The artillery is a unit with the longest range of fire you leave it in the back line and extend the vision into fog of war with other units and thus extend range

Fighter Swarms as the Rebel Alliance are really good. It seems like after the Defense of Sullust in the last few episodes Rooster has finally used the Fighter Swarm to it's fullest potential.

See, now it's actually scary when the Rebels had enough men and industrial capabilities to use swarm tactics with their advanced snubfighters. But then again, fighter spam has always been the early/mid game tactic as the Rebels in AOTR XD

you should put c3p0 INTO the gargantuan while not needed for healing to keep him protected, since it can hold units

That’s a lot of fighters for one ship, especially one that acts as a main battle ship. I would cut back and maybe replace a fighter with a bomber to balance it out but keep it strong

You should and like upgrades to your ships you can purchase. Like for example you get x wind instead of z95 and you get more turbo lasers kinda like a refit

Use other smaller ship like the mc40 as back up for the venator class star Destroyer it will help you but make sure you get capital ship upgrades 1 to level 3

there are a couple multiplayer games that fall under what you described, where you have players as your units while commanding in a RTS mode, such as Silica. I know there's more but their names are escaping me today.

on terms of dave's fleets you should not overlook the victory class they are a hard counter to most mon cala ship since there missiles ignore shields, they were the main reason for the battle of Saleucami being so rough since those ships (mc ships) have lots of shields

There was a game style similar to what your friend described, but it wasn’t a rts, it was a first person shooter. Natural Selection used to be super cool, would love to see more games like that where one player is the “commander”. The only one I can’t think of that people still kinda play is Hell Let Loose, also an fps

Your artillery ships are very useful you just need to use them properly, they're primarily back line ships using them for divide and conquering is not great and their range is as good as a tector perfect counter their abilities are great as well for me I'd have a dauntless or profundity in the front with fighter/ bombers and with two or more artillery ships they are so powerful with the ability activated
