Faction: The Bulgarian Army
The First World War
After the Balkan wars from 1912 -1913, the size of the Bulgarian Army was increased.
When war erupted in Europe in August 1914, Bulgaria declared neutrality, after the memory and exhaustion of the Balkan wars.
Many saw it as an opportunity to reverse the disastrous territory losses after the Treaty of Bucharest of 1913. While Tsar Ferdinand and Prime Minister Vasil Radoslavov favoured the central powers, many Bulgarians held pro- Russian sentiments.

Not more than 1/6 of the 1.2 million were bulgarians from the Macedonian region. Much more were the ones coming from the current territory of Bulgaria and the parts of the Thracian region which now belong to Turkey - near Edirne and Lozengrad - a lot of people there still speak bulgarian.

Correct. Practically every male person, aged 18 (in fact often even 16 or as young as posssilbe to cheat for their age) and up. Therefore the food shortages, trough - only women and kids were left to produce goods (including food). Well.... that war had been expected to be really short, but it did not happen that way.

While the Ottoman was fighting the Entente in the Middle East, it was fighting the Russian Empire in the Caucasus. At least it prevented Britain from establishing a gateway between Egypt and India.Austria was at war with Italy, at war with the Russians and in the Balkans, these are big states, it's absurd to compare them with a small state.Noble families ruled these states and their lineage dates back to 1000 years.

I dont know why but meanwhile at Westernfront, British and French, combination of two great powers cannot even breakthrough a portion of german strength. As I read through the comments, I can see that a lot of people ask you to make a video for their armies. This is a huge respect to our country man. I would like to thank you for acknowledging the heroism and the sacrifice of our soldiers that have fought for the unification of Bulgaria. With this comment, I would like to mention also the several battles of Doiran, which have been happening between 1916-1918. During this period, the soldiers, commanded by general Vladimir Vazov have destroyed the unified Antanta troops several times. The last battle takes place on 18-19 September 1918 with a significant advantage for the Antanta armies (7:1). Bulgarians win the battle and thus save our land from being occupied by the surrounding countries. (we could have had the same fate as Turkey).

Serbia couldn't care less about the Bulgarian land, the proclaimed war goal was to liberate Slavic peoples of Austria-Hungary. Also, the terrain was very favorable for the Bulgarian army as it was occupying the high positions and defending downwards, and also the fact that the Albanian retreat of the Serbian army left it in shambles and decimated, but the Serbs still overwhelmingly broke the Thessaloniki front and managed to return to their homeland.

Very important clarification, information that is missing in the video. In those years Northern Greece and Eastern Serbia, which were conquered by the Bulgarian army were territories in which the Bulgarian population was the majority for centuries. The Bulgarian population in these lands was subjected to forced assimilation by the Greek and Serbian states. This led to the Bulgarian intervention in the war. To a large extent, Bulgaria was waging a national liberation war.

Austrio-Hungarian leader was refusing to follow the military tactics of Germany. And didn't listen to their tips.Once they started losing to the Russians they wanted help. And barely even listened to the German military tactics at all.Attacking Serbia was their idea.Germany asked Bulgaria to join and promised the modern day country FYROM and that they will split up whatever it's left from Serbia.Bulgarians accepted to join. And had 1,2 million men on Serbia.Bulgaria did listen to the German's tactics and they were successful. With Germany,Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria's 1,2 million men ended Serbia pretty quick. Then they had to go hide in Albanian territories and Albania accepted(WHICH SERBS DONT EVEN KNOW ABOUT)But even then Austria-Hungary chased them down killing 25% of it's population something like that.

Hey Simple, I love your videos there amazing and I've learnt so much! However, I feel sometimes you regurgitate to much information at once and I feel I can give you a suggestion that may help your content become even better. Maybe, you can tell separate stories of there battles for example make totally different videos on the battles, and on the factions videos go more into depth of how they were trained, what weapons they used and fight tactics. I would really love to see that happening! Just some constructive criticism from a loyal viewer. I love your videos Simple History keep it up!
