The Project Q is an example of something that will likely fail due to its restrictions. Basically why buy something that only has one use, when instead you can go for something that has a primary purpose that also allows you to use it for other things. The steam deck is a good example of this since its primary use is obviously to play your steam games while on the go, but you can also access the linux desktop and run your own things, which you can also add to steam. Same for the Rog Ally, same for any android based emulation device. Controllers can be used on multiple systems as well so i don't mind the price they charge for them, the project Q will likely be quite expensive and likely still usable as a controller similar to the ps5 controller on pc and such, but it would be the dumbest controller you can use. 🙄

I use the official app and frankly it’s as good as playing local most of the time. I imagine Bob didn’t have his PS5 on an Ethernet cable. Because of that, Xbox does better on shaky connections but even on strong connections, it can still feel like you’re playing a 720p KZfaq video.

If this device becomes a PS+ premium streaming device, the pricing could actually be very competitive. Instead of treating it like an accessory, they could market it as an alternative platform and sell it at a loss. Instead of being a 300$+ price, they could sell it in the 100-200$ range. Then of course, they would be able to gain money on subscription sales and such. I doubt they'd do this, but you never know.

I've used Remote Play a ton. On a 5G connection in the suburbs on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, I get high quality streaming with only a small noticeable input delay. I wouldn't recommend playing R6 Siege in a moving bus or car, but if you sit down somewhere stationary and you happen to have a good 5G connection, Remote Play is rather seemless. Unfortunately my Intel mac has a really buggy WiFi adapter and it freaks out whenever a nearby Apple device is woken up, which causes issues while playing over LAN. This is a Mac or Apple-specific issue tho, it has something to do with the AWDL interface that Apple likes to use to talk to other devices which clouds the WLAN.

If steam deck and rog ally put top of the line screens in them, that would drive prices up to the point where most people, would say "yeah. That's cool. It depends. Sony can just as well create their own streaming technology for lower latency and higher bitrate, similar to WiiU. Or at least some low level optimization. Currently the low bitrate it’s really annoying even in great connections. Besides that the dualsense functionalities are also really important for native games.

Remote play works surprisingly well. I play it at my GFs place through wifi, in hotels across the world, even on the bus through cell data. On the bus the connection fades in and out. But in all other scenarios is almost perfect. And the backbone works and feels fantastic. There is a TINY delay. So I wouldn’t play twitchy games like COD. I use for it for RPGs like Wrath of the Righteous.

I tried remote play with my PS4 wired directly into my router from my desktop computer that was also wired to the router and just a few feet away and got a heavily compressed image with a horrible delay. I put Chiaki on my phone and laptop and can play anywhere in the house wirelessly with a barely noticeable delay and a picture almost as good as a screen connected directly to the PS4 via HDMI, plus I can use whatever controller I want

I just stream to my laptop or phone usually if i want to play in bed or something, but the main problem with remote play is no ability to throttle download speeds, i have gigabit internet and good wifi coverage though the whole house, but as soon as i want to download a game or update, remote play implodes. It's also annoying that the mic and all the video streaming apps don't work in remote play. Even at the best of times the bitrate on remote play seems shockingly low, it's about on par with game pass, which is crazy considering game pass is streaming from servers.

This would be the best streaming handheld on the market if it wasn't so limited. I don't really care what it looks like because it will be extremely comfortable to hold and has a great screen. As someone who almost always streams to avoid hogging the good TV, I would buy this in a second if it also worked with PC streaming.

Probably better off ditching the streaming and use the PlayStation games natively on the Steam Deck. Although admittedly I've heard The Last of Us has some issues, maybe even other playstation 'exclusive' games tol. Days Gone, Uncharted Collection, God if War are there on the Steam store I that as much.

So far I've found the PS remote app pretty bad with a lot of delay. As someone who plays both Xbox and PS via remote play and XCloud on a regular basis, it’s unfortunate that he has such a negative experience with PS remote play. I’m guessing he didn’t connect his PS5 to Ethernet and was on wifi. Xbox likes to drop quality to keep the stream going while PS likes to skip frames. Also: 1. PS remote play doesn’t require a code on official app 2. On same network or good wifi and the PS in Ethernet, PS remote works best. Almost the as good as local play. 3. Xbox works best on shaky internet since it’ll drop quality and not frames. But looks like playing a 480p video. Worse on same network + Ethernet because (I think) Xbox hits there servers even on same network. 4. Azure backend is irrelevant for remote play on PS since that’s not really used since there is no cloud servers with remote play. My internet can cut out on the same network and keep playing.

Mind you I’ve only played on my iPad Pro and with a generic HORI game pad on my own house set up, but I have found it SUPER-responsive and great for doing “a little thinking in my office with the porcelain chair. I’m very interested in the Backbone as most seem to really like it, and even though I’d probably be considered a PS Fanboy, the Q just feels like a “who is this for?” Situation. With everyone having a cell phone these days and $100 for a backbone with cheaper options, I don’t see this being needed unless they open up its capabilities.

Love how Sony really thought "Huh, you know the rising success of the Steam Deck, the insane popularity of the Switch, the belated spike of love for the Vita, and how they're dedicated handhelds? You also know our partnership with Backbone and our broken "remote play" features? Lets make a remote play only handheld to compete with the cheaper option that we decided to partner with, on our god awful remote play feature set that can't play any dedicated games"

Exactly this is overpriced for something you can already do using your phone. Like for real though what is Sony smoking. $300 for what is basically 2 dualsense halves glued to an I pad, not to mention it can't even play its own games it's streaming only. So you can't even play it on the go unless you have a wifi connection and a ps5 with you. What a dumb idea by sony

i think there will be something else they are not saying about the Q, in terms of hardware or even remote playing. I really dont think they will make this with remote play having issues which leads me to believe it either connects to a server or have something not mentioned yet. Besides all of the other available options dont have haptic feedback or the triggers, for me its a game changer and something that would sway me over. On the ps5 these features are epic.

For me it works really well. I work out of town every week and I only bring my Switch with me. But now I can play my PS5 games from anywhere!! I dont know what was wrong with your connectivity issues but for me it ran pretty smooth I use android and even during a Thunderstorm yesterday I had a pretty good experience I played games like Returnal, Spiderman PS4, and even FFXIV Online pretty well and my wifi isnt that great back home and it can be a toss up when I stay at Airbnbs or hotels. I leave my PS5 on rest mode so I dont have to turn it on constantly so maybe that helps with it turning off randomly or not turning on from the app. Project Q is a super weird choice for Playstation I agree especially when you have a phone which alos has touch controls from the app too! Theres many ways to play using Remote Play. Hopwfully that helps but yeaa sorry PS Remote play wasnt working well for you
