KLR. I think they'll sell more than enough to make back the money they stuck into the "redesign" though. I'll bet they have a Tenere competitor in the works too. I got a bunch of crap about how my new Tenere will be less reliable... No doohickey to worry about and almost twice the amount of miles between valve adjustments sooo not sure what they're talking about lol.

I bet an ecu flash and it’s the same power. But it’s close enough.
@thinkdunson

@@TheGardenSnake just about all the geometries are different. including the shape of the muffler... both the header shape and the muffler internals are significantly different. so i doubt an ecu flash would make it the same. the dyno results look very similar, but the rs torque curve is a bit more wavy. so i think if they could have, they would have made it exactly the same, but they were more concerned with how it looks, and how the exhaust note sounds. all the reviews say that it feels like it has much more torque down low. it does have more, but only like 3-4 ftlbs, and only for a very short range. the other geometries are different too, like rake/trail, wheelbase, footpeg position, seat height/shape... so it's going to sit and handle differently. even slightly different geometries can drastically change feel and handling. i only brought it up because all the reviews i've seen agree that they're not the same. whatever they did to the engine, everyone says that it sounds and feels very different. so just trust me i'm an expert... at watching youtube videos about this type of thing! i do ride a hell of a lot (maybe 80k miles so far), but i've only owned three bikes. and i do all my own regular maintenance, so maybe i'm kind of a newb, but not a complete newb. just about every review on the rs will mention a little of how it's different, but there is one good direct comparison between the two. if you have time, maybe check it out... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rMiPeKhott7WZ3k.html talk about the rs starts at 4.36 one of my bikes is a z900, and i can't leave without saying how fucking great of a bike it is. cheers!

I got rid of my Grom and got the FZ. I regret it too but also the FZ make's so much more sense. Since I live in a town not connected directly to any others I have to always get on the highway to ride. So I was having to truck my grom into town to ride. That was silly.

The new KLR is a fucking joke. If I wanted to go on an adventure ride slowly, the Himalayan does just as well and could be farkled within an inch of its life for what Kawasaki is charging for their 35 year old KLR. The only good thing I can say about the KLR is I think it's pretty good looking with that Sand color

I really wanted an older KLR-650 for my first bike, but couldn't find one nearby in my price range so I ended up buying some weird old dual sport I'd never heard of instead. It was rough learning on it, but I'm not sure what I could ever get to replace my XR650R.
