Yep...which is where X-Men in general started going to shit. I mean, it's not as if the X-Men were telling stories on great literature scale at that point in their history - but at least they were somewhat grounded. Phoenix was the arc in which fanfiction writers realize they can be hired to write stories for comics and shit on any kind of continuity. In fact, I'd even venture to say that the Phoenix storyline was when the concept of "No perm-death in comic" really started to take hold!

I know this comment is 4 years old and although I agree with most things you said, Mystique having Psylocke's powers is probably the dumbest thing you have said so far. Even someone who doesn't read comic books knows that Mystique gets some mutant powers and abilities when she shape shifts into another mutant. In first X Men movie Mystique got Wolverine's claws when she changed her appearance into Wolverine.

The main problem is that Havok was noticeably absent in most of the posters, and he was only seen in the trailers, saying stuff like "I got that (Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) from the Bible". Then when you glance through the posters, you would most prob go, "Ok I see Cyclops, but where's Havok? Pls dont tell me..."

Basically magneto had a brief moment of peace, much like in the movies, where he met a woman named Magda, had a daughter about the same age as the girl in ap[Apocalypse. Then he exposed his powers trying to help a fellow villager, they freaked out burning his house with his daughter in it. Magneto went nuclear slaughtering the entire village, and Magda who was pregnant at the time ran away from him. It wasn't until much later that he found out quicksilver and scarlet witch were his kids, and by that time he had already burned that bridge and pissed on the ashes by forcing them to join his brother hood. I suspect the movie was trying to weave a little bit of that backstory in as well.

Younger sister seen in DoFP is Polaris. Scarlet Witch is Quicksilver's TWIN. It was mentioned in DoFP that she was upstairs in her room.

Brittani Chesterfield Polaris was never magneto's daughter. At one point Magneto found her with amnesia claimed she was his daughter in order to fuck with her head, but it was quickly proven false.

There are some good individual scenes in the movie, but none of them coalesce. And the dialogue was so, so cliche--I LOVE Fassbender and McAvoy as Magneto/Xavier, and even their scenes were just so stale due to the dialogue (good performances, though). God, PLEASE FIRE SIMON KINBERG! He's written 3 X-men movies and two are duds. How can this guy continue getting work???

I think the other problem that critics had with it was that there was no character development for anyone, and the ending was pretty meh in terms on plot, action wise amazing, story wise it was kind of a cop out. This whole movie felt like something that needed a couple movies of build up, but they spent the last two movies trying to fix everything and reboot the series, so when they got to this one they had to tell a story with a tonne of characters all in one movie when realisitically this was at least a two movie job to really flesh everything out.

I enjoyed the movie but I can completely see why it's kind of a dud critically. A bunch of underdeveloped characters (psylock, angel, moira, even storms motives are pretty shallow), some unexplained plot holes (e.g. a villain who can turn his enemy's to dust but doesn't), some pacing issues, and a couple shoe horned in fan service scenes i dont feel really added to the STORY. I think brushing it off as "critics being fatigued" is a bit of a cop out. There were a lot of things to be critical of.

I did not mean this film was perfect, I agree some characters were underwhelming particularly Psyloche and Angel who where used like plot devices rather than characters. In my opinion, you cannot have 15 mutants in a movie and treat them all as central characters, even books can't do that. I completely agree that the final battle against apocalypse was kind of meh, and could have been more exciting, but some EPIC scale stuff happened there invloving Jean and also Charles which maybe redeemed it for me. For me, since the beginning of this reset timeline trilogy, I consider this franchise being focused on Charles and Erik, and those two actors deliver, they really make it worthwhile... their story arcs are extermely well done, and we can see them subtly move towards who they were in 2000's Xmen. Just for those two, I buy!

I think it's pretty cohesive for the story. More characterization for the young X-Men, getting the plane to get Xavier not to mention puting a closure to Wolverine plus linked to the after credit

That joke doesn't even make much sense considering when this movie takes place. At the time, we didnt really have a lot of series where the 3rd movie was the worst. Movies like Alien 3, Spiderman 3, Terminator 3, etc. had not happened yet. We had Jaws 3 but that was about it.
