He called this particular guitar his "first wife", or #1. He died in a helicopter crash in the early morning of August 27, 1990 after leaving a three day concert where he played with his brother, Jimmie Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and a host of others. Hearts broke all over the world that day! I still cry every time I see or hear him play.

Best slow blues guitar performance ever recorded, Stevie was a master of blues and soul and theres so much more for you to see of him.

BB King said that performing with Stevie was nerve racking, because he would hang out his improv so far over the edge BB would think over and over again that it had to crash in flames. Stevie proved him wrong every single time.

Sadly, I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad after the show that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Stevie's brother Jimmie and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV!

He grew up very poor and the family was moving around every few months around Dallas, TX (father was a traveling salesman and always drinking). But from around age 7, SRV was always playing that guitar. He failed music class with a big fat F, never learned to read music and dropped out of high school to play in bars in Austin! It just goes to show you that all along, he 100% played by sound with his very soul and his uncanny playing was getting noticed in Jr High. He had it rough, fell into alcoholism and coke and 100% cleaned himself up, helping people into joining AA and to stay away from alcohol and drugs. A blues legend that played with BB King, Johnny Copeland, Albert King, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and a slew of others. Highly recommend LIFE WITHOUT YOU at Capitol Theater (he takes a moment to speak). I tear up when I see it. Always loved and most certainly never forgotten! We love you SRV! ✌🏼❤️

I am 62 years "young" and when SRV burst onto the scene, my ex-husband and I were immediately in love. We already had a respectable blues collection. We had the honor of seeing this man play live 3X. Once in Radio City Music Hall, which is a tiny venue with fine acoustics. OMG!!! SRV (as his fans call him) is the GOAT, when it comes to guitarists. It is reported that B.B. KIng said of him that he was "the blackest white man (blues wise) he had ever heard (paraphrased)." He was taken too soon. Dive into his catalog, you will see/hear...many Blessings.

Yep. That guitar needed a cigarette after that one. Stevie was one of a kind. A conduit straight to the gods of music. We are blessed to have shared this planet with him, even if for far too short of a time.

K Shavon, SRV is making funky with his guitar! If you watch one of these again look at how he bends the strings. It always amazes me that he rarely looks at his finger placement. He seems to KNOW exactly what to do to get that sound he wants. I read a story once that someone who met SRV and shook his hand was amazed at how big his hands were and that he was STRONG.

Check out the SRV story by the actor Stephen Tobolowsky. (Ned in Groundhog Day.) He played with "Steve Vaughn" for his first recording when he was 14! It's a good story. Please let me also suggest Roy Buchanan. Start with his version of Hey Joe. It'll knock you down.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas Texas on October 3,1954, he has a brother named Jimmie Vaughan who is a great guitarist In his own right and had a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jimmie got an electric guitar when Stevie was 7 yo and Stevie absolutely loved everything about it, on Stevie's 7th birthday he got a toy guitar with cowboys and Indians on it, even on a toy guitar he taught himself how to play Wine Wine Wine and Thunderbird by The Night. When Jimmie got a new Muddy Watters record he played it and Stevie said he was hooked and knew he wanted to play the Blues. When Stevie was 10 yo in 1964 he joined a band called Krackerjack along with Double Troubles basses Tommy Shannon and Jimmie gave Stevie his electric guitar for his gig at a roller rink. In 1968 he joined a band called The Chantones but quit when the singer wanted them to start wearing makeup on stage. In 1977 Stevie Ray put a band together called The Triple Threat Reuve with Lou Ann Barton on vocals but left the band on Nov 24,1979 so Stevie took over the vocals. Chris Layton on drums joined The Triple Threat Reuve on September 10,1978 and Tommy Shannon bass joined Double Trouble on June 23,1981 and Reese Wynans joined Double Trouble on June 7,1985 then in 1980 Stevie changed the name to Double Trouble. Everyone said Stevie Ray was a very sweet man who loved everyone and every Great Blues artists loved and respected Stevie. I know alot of people say others are better but show me any guitarist any at all who could play guitar behind his head, backwards, one hand, broken string, switch guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, play with his teeth, no hands just by moving the guitar up and down side to side, us his elbow and play behind his back longer than anyone ever could or ever will imo This song Texas Flood was written by Larry Davis and Joseph Scott in 1955 and Larry Davis recorded and released it in 1958. When. Stevie found out Larry Davis never got paid royalties Stevie paid Larry every dime out of his own pocket. Stevie's career only span 7 years but in that 7 yrs he accomplished so much starting with his 1st album Texas Flood released on June 13,1983 and he won so many awards on December 13,1983 Austin City Limits video was voted Guitar Player Magazine's Best New Talent ,Best Electric Blues Guitar Player and Best Guitar Album with Texas Flood, Stevie Ray and Jeff Beck are the only Triple Award Guitarist ever. On November 18,1984 Stevie won a W.C.Handy National Blues Award, Entertainer Of The Year and Instermental Of The Year, he was the first white man to win either. In 1982 he was the first musician to be inducted into The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, in 2000 he was inducted into The Blues Hall Of Fame and in 2015 The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and so much more. On August 26, 1990 Stevie went to East Troy Wisconsin to open 2 shows for Eric Clapton along with Robert Clay, Buddy Guy and Stevie's brother Jimmie Vaughan both shows sold out with 40,000 fans. Stevie came down from his hotel room and told Jimmie and the band he had a weird dream, he dreamed that he died and he was looking down at all these people crying and even though it was weird he felt at peace. On August 27,1990 after Eric Clapton finish his show Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy, Robert Clay and Jimmie Vaughan went on stage and the last song Stevie Ray ever performed was Sweet Home Chicago by Robert Johnson. After the show Stevie Ray boarded a helicopter that crashed into the side of a mountain right after takeoff and everyone on board were killed instantly, the pilot had just failed his test on using the gages for that helicopter, he never flew at night especially in fog and he never flew that helicopter so he should have never piloted that helicopter let alone carrying the best guitarist who ever lived THE GOAT STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN
