@JonesNate I mean, real life WWI planes did some pretty insane acrobatics, if we are to believe WWI pilot diaries.

Stall speed and glide ratio are first things I look at. Next, find a copy of Theory and Practice of Aeroplane Design (1920). PDF is available online if you look for it. Finally, the Aerodrome Forum are a good resource for replica builders.

Cue the TikTok audio "You think you're the coolest guy in the parking lot and then this guy shows up," and then you land your scarlet Fokker DR1 and taxi to a stop. I have visions of hordes of lovely ladies throwing themselves at me as I climb out of my Red Baron machine, but I'm sure it would just be a bunch of pilot dudes drooling on my fabric wings and getting in the way of me going to get a burger.

Imagine some airliner having to hold short for a gigachad in this thing to land before him
@sdsorrentino
@sdsorrentino 10 ай бұрын
@@lipslide101 “if you look out the right side of the aircraft you will see Baron Manfred von Richthofen and his bright red triplane. Look at that Fokker just poking along the taxiway. That Fokker is why we haven’t departed yet. The tower called and ordered me to hold short and allow the Fokker to taxi past us. Some people would say that it’s just a replica, but I think he’s a real Fokker and if I thought I could get away with it I’d run up my engines and blow that Fokker clear across the runway. Where’s Snoopy when you need him?”
@howesfull8
@howesfull8 5 ай бұрын
@@lipslide101 The airline pilots (who have the best view here) would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to hold short for a couple of minutes to watch an old (replica) biplane land....it would break up a long hard boring day. I guarantee that cameras would be out....

@JonesNate

@@leftcoaster67Or just put them out on the wings. I know, I know, not WWI-accurate, but still better than having paint splattered everywhere, or worse yet, a harder paintball suddenly turning the airplane into a glider.

I found scale drawings of a Spandau online and built one for my Fokker D7. Originally they had 2 side by side, but I initially installed one to the right of center so as to not block as much view in left hand patterns. My thinking was I could always add another next to it if I wanted more authenticity. So far I am satisfied with just the one, and I get a lot of comments about it. Just used 2x6 and PVC that I drilled holes in. Looks very real

Yeah, I am looking very hard at a Nieuport 28. My Grandfather was in the US Army Air Service during WW1. He served in France. I used to have a picture of him with his Nieuport 28. After the war he came back to the US. He stayed in the Army, the Air Service became the US Army Air Corps.

These buggers have no Albatross D.III / D.V OR Pflaz D.III series... the most sleek WWI designs left out (maybe because they could not find a inline 6??!!).😭😭😭 And not even a R.A.F. S.E.5a... 😪 A canvas biplane, the German Platzer Kiebitz should be review too. It's soo cool with a Verner radial (from the country of cool beer hot chicks, the Czech Republic😁) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platzer_Kiebitz en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verner_Motor

A very good video...! Yes, but flying one of these is not for the faint of heart.... the WING LOADING is not much more than a Kite... 6lbs - 8lbs... So, in ANY kind of wind prepare for Mr. Toad's wild ride ! If you're not a dyed in the wool tail dragger pilot, forget building the Fokker Dr-1... That said.... I'm waiting for Robert Baslee to offer a Spad 7 kit, and I'm off to visit the factory !! Thanks again for the fair, unbiased opinion...!

@CompleteWalkaround
@CompleteWalkaround 10 ай бұрын
Hypothetical yes. There are 3rd party build assist programs available. You must build 51% but not with your own hands per say. It's a bit grey. The manufacturer can't build more than 49% for sure. The other 51% is a bit fuzzy in my experience.
