Messi is a brilliant player but fifa have been using him as a pawn for their own gain and not everything he has was awarded to him unjustly and sadly him being that brilliant is why people struggle to see the bias that's always been there among so many other things

@@factsandfun4314Lewondowski deserved the award in 2020. That is irrefutably clear. Messi even called out the fact that Lewondowski was the best player last year in his victory speech. Sadly, the 2020 award was cancelled due to the covid restrictions, and thus the Polish scoring machine was robbed of what would have been the crowning moment of his sparkling career. As for 2021, although an unpopular opinion, i would say Messi marginally edged it over Lewondowski. He dragged a young and inexperienced Barcelona team through a difficult season of major transition, leading the club to the Copa Del Rey title. He was also top scorer in La Liga with 30 goals. He then captained Argentina to their first major international title since 1993 at the re-scheduled Copa America in Brazil, winning the golden ball and finishing top scorer in the competition. All this at the age of 33/34 as well. While Lewondowski's goal tally was significantly better than Messi's for the 2021 calendar year, in all other areas (i.e- assists, chance creation etc) Messi had higher stats. While Messi has had a relatively slow start this season at PSG, it is very understandable given how big the transition is after over two decades at Barcelona and it has been blatantly obvious that the Catalans have badly missed Messi, which has contributed significantly totheir poor start to the La Liga season. Trophies won also contributes heavily to the destiny of the Ballon Dor which also harmed Lewondowski's chances as his unfortunate injury in the spring ultimately cost Bayern the chance of retaining the UCL title they won in 2020, and his national team Poland were eliminated at the group stage at the Euros in the summer (although he did score in each of Poland's games) This also was a significant factor that put paid to his chances of beating Messi to the ultimate individual accolade. So if the award were based on the last 2 years (2020 and 2021) then Lewondowski would definitely have won it, but as the award was based soley on this year alone, i would say Messi just about deserved it due to the reasons mentioned above.

In 2010 and 2019 was by miles the best player in the world, you just had to see his matches he was in one of his primes. In 2015 Messi was more important for Barcelona than neymar who was more a joy to watch. In that year Messi played 67 games with 63 goals and 28 assist. While in 2021 Lewy only one bundes and German cup. Even though he scored a lot of goals I think it's not enough. The problem is that in that year Chelsea won UCL and they didn't have a superstar who deserved it. So because Messi won copa del Rey with one of the worst barça teams ever and he won copa América doing one of the best individuals performances during all the tournament ever. I think he deserved it
