Just picked up my first Volvo, XC90 V8 06, loved the look of it and the fact it has a v8 and AWD, living by Lake superior in winter makes having AWD great, deff. will be a vehicle I will care for. Seeing this video made me like the vehicle all the more. Having stalling issues now with it, as to be expected when I got this with 160k miles on it, if it hasnt gone it will soon, so time to change the fuel filter and pump. Great video!

Ben... I quite agree....FCP... seems to be a great supplier: But that rather depends where you live. I'm down in Chile with Xc90 V8.... (Love it)...And I need the blocks for the Window sliders... $1.50 each x 4 (both front windows) $6.00...yeah? Shipping almost $50! For four bits of plastic & clips that could go in a Jiffy-Bag...for say $10? I challenged them about it & they simply said..."Shipping is out of our hands." Be glad if anyone can explain that. Weird. Parts are ridiculously hard to get here for the car.....lots of "alternatives" as they like to say here....but I refuse to sully the car with cheap crap.

Hey awesome work! I have a '10 XC90 V8 Executive and I did the complete suspension overhaul & all front end over the last summer after my mechanic was too lazy to do it. All rubber bushings, isolators, ball joints, control arms. I used to restore cars and while this one appeared 'mint' I wanted to bring it back to brand new OEM stock for another 10 years of hard daily use. Nothing was outright broken, but it was all tired and limp wristed. Used OEM Volvo struts/shocks/mounts much as I could. FCP & IPD for other stuffs....but stick to Volvo as much as you can. I took the chance with Meyle HD Control Arms from FCP. Don't buy anything with the "C" word on it, or anything refusing to tell you where it's made. Motor mounts.... (why is there 5?!?! do the bracket braces too - remember VOLVO ONLY for the sensitive vibration related mounts). Car drives amazing now - wasn't bad before but still a night and day difference. Front end seemed to lift a 1/2" in just tired rubber. New stock is a lot firmer than you might expect on these more kitted out models - check the rear of B pillar passenger side for the build codes for the EXACT suspension parts (code "47" for example). Also did the headlights. Make sure to use a 2K headlight clear coat over a 1K adhesion promoter/primer for a more permanent finish. I only went down to 400 grit and wish I went down further for faster results & less elbow grease. Finish 3000 grit. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Just this last weekend I soundproofed the front and rear doors - used a 8mm closed cell foam deadener on top of the dynamat type base layer. 3 layers, outer door skin, inner door skin, inner door card. Feels SOLID, closes with a solid thud (like, even more than before lol). The mid-base/base improvements were substantial - almost like having mini subs on each door. Added about 6 lbs material per door. That Dyne Audio system sounds even more amazing! I'm eyeballing the Volvo Thalassa 20" wheels next ($,$$$.$$). If you're still having trouble with the suspension take a look at the front control arm bushings, I bet they are shot and deflecting. Or there are 4 main bushings holding the subframe in, they can get soft or tear. Poly inserts can tighten them up. Amazing cars but you need a lot of know how to keep them tip top. Enjoy your beautiful luxury tank - stay safe and good health! Cheers!

I have a 2007 V8 model. Once those valve cover gaskets go bad, you will lose oil like crazy! It is a long job and is quite difficult. My PCV hose wasn't in too bad of a shape but these engines do run pretty hot and it was dried out and brittle.
@luistaco10

@@DavidBello the valve itself seems more reliable and less likely to fail quickly on the v8 but the rubber hoses were definitely turned to plastic on mine. I would replace the valve and its hoses as preventative maintenance.

@@clintgriffin8310 I've gotta do mine soon. I don't have any leaks but I'm at 160,000km. What is the worst part? I just don't want to remove the drive belt to remove the power steering again as I replaced it 20,000km ago with pump/belt/tensioner. Is there anything else scary?
@clintgriffin8310
@clintgriffin8310 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexj6408 Mine started leaking at 170,000. It is very time consuming just because of all the little bolts you have to remove. Disconnecting the rear coil packs and fuel lines was the hardest part in my opinion due to the lack of room to work. I never had to mess with the belts so don't worry about that. Since you will have it all apart you might as well replace your intake manifold gaskets too as that will be the one and only time you'll get to do it.

Fantastic video David, and very helpful. I bought one of these last month, a 2008 V8 sport in electric silver. I have done a few things including the fuel door fix, the center console hinge replacement, etc. I had some issues with the transmission, even though the number is past the one where they have the valve body issue. Replacing the transmission fluid seems to have helped. Mine also is past the number that had the issue with the drain in the intake, which can cause the center balancer bearing (?) to seize. They say to be sure you never hose down the engine on the V8 for that reason. There are some very knowledgeable guys on Swedespeed that have been very helpful to me. Greatly appreciate this video and best of luck to you as you go. I looked at 4 Sport V8s in one day, and really wanted the Passion Red one, but this electric silver 2008 checked all the boxes for me!

First time to watch this channel, and I appreciate your video. If there is need to change the freon/the A/C doesn't cool as it should be, consider changing with R-152a/duster. It is compatible with R-134a systems, will not swell O Rings and works better than R-134a, especially on Highway and on old cars with R12 systems. I had my old S80 changed with R152a and I can notice the difference how fast it can cool the cabin when in high speed.
@patagualianmostly7437
@patagualianmostly7437 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why you think that R152a (Never even seen it available) should be better than R134a.....I can get almost "ice cold" air from my vents 5°C with an ambient of 23°C at an idling engine speed, (with cabin air on recirculate.) (Always check the cabin air filter: Any restriction here will impair efficiency.) The compressor clutch will eventually go into a "cycling" mode as the evaporator is simply getting too cold. At that point, of course, you go to fresh air input, and the cycling of the clutch stops. I can see no valid reason to switch to R152a.
@knk3220
@knk3220 3 жыл бұрын
@@patagualianmostly7437 Oh I think your situation is not comparable with me. In my place it is 40°C in summer, and my car had to park under the sun, it is not uncommon to see 60°C+ in the interior. I filled my car with R152a(which is duster in USA) and the car cools faster than when it was filled with R134a. I am always in recirculate mode and change my cabin filter once per year to optimize the performance. And sometimes I even spray water onto the condenser for better cooling. One of the most overlooked advantages of R152a is that it swells o-rings the least among common refrigerants, and provide identical performance to R12 gas. Thus it will be the best replacements for R12 system.

For the aux jack, dont reclip it in that spot. Just let it dangle down below and run a 3.5mm extension cable out to the front pen holder. Then you dont smash into it every time you set a drink down. Plus, the rubber flap still covers up the hole so it doesn't look stupid.

I always wondered if the fears of the GM transmission failures were a little overblown. I have a 2000 S80 T6 with 270,000 miles and the transmission has never skipped a beat. Same engine and GM transmission as in the T6 XC90s.

@@ethand4900 Absolutely no fluid change until about 160k. That's when we found out one of the freeze plugs in the CV shafts had failed and was getting grease into the tranny it didn't love that, but with multiple fluid changes and a new filter it was back to normal. I just changed the fluid again at right about 230k and did a transfix accumulator spring modification making it shift faster. I'm not gonna say that it doesn't have it's hiccups every now and then but for the most part it's good.

Hi Mr.David I am a proud father of two we love and appreciate your videos I also own a 07 Volvo Xc90 V8 Sport my mechanical baby and only car at the moment. I ran out of transmission fluid coming home from work and it gets worse my car was randomly vandalized.. through Gods Grace and Mercy I was able to find a mechanic who would do the job but at a price, he would do the bondo treatment paint job and installation of the windshield and sunroof only for the electrical modules to shut off ever since my sweet and daring Volvo has been down from running out of gas mid traffic to no warning for the low content of transmission fluid and idk where or how to start doing my own electrical jobs for our baby I ran diagnostic that's how I knew about the ECM now the transmission isn't destroyed severely I don't think but I dont know how to put any fluid in and where to find fluid besides taking to dealership and I read something about having to go under vehicle like you did in your video Bottom line I need Jesus for this repair I dont want it sitting I just want to wash my car go to the gas station top it off go back to work again any suggestions? Also what are you naming your V8 and I like Bruce a Classic Beast Bro My V8's name is Onyx Till next vid stay safe take care of yourself and your family thanks for hearing me out.

Hi David , I have an option of 2014 xc90 run for only 27000km Redesign. Getting for around 12.5k USD , u think should I go for it. The thing which is bothering me is will it have any repairs sooner, as in here , very few people go for Volvo. I want to know whether xc90 are stable, and after what km running does the problems starts. Maybe your answer will help me in my decision for purchase.., Thx

I couldn’t tell you when to expect problems but the 2014 cars look beautiful and are still relatively new so you can expect them to be a little more reliable. That’s part of the success of the long production run when the rest of the fleet was already moving on by 2010

@DavidBello
@DavidBello 3 жыл бұрын
I use premium 91 octane only. Volvo says it can run on regular 87 but recommend premium. with higher mileage and anecdotal stories about potentially gumming up the engine components or the reduced fuel economy, it’s worth the extra $4-6 per tank to ensure cleaner operation and possibly higher economy. My economy is 14 city and 20 highway.

I am pleased you call it a park brake and not an E brake, because the braking capacity of them is not fit for any emergency. Simply compare the actual specs of the braking system and compare that with the park brake and you will see it make sense only as a means of holding a vehicle in a stationary position and not an alternative to the standard system for an emergency. I have never understood why Americans refer to park brakes as E brakes, unless the E stands for something else. I like your vids, so I will sunscribe. When I lived in Australia, I had a 940 turbo, a 960 and also a V70, all wagons.
@joedirtmcd3

The "emergency brake" term likely comes from a safety requirement in the event that the hydraulic braking system were to fail. There's a completely independent mechanically linked system to use in that case of "emergency".

All I plan to do is a valve body swap on mine. 650 bucks to have a transmission shop do it and 4 to 6 hours of sitting around. I am hunting for a cooler at the moment. The V8 models didn't have coolers and the 08 and older models had soft valve body material so the bores would get worn out which causes downshift slams and shift flares usually between 2nd and 3rd which is what mine is doing.
