@@CrniWuk But it's not a genocide. Those are Naval vessels, operated by trained members of a state's official military. Blowing them up is a show of force, but not 'the intentional destruction of a people, in whole or in part'. Hell, it's not even against the rules of war. The brilliance of this film is that you see a villain's origins and completely understand him as a multi-dimensional antagonist, even without knowledge of the comics. It's simply a great story, well told. The franchise missed a trick by not developing this further with a second film; it certainly had layers to develop. That's not to say the second instalment wasn't a good film. I just felt it was a great leap in both Xavier's and Erik's story arch, and the whole time travelling thing would've had even more bang had both further cemented their differences. Just an opinion btw. I still think it lives up to the great cartoon series until the final film.

Charles is arguably the smartest of them all and yet he’s the one who says the *WORST* possible thing one can say to a person who has suffered persecution and witnessed genocide first hand carried by people who justify it as simply “following orders” while taking pride and pleasure in it and avoiding justice at all cost! He honestly thought Erik would relent after giving that justification?

Jajaja. Es un caso clasico de como la desesperación puede anular tu raciocinio. Charles simplemente intentaba dar cualquier motivo para evitar que Erik cometa una masacre. Also, because Erik was wearing the helmet that blocks Charles’s powers, Charles was left with only words to dissuade Erik from making that choice. Without the helmet, I’m sure Charles would have been able to affect the outcome.
@wafflingmean4477
@wafflingmean4477 2 ай бұрын
It's scenes like this that give so much context to Erik decades from this moment saying "You think just because you can see inside my head you know how it feels?" Charles is capable of feeling other people's emotions and understanding a lot of what goes on in their conscious mind. But really digging deeper into their subconscious and truly seeing people for who they are and what THEIR understanding of their feelings is (rather than Charles' understanding), is something that does still take work for him. And sure, Erik had the helmet on here. But Charles made it very clear he'd dug through literally all of Erik's memories prior to this point, even ones Erik himself had forgotten. But Charles' views from his own life can distort his perception of those memories. Erik's memories led him to believe that the humans would turn on them the second Shaw died. He was right. Charles should have also anticipated that. Hell, he should have seen it coming before even Erik did, since he could read the minds of every CIA operative they were near, and should have predicted how they would react based on that. But Charles is often incapable of looking at things objectively. For the record I think these are good things from a story perspective since it makes the dynamic between Charles and Erik a lot more interesting.

What I love about this sequence is that Marvel wasn't afraid to prove one of its most intelligent characters completely and utterly wrong. Xavier spent virtually the entire movie preaching to Erik about how killing Shaw would not bring him peace, and how he had to let it go. Instead, killing Shaw is so cathartic for Erik that it almost directly unlocks full access to his power. And as Erik gently floats to the ground, supported by his own fully realized powers of magnetism, the shock on Professor X's face makes it clear that this is an outcome he never contemplated.

It'll be a definite "cold" war made up of some kinda "rules" that humans and mutants wage. While humans are probably the greatest hunters and have been for hundred thousand years these mutants pose a new threat to human dominance over the earth. Unfortunately, there is no Earth 2.0 and until everyone figures that out there will always be a slow rolling war amongst the two factions. But make no mistake humans have the upper hand in terms of vast resources such as the making of Sentinels. We have cameras that can catch light, slow it down to almost nothing, this incorporating it into a Sentinel for example would make light speed mutants useless. Super strength mutants would mean little either. Eventually the technological side of humanity would wipe out mutants.

If humans become a mutant society, whereby things like status etc. were based upon mutant powers (as is bound to happen), that'll be the end of our story. This is because of "overspecialisation" (for the lack of a better term). Humans have come this far simply because unlike other powerful species on this planet, we received only limited direct natural gifts. We didn't have some natural occurring "shtick", whether venom or claws and fangs etc. to centre our living around. So we were forced to use our brains to solve problems as well as band together into cohesive societies (both these pressures further selected for intelligence and social adaptation).

You tell Magneto was ponding whether to release the missiles into the sea or send them back to the ships, Eric hadn't made a firm decision at that moment "Maybe Charles is right and this was a misunderstanding." However, after Charles's disastrous reasoning, Eric: "Right they, (humans) have chosen death."

Honestly Erik was definitely right to defend himself and Charles was wrong in his argument. Had he said something about them not knowing any better and giving him a chance to psychically explaining to them that they fucked up and they COULD die but the mutants choosing not to shows that they are the better men as such it would've been more leverage for mutants to be left alone. Erik mightve agreed to an intimidation tactic where they should what they COULD do but what they DIDNT do even when they were well within their rights to defend themselves
