There’s one huge qualifier to the Damien Priest halfway reconciliation with Seth. Seth can challenge after Gunther @ Summerslam. To me that sounded pretty ominous.

Yeah, Punk's idea of consequences is over kill from what was done. Drew was talking smack, and never attack Punk or cost him the title. Punk, instead of just firing back he cost Drew the title 3x. Hell, he flew to Scotland to screw Drew at Clash at the Castle. Drew finally got his hands on him and threw Punk a much earned beating, and took his bracelet. So Punk cost him again at MITB, but this time screwed over Seth at the same time. Punk isn't looking like a hero here or a victim, I mean sure at first with Drew constantly bad mouth him. But Punk took it to another level, and in doing so became the bad guy in this. And man once Seth is done with Punk, Drew is gonna Claymore this dudes head off.

Luke, sorry for your troubles with The IWC, but I don't think that anything is actually ruined by Damian letting Seth off the hook. Seth STILL has every reason to hate what Punk did because it's not like Punk KNEW that Damian would drop the stip. Seth made it VERY clear that this latest beef is just a SYMPTOM of a much larger issue that he has long had with Punk. Thus DAMIAN'S ACTIONS CHANGE NOTHING and Seth and Punk are still heading for a "collision" because Seth is tired of Punk being the center of the universe. I'm pretty sure the writers see it that way as well. Try NOT to feel so deflated. This angle still cooks, imo.💯

While I do agree that Damian and Seth's segment kinda diminished the opening promo, it still is in line with Damian's character right now. We know he's upset he didn't win without anyone's help and wants to prove he can win fair and square and worthy of being a World Champion. Still doesn't excuse it from diminishing the opening promo between CM Punk and Seth, though...

Luke, you don’t seem to realize that the Damien priest set angle may take some drama away from punk, but it’s going to redirect it to the judgement day. The fragmentation of that group is going to escalate when they find out he just gave him another opportunity. And Seth, will always say punk, no matter what.

seth feels way less right to be upset now though. now instead of "can't challenge for the title for an undisclosed amount of time" his reason for being super mad is "lost one match". one of those is way better motivation than the other. the promo could have worked if it was like "if it was up to me i'd say we could ignore that stipulation but wwe won't allow it"

Damien could be like "if it was up to me I'd let you but..." you then get the respect from Damien and seth and don't undermine punk royally screwing seth over because he was too focused on drew

Priest is going to lose the championship, he is trying to show more of a face side by giving Seth an undisclosed date to challenge again. So at least by the time Priest faces Gunther, he can be more of the face against the heel when they clash at Summerslam

I have a sneaky suspicion that Seth will be shoehorned into the WHC match at Summerslam in a triple threat match. I wouldn't mind that, tho. Have Priest retain over Rollins, and give Gunther his big title win at Bash in Berlin. Then again, that probably won't happen if they do a three-way for the IC title at SS, which seems likelier now.

There is a little more to WWE’s comment of “ Who wouldn’t” regarding wanting to sign Joe Hendry, it’s actually a dig at Tony Khan. When Tony bought ROH Joe Hendry had been part of their roster, and Tony chose not to sign him. This fun bit of history, paired with the numbers the KZfaq clip of Hendry’s NXT appearance are doing are too tasty for WWE to pass up.

I was at the show and I had learned something interesting. The crowd was hot all night but when I looked at the broadcast after, WWE had the crowd noise turned down to almost nothing while we were chanting. A good example is during the Sami/Bron segment when Bron is speaking. We were all doing the "Ole" chant to the point it drowned Bron out in the arena but WWE turned it down so you could hear him speaking still.

Luke, I’m not sure if you read these comments or not, but in my head cannon, Priest saying Rollins could challenge for the title again makes sense. Priest seems like he is on a journey of self justification, and every one of his high profile victories have come from some level of shenanigans. When he pinned Drew at MITB, there almost seemed like there was a look on his face that suggested he wasn’t happy with getting the victory this way (with Punk interfering). He wants to be able to do it by himself, which is why he fights the Judgment Day about helping him. So, I’m saying, Rollins can challenge anytime was him admitting to himself that he wasn’t happy with how his victory occurred. It also allows Seth to be honorable in his word as well. Priest is setting up for a singles run as a face, and Seth can either stay a face or be a heel with that single offer from Priest.

I think Priest giving Seth a shot was more for him to prove himself as a great champion since his victory over Seth was not a clean one. I don’t think it’s going to get that far since Priest may be having his run end at SummerSlam at the hands of Gunther.

Youre saying that the whole reason Seth is mad at Punk is because he can't challenge for it anymore and that the later promo killed it, but Punk still caused Seth the title. He still screwed Seth. And regardless of the fact that Seth has another chance, Punk was still a MASSIVE douche about it and reignited the anomosity between them. And while it cooled it off, it shifted that energy to Damian and his eventual face turn, which is needed. Seth and Punk will happen and we'll all watch. Damians face turn and the fall of JD could use the story beats. You're being far too hard on it. When Damian said that i was like "oh that was a cool thing to do, nice." But i also wasnt taking notes and watching it to review on my channel. I was just watching it to have fun.

Didn't Priest say Seth could challenge for the title after his defense at Summerslam? This is to assume Priest is going to win at SummerSlam against Gunther.

I will say.... just because Seth can challenge for the belt again doesnt mean he can't still be mad at Punk for constantly getting involved. He never had beef with Priest outside of the title stuff, and if Priest is supposed to be turning face, this is the kind of thing that makes sense, since even Priest is aware that people keep getting involved in his business.

Okay, but hear me out. Damian Priest has been trying since day one to show he is THE guy. Due to the ref botch, Rollins won. Rollins knows it, Priest knows it. Priest knows that without Mcintyre and Punk, he lost the world title at MITB. He WANTS Rollins to challenge him again, so he can win clean. If they play it right, the angle of him letting Rollins challenge again works far more than he's getting credit for, for his character.
