The sorcerer is the movie that made a fan of William Friedkin l sew it when .l was 10 years old the sorcerer change my view on how .l sew movies and what l Expect from them the something with the music.l listen . Tangerine dream was big part of it .l remember waking up to my local Kmart and askng them if they had the sound track they did only on 8 track .l play it so much .l broke it .l would have to wait 15 years see it again on VHS .lm now 54 years and still watch it once or twice a year on blue ray it never Gets old it a masterpiece of a film. thank you William Friedkin .

The Exorcist is a notch above all the regular Halloween crap. It is on a different level. It is an exceptionally well made film. The film is art.

I found out about Sorcerer because of Tangarine Dream's soundtrack, which I purchased in 78. I had seen Clozot's version in 68 on tv and loved it and I got to see Friedkin's Sorcerer on cable in 81 or 82. I had to see this movie more than once over the next decade to really appreciate how good it is, I prefer it over the original but not by much.

He's right. There's no catharsis anymore. Art itself was the risk, and if humanity can't displace, it will thus engulf itself. You can't contain this process. That's why commerce flourished because art provided this "safe space," granting the freedom to help people stay connected to this accepted psychodynamic reality. The suspension of disbelief. This medium had been destroyed through the delusion of what humanity "should" and ought to be. Denial isn't a river in Egypt.

To live and Die in LA does not get the credit it deserves (historically). I would argue that the car chase is even better than the French Connection. DaFoe was a great bad guy. What I like about all of Friedkin’s classic movies is the realism. Today’s action movies, thrillers etc., feel the need to be over the top. I don’t like that. The audience connects with a movie and it’s characters when they believe it’s real.

Damn that was epic

The interviewer is enthusiastic and thorough but needs to calm down a little. I’ve listened to a number of other interviews on KZfaq with Friedkin talking about The French Connection. So I already knew how he had to be mean to Hackman in order to motivate him to capture the essence of Popeye Doyle. What never gets mentioned is that Doyle in the movie says the word n*gger once and only once. And that comes after his partner Russo (Roy Scheider) is patched up after being slashed with a knife in the arm by the drug dealer they had to chase after he ran out of the bar. The French Connection is one of the best movies of any genre ever made.
