I wish I would’ve took the time to really learn how to do this. But I’m different generation of beat making. Been FL since high school lol

The new school has more hardware to learn (and more complexity) than ever before! Don't force yourself into a box just because the majority starts 100% in the box. While this may be older gear, there's plenty of modern useability still hidden inside in this & more contemporary alternatives (like those from Elektron, Roland & Akai, Polyend, Sonicware & definitely the more experimental brands).
@freddykrooger6 ай бұрын
he uses a filter over two versions of the beat one to catch low end one for the high end and layers them, you could do that on fl n get a similar sound

@@goonfish I’m sure it is.. I’m older than u may think ijs by the time I got into beat making it was FL studio that I was introduced to it by and just stuck with it. I’ve eventually ventured off into Logic but ijs it took REAL TALENT to master those MPC’s and I wish I had the patience to learn it.

@@kingleo9981 Yeah I learned on the same thing, it's a good way to learn but I went the same way & switched to Ableton before I bought my first hardware. Both workflows teach you things that help the other from a general production standpoint, and at the end of the day most of the differences is comparing limitations and learning the unique way to get to the same end-goals!
@goonfish5 ай бұрын
@@kingleo9981 I'll definitely agree software is much more accessible though, especially from the beginning. But it can also be exponentially more complex than eve the most flagship hardware devices. All about your willingness to learn a manual & the limits of your creativity.

This “Poisonous Darts” off the Ghostface album. Could also pass for Eazy E’s “Only if you want it” So crazy I’ve watched 2 of your videos & in both, they showcase beats I’ve personally tried to recreate on my own but without the use of sampling of any kind. BPM, and patterns etc were easy but the actual sounds I’ve had 0 luck with
@Cats-Eye3 ай бұрын
neither of those songs sample "Hard to Handle". a couple of tracks which do actually use this sample are ODB's "Damage" and "Protect Ya Neck II the Zoo" as well as the original "Protect Ya Neck"

@@Nocsucal-BeatGod fr it's amazing what these guys achieved with a sampler and it blows my mind when you show the sections of the songs they originated from. Mobb deep shook ones video was crazy I had no idea... Love your vids man

@@AnarkistGaming for me the best vid was of Willie Mitchell Grooving RZA used sample from that 1 track & made 3 bangers ODB’s protect ya neck, GZA’s liquid swords & 4th Chamber. Sampling today is lazy asf. Everyone just pulls in loops and done. If I ever use samples it’s strictly for some vocals. But I’ll still warp them, make chops etc. But this type of sampling is dope. And you “have” to have an ear for it above all else

Can you translate this to a DAW cook up? 👀 lol
@BENWORKIN895 ай бұрын
Apply the same to the EQ on a DAW duplicate the track and then just level it till it sounds good together. Make sure to throw a limiter on the track that you filtered so the sounds don’t peak.
@BENWORKIN895 ай бұрын
If you’re using Ableton Live you can throw Drum Bus on your drums and just play around with that until you achieve the right “thump” you want for your drums. I’m taking a break from my DAW right now to take it back to the roots again by only using samplers however I’ll always apply my knowledge of the basics no matter what I use via trial and error. Good luck in your production adventures 🫡.

Does the XL do the same thing as the 2000 classic where if you layer two copies of the same sample there's a phasing issue? If so, do you just make do with it?
@Cats-Eye7 ай бұрын
yes it does. and as far as what I do, I just ignore it. that's all I can do
@BENWORKIN895 ай бұрын
I never had any phasing issues as long as I filter out the high end to make sure the “bottom” (the lows) bump. Or you can track the beat out into a DAW like Ableton Live and use the Drum Bus
@finkployd61105 ай бұрын
@@BENWORKIN89 Yeah, I've tried it several times in the past month, it sounds great. I can't notice the phasing, it just sounds like thick drums.

unfortunately the ASR-10 is at my dad's house and I won't be there until around Christmas. it also needs to be serviced because some keys don't work and the volume slider is messed up.
