Interesante, magistral e inspiracional interpretación del clásico espiritual. Lo que ocurre a partir del 6:38 es, simplemente, la extensión del alma de los interpretes. Celebrable!

I love the drummer too, everyone in the band was with him!
So happy to see Eric was getting baptized into the joy the Lord has blessed America with. But, its not America. Its the Lord's blessings upon her that makes America great! We need more faithful ones to get entrenched into good Bible teaching. Not the flooky stuff that gets passed around the table too often today. Solid meat and bread and good, real, organic wine. God will bless America. Make Bible teaching Great again? God will make America great again in return!

I bet that Clapton considers this performance one of the tops in his career. Not being his main style, it must have fulfilled his aspirations of playing black music, the very reason he became a pro. I can see him thinking "look at me surrounded by 7 black jazz musicians. This is it, I made it."
@murph30013 жыл бұрын
I totally agree 1000 times ___ I saw the same thing. I think however rather than playing with black musicians he is in awe of playing with an all star team. ___ his smile at the end says it all ____ wonderful moment ___

There's a certain validity to your point. I 'made it' in 1965 when I wandered into the Continental Club in 3rd ward in Houston and met Spookey Dancye (Hammond B-3) Ronald Wynn (drums) and Horace Grigsby(vocals.) I worked with those guys, and a good many other notable Houston black musicians until 1968. After the MLK assassination, I found The Old Quarter in downtown Houston and started doing solo gigs there. I did tunes like 'Work Song' and 'God Bless the Child,' which the mostly white clientele had never heard. Still, I never felt like I had 'made it.' I was just a playing bum trying to supplement my meager day gig pay (In 1965, my salary as a first-year teacher was $4590, but everyone knew that the pay scale was set up for women whose husbands worked at Exxon or the like.) I remember those days, and I'm thankful to those black musicians for helping me, mainly by being tolerant and kind.

But it's not a great version. Too slow and not the normal style of Winton Marshal's.
@aliciaarroyo58459 ай бұрын
It’s supposed to be played slow at the beginning (this being the traditional style of New Orleans funeral procession), and after the drum 🥁 solo it picks up. It symbolizes the sorrow of losing a loved one to a celebratory ending knowing that that loved one is no longer in pain but in the arms of Jesus. 🎉 perfect interpretation of this old hymn
@fredwalton85922 жыл бұрын
Every time I play this 'my soul is refreshed'. The drum solo is outstanding.
@robertpinsler1381 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The drum solo is amazing . Instead of just banging out a loud show-off type of drumming, he skillfully transitions the gospel classic from its slow "piano" beginning to the "allegro" quick dixie style uplifting finale. Bravo.

I also lived like this ... but then I became aware that this path is not about "doing to reach", but about trusting in His Grace to celebrate life. It's about Grace, not about doing. It's about Peace in the soul, not about religious stress. It is about the Love of God acting in my life, not about my loving attempts to God. Before "I did to achieve it", now "I do it because He has already achieved it". Have faith, Jesus loves you.
