At only $20, the #WyzeCam is about one tenth of the price of some of its competitors. It’s an indoor camera with 1080p HD, eight times optical zoom, and a field of view of 110 degrees. While the viewing angle is a bit more narrow than I like, otherwise, I’m impressed with the Wyze Cam’s video display. It also has awesome infrared night vision and two-way audio.
Storage-wise, the Wyze Cam knocks it out of the park. It offers local storage through a USB port and 14 days of free cloud storage. Keep in mind that some companies charge a dollar a day for cloud storage, so this is incredibly generous on top of the low price. I also love that the camera integrates with both Amazon Alexa and IFTTT, so you’ll be able to use vocal commands and create convenient home automations. Although the Wyze Cam lacks person detection or facial recognition, it does have smart sound recognition for your smoke and C.O alarms. Pretty impressive for $20!

Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.

@QE ornotQE wires and you can get extensions on Amazon for cheap! Very good cameras! I've had them for over a year. I have have six of them two of the v2's and three pan cams. Best security cameras I've ever owned!

I really like this review. We bought our Wyze Cams a little over a month ago. I do not believe that you touched on my favorite feature, that is the Shortcuts you can create. My wife and I have three different shortcuts we set up depending on if anyone is at home and what time it is. All you have to do is open the app, touch the shortcut and it does what you told it to do in the shortcut. I do wish there was an easy way to do geofencing based on both of our phone locations, but I could not find an easy way on IFTTT. But the shortcuts really help with that. We put the app on her phone and we are good. One thing I like is a feature with the microSD card. You can set it up to record continuously for record on the card when there is an event that happens. It can hold 2 days of continuous recording in HD or seven days in SD. I also heard that they are looking to release a product where you can have the recorded videos sent to your own external hard drive and then you can store as many videos as you want for as long as you want. Thank You!! This is the answer to my needs. I am disabled and need longer recordings than other little cameras provide. Sadly, I need to record activities of care givers without recording sound. (it's not legal here) Local storage is great for my limited budget, scheduling recordings is essential, and it is a bonus that I can share access to others if needed. FYI, livestream is not the most important to me. I will not use this option. A future video for nanny cam or granny cam users would be great. Thanks again for walking through every detail including the software! Best ever review!!

Nice cams. I have 3 now and have ordered another one. They are just what I was looking for and the added bonus is the push alerts and the set time when they are active or "All day" active if away. Easy setup as you said and what a deal for $20. Get video and easy to follow.

If you put your Wyze Cam under an over hang then it should do good outside as long and there are no leaks anywhere. Another option is to look for an outdoor housing and bracket for the Wyze Cam. (Security.org already did a review on it.)

Excellent review! Thank you. I got two of these on a leap of faith, and I am happy as a clam with them. I will say that I subsequently purchased 32G micro SD cards so I could have local storage. I get four full days full time recording at 1080p. I think that the micro sd card is a must have. We just came back from a trip to the US, and my sister -in-law was so sold by my description of my experience that she bought two from Home Depot. And to my surprise, they sell the cameras with the 32G card included for $34 each.

I just ordered one on amazon I can’t wait to get it in tomorrow and play around with it. I’m planning on mounting it in my snake enclosure so I can monitor her while I’m away from home. If I’m happy with how it works and looks I’ll be getting more to install in some of my other reptile enclosures.

Very nice features! Very cheap! Cons: no battery option, no outdoor use (no IP classification). No use for my outdoor needs around my house, have rain and in winter snow. This is why I switched to Blink XT and soon the XT2. Full 2 yr use on Lithium AA batteries. No drilling through the brick walls for complicated power cables.

You can use it outside, they have a weather protector thing for $11. I saw a guy on KZfaq put it through a water test and it still worked fine.

The best latest option is grouping. You are now able to see live multiple cam streams instead of clicking one at a time.

Awesome in-depth review on the Wyze cam. Really appreciate the quality of detail here. Just want to add that since this video, Wyze has continued to upgrade their cameras. They now have person recognition AI as a free addon, RTSP, optional night vision without the IR LEDs being on and a more robust scheduling tool in the app. Their continued improvements and support are why I am purchasing the Wyze cam.

What about installing cameras outside, like to the top of your garage or a corner of your house? Would they need to be hardwired? How would that work? Otherwise, great vid...sounds like the sort of system I'm looking for.

Some outdoor cameras are hardwired, some are battery powered. It depends if you have outdoor outlets or not. Does the Wyze cam offer me a notification schedule ? I would like to be notified of motion during the day but don't want to be woke up all night long with the dogs walking around yet still record the motion at night

watched almost all of this, scanned a few sections: couldn't see any reference to how it's connected to power, or what's in the box. Apparently there's some USB involved, but is a 110 adapter included? How long is the cable? ...? Other than that, thanks for all the info

Can this camera be set up to record to my own cloud and be notified on my phone. In other words, i dont want my home recording being stored outside of my own network, i dont like possibly someone else viewing my stuff.

Do you know what's the max micro SD card capacity? I know on the official Wyze cam website, it says up to 32gb, but I want to know what's the max. Also, for continuous video recording [with micro SD card inserted], is it true that old videos taken on the camera gets replaced with new videos after the camera runs out of space? And when this happens, does it replace everything or just a few? Lastly, does the camera allow you to access the files via WiFi or mobile in any way without having to pay a fee [if so, how much would it cost and can you access those files via WiFi from the micro SD card itself, rather than using cloud storage] or subscription?

Hi Johnny, Let me get back to you about the max card capacity- I've seen people use 64 GB and be fine, but I want to double check myself. Yes, for continuous recording it will start to overwrite footage if there's no more space- it won't replace everything at once, just the amount of time that it's recording. Easy to setup but after running for a few days the camera motion detector stops working and bridge disconnects from most motion sensors and door contacts. I setup a daily restart schedule to restart each camera. This fixes camera motion detector problem but bridge may not reconnect to sensors after a reset. I don't recommend for security.

Can't seem to be able to purchase the Wyze Sensors separately here in Canada unless you purchase the starter kit which includes the Wyze Cam. I just purchased 3 of the Wyze Cam Pan's so not interested in buying another just to get 2 door sensors. Also, doesn't appear that the security systems includes an alarm or siren. Any recommendations?

Own two of the Wyze pan cameras and one of the fixed. They have been great, two rotating ones are mounted outdoors with cover and the fixed is mounted indoors. A few minor issues with pan and track with the latest firmware, the camera seems to track too fast and gets jumpy. I believe I will be replacing the outdoor pan version with the fixed version to assure all activity in selected field is captured. Very happy for the price and love the fact they have free 2 weeks of online storage. One is mounted on the garage which is 50-65 yards from the house, no issue with the strength of wifi at all. This June they did do a fairly big update to the software installed on phone with more new features. Looking forward to the next firmware update. The pan is cool but value for the buck the fixed camera from Wyze rocks, especially when coupled with outdoor case and mount.

Hi, nice video, I saw that this cam took like 15 seconds to get a motion alert, I am considering the ring stick cam because it send alerts in 3 seconds +-, do you recommend this cam over the ring ?

Hi, I would do the Wyze Cam. It's better for video, night vision, storage, smart platform integrations, plus it has person detection and is 1/5 of the price. The delay is going to depend largely on your Internet connection, but also the Wyze Cam is plug-in, meaning there's less strain on the battery. Hey Security! I've been looking at this as a nanny cam, what happens if the power goes out? Does it keep recording and then upload afterwards or does it just shut off and have to restart?

The Wyze Cam v2 is wired power only, no battery. So of the power goes out, the camera goes out too. I believe Wyze may not implement an internal battery unless Xiaomi (aka. Mi) implements it. Because Wyze buys the cameras from Mi, flashes custom firmware, and sells them in the western marked while Mi sells the off the line versions in the eastern market. So Xiaomi would have to implement it first. Another option is to use a portable battery pack. You are welcome for the comment.

Hi David, I would recommend the Wyze Cam. It's about $10 less, has free local and cloud storage for 14 days, whereas that would cost $9.99 a month with Yi, plus, it has integrations with Amazon Alexa and IFTTT, which allows for hands-free commands. And can you turn these off if you wanted too? Like, say turn the cams off during the day when you’re home, and turn them back on at night when you’re gone or sleeping? I’m asking because my mom recently had someone break into her home at night while she was sleeping, and now she wants a camera.... but she’s skeptical of getting one because of the potential for people hacking into the cam and watching her (she watches too much CSI 😆) anyways, it would ease her mind if she could disable the camera during the times she’s home lol

I recently ordered this camera and while it is a decent camera for the price, I have one major issue with it. It stops recording after 12 seconds even if there is still movement in the room.

Questions: I have an android phone and an AT&T internet home network. Is there app availability and security? Does this expose my network to intruders? Will my internal lighting (on timers) or oscillating fans trigger events?

No one got to you, so I am. 1) it will work with your network so long as you have the name of the wifi network, and the password on hand. 2) Yes, I use an Android phone, and the app is very responsive and nice. 3) I am not sure as to the security of this device and whether or not it exposes you to the internet. I am guessing not, considering it authenticates Everytime you open the live feed. 4) You can fine tune the sensitivity of the detection notifications, so it will need a big change in the detection to send a notification. They also recently added a "Person" mode, that will detect people instead of just any movement, works really well.

With the security: Wyze has a good history with security and handling events. They authenticate and use end-to-end encryption for their services and they were hacked approximately 5-8 months ago. (Nothing significant was leaked) and Wyze instantly within a few days revoked and issued new authentication codes and kept their users up to date with info.

Yes, it's the most affordable security camera I've reviewed. It has Alexa integration but you don't have to use that feature if you don't want to. Gabe - my home in the woods has no internet service. My needs/wants are: 1. Small concealable security device. 2. With no Internet Service available, Record video to local SD during motion detection. 3. Both Indoor/Outdoor options would be nice. 4. Both AC/DC power options would be nice. I know the Wyze camera is Indoor only and only AC powered. Can I setup the Wyze camera with my cell phone where there is an internet connection, relocate the camera to my home in the woods that has no internet service, plug it into the AC outlet and have the camera set to record video to the local SD card during motion detection, remove the SD card to view captured video on a laptop? If not, what are your camera recommendations based on my Needs/Wants criteria? Thanks! Allen

Is it true it has 5 mins cool down between events? Is the max event recording is 12 seconds? Even with local storage? How is the connectivity? Did you face any issues with wifi range etc?

Yep, there's a 5 minute cool down period between cloud recordings. Cloud recordings are generally 12 seconds, but if you're recording locally it'll go until the event is finished. HI Ky, Gabe here. I have not seen anything about them integrating so I would not count on them integrating it. When it comes to super affordable cameras, Amazon Alexa has more available than Google Assistant right now. I am going to create a spreadsheet that has smart platform integration lists for each camera that we have reviewed soon. In the meantime, Canary View is the most affordable with Google and second most affordable is Canary All-in-One. Hope that's helpful

Now it has person detection, so when the camera detects a person, it will record it and notify you. I recommend using the person detection, but you can also have the camera record when it detects motion of any kind. You can also set up continuous recording if you want. Hi Tony, yes, the infrared light will reflect off the window. One option is to use black tape to cover the LED lights, but then you won't have night vision. Mochi65 yes, a micro usb power cord is included with each camera and I’m pretty sure it’s 6’ long. There is also a magnetic mount with mounting sticker for the wyze cam v2 and a base ready to receive tripod style mount on Wyze cam pan. I’m happy with both versions.

Hi, The main difference is that the Wyze Cam Pan can spin all the way around and the Wyze Cam cannot. Aside from that, they both have 1080p HD video, 8x zoom, infrared night vision (although the Pan's is better), free local and cloud storage for 14 days, integrations with Alexa and IFTTT plus smart sound recognition for smoke/ CO alarms. The Wyze Cam Pan has a wider field of view of 120 degrees compared to 110 with the Wyze Cam, and it costs about $10 more. Security Baron I am not sure which one I will purchase but it will be a Wyze. Does the Cam Pan make noise when it is spinning around and can I turn the spinning part off while at home ? I have been reading reviews where some reviewers are saying it’s a lot of kinks that need to fix with Cam Pan.
