I used to work with youth at risk in Toledo and worked with the Gang task force in the 90s. Things haven’t changed or gotten worse. It’s Toledo Oh. Nothing ever changes. Things always stay the same with slight variations of what’s normal.

Part of the problem is that decent people not in gangs have been moving out, ditching Toledo.

Unless these kids are self determined, their is nothing in Toledo for them. They need good male role models, pushing counseling, trade school and youth centers. When humans are abused and neglected, they act out, that's human nature.

The problem with that map is that it has not shown the gangs on the South and East sides. They alwayd want to point to the Central City first so that when they reveal the other gains people feel they are not a part of the problem!

Childrens gangs. I lived on Baltimore on assignment. Like night and day compared to Toledo when comparing gangs. They are creating an identity because they don’t have one and it’s sad.

My parents REFUSE to buy one of the Cherry street Victorians because of this. They would completely redo one of them but the gang violence around the area keeps them from buying one and improving the area.

I just don't understand the meaning of gangs. Is there nothing else to do but cause khaos. Would it be possible to change the meaning to something good. Don't most people feel better doing good. Can't you be tough and still do good? Can we change gange to something good? Any suggestions what gang can stand for? To me, people choose gang because they have nothing else to do, nothing to stand for. Tough people are the ones who do good things when things seem bad!

I'm from N Michigan and I'll say I believe Toledo is headed in a positive direction. The city is so prime for distribution and logistics that it's inevitably going to continue to grow. The great lakes, railways, raw materials, major interstates...they all go thru Toledo. The gangs are there to distribute to regional partners. I imagine there are a good amount of bulk transactions and what not amongst those groups, in order to move product toward Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolos, Cleveland. The FBI and ATF are task forces that should be more wary of what's going on. People don't get killed over dime bags. That's big product coming up missing or people not getting paid. However...in grand scheme of things...The city will grow over next few decades by virtue of location, ports, Maumee River, Great lakes shipping, railways, logistics/distribution... So many jobs, it's actually a great place to go if you want to work hard 5 days a week and put $ in the bank. Oregon/Perrysburg/Maumee etc are the white flight areas...but downtown will see a resurgence with developers.

There are more than "37 gangs in Toledo", I've counted way more over the years. Toledo has over 100 gangs. I've made lists of local of gang names since a little kid and know more than most reporters & local cops. When the news and cops tell everyone "There is only 37" I get annoyed.

Lets settle this right now. Who is the toughest gang in Toledo?

Graduated in 74. Went to College out of the State and never returned to live. Toledo was "booming" back in the early 70's. Industrial environment was great. FORD, GMC, JEEP, CHRYSLER, MIDLAND ROSS, LOF, DUPONT, DEVILLBISS, CHAMPION, TOLEDO SCALE, LIBBEY OWENS, DOELER JARVIS, CRAFTMASTER...TOLEDO ROCKETS! You could walk around anytime, enjoy and not have to look over your shoulder! SO SAD! What a waste! The last couple of generations donot want to go to school. Gangs should be banned. In my hometown they had a problem with public housing. Police spent more time there and rest of the city becoming neglected so city council passed a law that ANYONE criminally arrested in public housing meant the entire family had to leave...they were evicted, no exceptions. At first a big stink over it but after awhile, the people there loved it. Crime went down to zero first time in 40 yrs.

Getting worse every year... Just keep doing what you're doing and expect different results. At this rate Toledo should look like mad max beyond thunderdome by 2030.... Add in"you'll own nothing and be happy" and no one will remember what it was like to walk down the street after dark without worry. If the new law allowing CCW without a card doesn't help I'm suggesting a well regulated militia to protect the city.
