In this video, I will show full preservation of the German Waffen-SS Helmet M40 size 64 from the World War II. This helmet has been in the ground for 75 years. As a result of the restoration, the original paint and the color of the helmet were preserved.
No propaganda and extremism.Only history!
The demonstration of Nazi symbols in my videos is not propaganda of fascism, Nazism, etc. They are demonstrated exclusively for historical and scientific purposes.

Veeeeery dark humor here... as a German it’s even darker... Edit: One of my two great grandmothers had an older Brother serving in the Wehrmacht. He was in Russia. He was in those Battles were many soldiers deserted. Mostly the Families would get a so-called „Gefallenenbrief“ if the soldier would die in Combat, but as I says I think he deserted, and later became a part of the sixth division ore in other words the „Strafbatallion“ and maybe died of hunger, because the people that died in this battalion were mostly reported as missed, so the people wouldn’t think it was their one country who killed them. Another one in my Family went to the even worse KZ Dachau bc he was a communist. He barely survived.

This is a preservation.. to keep it from degrading any further... If the rust wasn't addressed it would continue to rust away... a complete restoration would have destroyed the history of this piece... great idea covering the original decal as so it wouldn't be lost during the chemical bath. Well Done.

Tip for the candle wax that you blew all over the helmet is absorbing parchment paper. Put it over the wax, then heat it. All the wax will stick to the paper. It`s the tecnique used on clothes and table cloths. I`ve also used it on wood tables.

In the end you can see a slight green finish in the paint, that's known as the shiefer grau (grey green) color . The paint was an oil based enamel with a heavy tropical lacquer and the medium grade aluminum oxide powder.

I often wonder about the last person to ever touch a given item before that item was lost. I watched a few of your bayonet videos recently and asked myself “if the previous owner could see this now, after being cleaned and restored, what would he say?” That was the question I asked while watching this video; and I think, given the results, he would say something along the lines of “well done”. Awesome work on a historical piece.

You can use baking soda to remove the yellow residue that appears if you left it sit to long in the oxalic acid bath. Scrub it with a brush and it will do a good job. All the best!

I wonder what happened to the original owner judging from the size of the hole through the skirt.

@@wwiituberestoration1011 do you make your own or but it? Also is it similar to rustoleum? Finally, is it safe on the original paint? Thanks!

A bit disturbing that there’s a large hole in the back of the helmet.

I know there’s a good chance that the previous owners of these items was probably killed in battle but I’d rather not know that somebody’s brains were splattered inside the shell of the helmet

KGB sure, if he was in the Wehrmacht, then maybe. But this is an SS helmet. You didn’t get into the SS if you weren’t a fanatic supporter of the Nazi cause. This guy 100% believed in what he was doing

Great restoration can you list the solutions used I would be interested to know because the original paint wasn't damaged.

About 100 grams of oxalic acid are dissolved in 10 liters of water. That 's the whole solution.

You skipped over the first soak was that also in the oxalic acid? Know how you got the SS sticker to come through? I have one in similar condition and would like to save the sticker if possible

So it is M40 manufactured by Quist (judging by the decal pattern). Did you find a stamped fabric number behing skirt? His period brother: warrelics.eu/forum/ss-helmet-forum/single-decal-ss-m40-quist-665646/

Great job restoring it. So glad you didn’t fix the damage. Imagine the history behind that helmet-what was the guy like? Was he a true believer or did he do it through duty? Was he just a guy or an evil war criminal?

It was more an unique helmet when it was original with the ss decal. This was a helmet that should not had te be restored. Original ss helmets are rare and precious than a restored one. So good work by not wrecking it wit new paint and repro decal.
