There should be surveillance cameras all the time to know if anyone is being abused. Family should keep in checking their loved ones.

If one can afford to pay a facility four grand a month, then one can afford to hire in home care. Some of it is also negligence on the family's part, all bc they do not want to care for family members at home. It's an inconvenience.

If you don't have the patience to care for the elderly stay out of that field. That's someone mom, dad, son, daughter, brother or sister. For $4000 a month , they could have kept him home for less then that . But some families just don't want to be bothered ! Yes , Alzheimers patients can be very hard to take care of , but you do what you have to do to make sure they are safe and well cared for . We took care of my mother for 10 years with Alzheimers. And let me tell you , she was a horrible piece of work!!!! WHEW ! But we did it until she passed . Families , take care of your loved ones at home at all costs. 🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐

4K a month will not come close to providing 24/7 care 7 days a week in the home for a mentally ill elder patient. I paid 2/3 of my check for a live in caregiver 4 days a week while I worked my professional job in 1996. I am college educated & saved my money to help her. My mother was bedridden & terminal but not mentally ill or combative. I would never have been able to provide round the clock care for my mother if she had Alzheimers.

St Mary's in scs, MI had staff drinking on the clock. They were reported and still had a job. Always short staffed. Then when the state comes in the nursing home cleans and add extra staff until the state leaves.

Of course the owners, CEO, President, VP directors all make huge salaries but it's too bad caregivers of these facilities make bottom minimum wage pay. No wonder there's a staffing shortage and high turnover. Who wants to break their backs working for these communities? I don't trust that owner who is being interviewed either. He lies through his teeth! 😡

My mother was admitted into a nursing home after a stroke due to diabetes. She was there for 6 1/2 months and I was there everyday from 5 to 7 hours (lunch and dinner time). I did not trust the care of my beloved mother to others. People need to check more often on their loved ones, take notice and make complaints.

Not all assistant living/Nursing homes are bad. I work in one and plan on opening my own in 2 months. I work at a private nursing home where each patient gets the same 2 nurses everyday. We treat people like humans and we are specialized to our patient. I specifically work with a woman who has dementia and heart problems. We have never got complaints.

These things happen in every nursing home. If you've tried to wipe poop and pee off of someone you will know this can be done cleanly or not so clean. It takes a long time to make it clean. But most nurses don't have the time. What happens when that area is not cleaned well for days? Think about it. This is just one example. Keep your loved one at home is the best advise.

I've wanted that but they claim no, bc of HIPAA laws. I say that's bs bc I'm paying a high price for that bed. If I allow it than HIPAA shouldn't apply. Photos and videos are done every day, such as courtrooms, police departments, doctors etc and the internet is loaded with them all. But when it comes down to 'us' protecting 'ourselves' we're told NO, not allowed 😡.
@skittles33102 жыл бұрын
@@someonewhoknows1000 Ya it's legal in some states and other states still have it illegal. I think we should all be trying to get our states to change the laws and allow us to record private rooms and the nursing homes should all have their own cameras installed for security. This problem is worse than anything anyone could do with the videos.

As a Caregiver I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. The one subject caregivers complain about is the ration of patent versus caregiver. Every state is different as they there is a minimum staff allowed per state. So for example a 100 bed facility only has per their state law on day shift 1 caregiver per 10-12 patients or more. When they recieve enough to hire more staff per state law requirements, smh. But they refuse to do so and these facilities are being built daily all over the world.

ALL of us will likely end up in a care facility, or home, or having a nurse come to our homes at the end of our lives. the only way you dont share this experience, is if you die before it happens, so this is something , like it or not we all will face.

town of luck the retirement centers especially if they are owned by private owner and they have a management company working for them and they're working on a sliding scale as far as your rent of those managers they will rob they will get at you a checking account they bribe you and half of the people need to be in assisted living or nursing home it is f***** up and it is heartbreaking.

If someone has severe dementia they shouldn't be an assistant living they should be placed in a skilled nursing facility. Assisted living is not a medical facility it's a retirement community.

I agree. My last job as a server at a alf, would accept clients with intense need of memory care. Most care givers were barely 19 and had little experience with elderly care let alone dementia or Alzheimer's. Some nights were violent against staff, there were no doctors, management or anyone to help the young staff. Not fair for staff or residents.
