This shoot-out really surprised me. The least expensive radio seems to perform the best here. It is a comparison between the Qodosen SR-286, XHDATA D-808, XHDATA D-608WB, XHDATA D-368, Tecsun PL-368 and Eton Elite Traveler III.
The signal is Shan News Radio, a clandestine station that targets Myanmar. The station itself is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The transmitter is in Al Dhabbaya, UAE, with azimuth of 90 degrees, so directly to the east from the UAE. Received in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The station transmits during my daytime, 12:30 UTC to 13:30 UTC. Because the signal is aimed directly east from the UAE, it is not strong at my location, but quite clear enough. This is an interesting and unusual signal, and an unusual result in my comparison. The signal weakened a bit during my comparison, but I think you can still get a good idea of how the different radios perform.
