Excellent review. In March I switched to xero shoes sandals and I can't wear soles anymore. My foot health and strength is so improved I don't want to go backward by wearing thick soles again. I was just talking about needing to find a hiking style and bam, your video came up while I awoke early today. Win!! You are a blessing treasure trove of gear review!! It's overwhelming with the options and you superbly help me narrow down the options to find what's right for me while including brands/items I wouldn't have considered or known about in some cases. love your energy! please mention if the barefoot shoes have: toe spring form. I use my gobi 2 desert for boxing. I used to box with toe spring barefoot shoes, it messed up my achilles and even the psoas muscle

Hello! Thank you for reviews! Does the support insert in Magna rub ankle too much? I'm currently deciding between Magna Light SG and Primus Trail 3. I have experience wearing the Adidas Free Hiker Cold RDY and they have worn my ankles down to scratches. I understand that Vivo is a completely different story, but I want to know for sure so as not to harm my ankles. Thank you!

I have the Vivo in a low version but find that when I wear my wool socks they fit too snug (I have narrow feet). I have at least 6/7 pairs of each brand but I’m not a fan of the thick ankle on the Xeros.

I have the Zeros but because I have a larger sized foot I actually had to go with the men’s and got the yellow and grey accented color. Just took them on a several day hike through the Cascades and loved them!

The pandemic had me working at home for two years and while at home, I'm mostly barefoot. After being forced back to work, I soon longed to rid myself of shoes, so discovered barefoot shoes. I LOVE them. I've replaced my every-day shoes, my golf shoes (yes, I found barefoot style golf shoes) and am awaiting an order of the Vivo Magna Forest ESC hiking boots. I live in the desert SW, so the cooler boots seemed like the way to go, and I even found a good deal online! Can't wait to try them out because my last hike wearing my old boots actually felt very strange because of the heel.

I had vivo barefoot trainers but the soles wore out within a few months. For £130 which is an extremely premium price, they should last years not a few months

I use the Bellville mini mil tr102. It's the only true barefoot boots I could find in an 8 inch upper with a fully gusseted tung. Edit. . . Ps. . . Whatever. The resan why I go with an 8 inch has nothing to do with ankle support. Even if I needed it, which I don't most boots don't synch down tight enough to give my elvish ankles any kind of support. I live in Oklahoma and I hike a lot and I don't like bugs, scree and rocks getting in my footware, I do however carry a dubble edged boot knife as a mountain lion back scratcher.

Great review! I like my xero mesa and still my favorite is my merrell trail glove 7. The trail glove 4 was good also. More barefoot feel in the older merrell. I live and hike in New Hampshire so lots of wet and muddy trails. So i looking for a barefoot water proof boot. Seems like the Vivo is good. Just the price 🤦‍♂️

After putting miles in both, vivos are way higher quality, xeros a an affordable introduction to barefoot shoes. Xero is easily the best bang for buck. But vivos just have that aesthetic edge and the fact they actually use leather and wool in many models is a huge plus. Way better then synthetics. The other big thing is certain vivos like the magna and tracker ESC models have both outsole stitching and cementing vs cementing alone so the sole will stay attached to the boot longer which the cementing breaking down seemed to be my one real flaw with xero.

Yeah except Vivos have those weird low volume toeboxes that look like duck beaks and are super uncomfortable if your toes need upper space and that basically ruins all their shoes no matter how cool they are. They also slope rather aggressively on the outer side of the toebox. They need to change their last to achieve perfection.

Both very true, that's why you can't say which is 'the best' shoe. If you have high volume foot or a particular toes shape that don't fit vivos - you've got to go with Xeroes or merrels, or other brand.. and that's perfectly fine.. I'm happy though that vivos fit my foot shape better cause I also like everything else about the company.. and on that note, maybe there will be the perfect for everyone one day cause Vivo, being the tail blazers they are are just trying out new concept of m manufacturing shoes according to individual unique foot scan which should make the perfectly fitting shoe..

@@jgsk78 I saw some of their custom biome shoes and unfortunately they still seem to follow the same last as all their shoes with the low volume duck beak shaped toebox.

Good point but they fit my feet and the 100 day no issues returns is brilliant they are a bit more expensive for sure but i relly like the company and the ground feel are brilliant xero are a brilliant company too i find the sizeing a bit off sometimes@CptAngelADVlogs

Those are breathable mesh boots they're not supposed to be waterproof like the excursion fusion

Do you know if there is a benefit of barefoot hiking boots over barefoot hiking shoes? If they are not meant to provide support anyway and are not waterproof why would I seek a boot?

Waterproofing is only really desirable in the cold months. Waterproof = not breathable, so if you're hot and sweating because it's summertime, you don't want your shoes to be waterproof. Personally, for hiking in warm weather, I wear breathable trailrunners 100% of the time, hiking in the very rugged Whites. The benefit of the barefoot boot is winter wear. If you're hiking in cold weather and through snow, you would certainly prefer a shoe that is waterproof, insulated, rises above the ankles and has a thicker/tougher tread for gripping in extra slippery conditions. It does sacrifice some of the barefoot feel, but at least it is not squishing the toes or forcing the feet into unnatural positions the way "regular" boots would.

Vivo for me- whenever I hear 'comfort shoe" it means less ground feel and too much shoe.

I do not understand why the X shoes are so thick in the ankle. I want to avoid debry to get inside my shoe and that is basically it. The "ankle support" is a dream only people who do not lift barefoot believe. 😂

Imagine wearing pants that wouldn't let your leg bend. That's what we are doing to our feet. Who told us we need to support our feet aka immobilize them. I just threw away every single pair of my "normal shoes" that I now call foot prisons. Took the red pill and can't go back.

Both pairs of those boots look so sick I’d probably buy either on looks alone.. and I never buy gear for looks. Those Xero ones are tight.. and I don’t just throw that word around.. it hold some serious weight 😅

Is it possible to use the vivos in colder temperatures? Not talking about snow but that would be interesting too. I like them being vegan ✌🏻

I’ve backpacked in the Vivos when the overnight lows were in the mid-30’s F, but not saying my toes weren’t cold when sitting around making dinner! 😅 No complaints when I stay moving, though, and hiked in breezy 45 temps without issue.

I just bought the Vivobarefoot Magna Lite SG. I noticed you are wearing socks, why are you not barefoot ?? should you wear toe socks with these ? Thank you !!

You do you, boo! I like toe socks to help prevent blisters, especially on super long hikes when dust and grit can get in and irritate soft, sweaty skin. But if you prefer going barefoot, that's totally an option, too.
