One bonus of the 590 are the inspection holes under the air filter cover. It alows you to see down to the engine cylinders to look for grass build up. Other models dont have this.

Good video Davin, thanks for taking the time to show how you did your 100 hour maintenance. I changed my transmission fluid on the 80 hour mark. When you get around to changing the transmission fluid I recommend you get a flexible funnel with a long hose end. It helps trying to funnel it in the small offset space in the back.

Thank you! And yes, you are exactly right about needing a long funnel for the transmission fluid. I changed that at around 50 hours like it has on the service interval chart. I just didn't have time to film that one.

If it were me: I'd hang on to both those old plugs just in case one of the new ones should fail. It has been known to happen. Both plugs were good and healthy looking and you know they were good because the tractor was running well before you changed them. I'd discard them on the next change out and keep the 2nd set as spares. Something us country guys do when living 30 miles from town.

Yes, I keep a stash of parts. Like you say, you never know when you might need something.

Pinch the tank side off with a vice grips will also work ! Make sure to put the gas filter in with the correct flow . (Should be an arrow on it .)

Don't forget to lubricate the center front axle pivot, its easy to miss since its on the bottom of the tractor and difficult to get to. According to JD's schedule it should be lubed every 50 hours.

Thanks for the comment! I believe I found that later and greased it up, but now I am wondering. Will have to double-check!

I had to jack up the front of the machine with a floor jack to get to it, but then again, I have a big grease gun!

I think you should point out that the fuel filter has a directional arrow on it and must be fitted accordingly. It is often difficult to spot.

I think you just did. :-) Hopefully people keep track of the orientation and install it in the same direction. They are fairly distinct in their shape. That said, I'll see if I can add a quick overly to point this out. Thanks for contributing!

Have you had any issues with the EFI engine? I’m considering buying this model... would you buy it again?
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 5 жыл бұрын
The EFI is great. Starts up immediately, every time, cold weather or hot. So far, I have had 0 issues with the machine. I've had to replace the snow blower belt once, but that is an expected wear item. I would totally buy it again.

I have a first year 2015 X590. It was a hybrid year. All the parts of the X540 but with the EFI engine. Mine has been perfect. I would buy another without question. I have a 30" mechanical tiller and the 47" snowblower. This is a great machine.

Hi Davin, I asked you a year ago if you have had any problems with the 590 EFI. I’m ready to pull the trigger on one but I wanted to see if you are still problem free with the EFI engine. Thank you again...David

I actually just came in from mowing with it. Still starts instantly and I have had no issues at all. Very happy with it.It is a great year round machine for mowing and snow removal.

It's odd to me that Deere would make a home maintenance kit that lacks that last bit of oil to top things off. What, does Deere want owners to be running their machines a tad low on oil? Of course not, but having to buy a 3rd qt, makes some sense: you'll be left with the remainder for adding oil between changes, I guess... Just a FYI: my JD dealer advised me to change the oil at the 50 hr. mark, the same time I check the rear wheel torque. So, I will. Nice video, btw.

I’m considering the x584 with 4 wheels steer but has the carbureted engine vs the x590 with 2 wheel steer but has the EFI engine...not sure which is the better feature to have...

I've never tried 4 wheel steering, so I can't comment on that. I can say the x590 turns in tight circles.

I'm fresh off of shopping for a 500 series. Basically, if you don't need four wheel steer than don't get it. It adds complexity to the machine and it makes the machine weigh more. Bear in mind that 4-W-Steer will add some tail swing and you might not like the back end whacking things now and then. The cutting circle of the X590 is about 24".

@@discerningmind I have had a 4 wheel steer X324 for 11 years now and it has been completely trouble free except for the seat vinyl is all cracked. I have a lot of trees and a couple of outbuildings to mow around so I really like the maneuverability of the 4 wheel steer. It does add some mechanical complexity and a bit more weight on the rear axle. I also blow snow with it in the Winter so I regard any added weight on the rear to be a benefit. When the snowblower is mounted we have to add at least two suitcase counterweights anyway. This also increases traction. My next one will likely be the X584 because it has the K72 transaxle with locking differential. A locking diff is really good to have if you blow a lot of snow.

@@dkenmiller9829 Thanks for offering that. At the time I commented I hadn't made my decision what to buy. I ended up deciding on an X590. And that's worked well for my application. My only complaint is small, and sooo first world, that I'm almost ashamed to type it here. I will because it may help someone. While it does have very excellent power steering, there's too many turns lock-to-lock. But I had great luck anyway as it's so powerfully assisted that I can rapidly one-finger turn the steering wheel. I don't know how old you are but I'll risk saying that the X590 steering is as easy as that of a '61 Cadillac. I want to add that it's hard for us guy's when shopping for equipment like this because you can almost never test-drive a garden tractor. So I've always had to put in a lot of study, research, and asking people, to advert my buying a mistake. I've had that experience too. So when that new machine is delivered and it turns out to be great--thank God!

Doing the oil change WHEN the mower deck is removed is one thing. But taking the mower deck off to do it is totally unnecessary. Even my big oil pan fits between the mower deck and oil drain. Great video otherwise.

I think I was also replacing the blades at the time and decided to film the other maintenance after I had already done that. In any case, thanks for the compliment!
