Great review! I live in Cyprus and only have access to these kind of wearables. If I want others, like the Inspire2, I'll have to import from Germany. I might still do that, but really, after watching a load of your videos mostly I'm just thinking I should get that chest-strapped dedicated heart monitor, one of those finger devices for blood oxygen, and for sleep..... still not sure... probably the Inspire 2 actually :P

I really have to thank you for this channel, it's just what I really wanted to find and had a hard time doing so before finding your channel! Sounds crazy to compare a fitness watch with a regular smartwatch, but based on your results, would you recommend the Mi Watch vs the Polar Vantage M2? As far as I know the M2 is just a software upgrade over the M, hardware is the same, and whereas the Polar is obviously better in heart rate and sleep detection , I wonder if it's really worth 3x the price. My main use would be to check sleep quality and heart rate while riding a bike outside during the week and mountain biking on weekends. HR data is not precise on any wrist based watch while mountain biking because of the nature of the sport, so I was wondering if it's close enough in the other scenarios.

I agree with others- your reviews are much more useful than the others which are more interested in how many sensors there are, rather than whether they are any use or are even vaguely accurate

I absolutely love your scientific approach. Nevertheless, since the firmware of those watches is updated every now and then, it would be better for you to specify WHICH Firmware version your tests do refer to ;-) Keep going!

A great review. I enjoyed the feature list at 1:22. However, in comparison with Mi Band 6, the watch lacks pulse oximeter (so I believe it won't measure the quality of my breath at night) and daytime sleep. I prefer the band. (I did watch the review of Mi Band 6 in full). I am looking forward to Mi Band 7!

I agree with the rest that your approach is really refreshing! might i add a suggestion or the HR en sPO2 measurements: perhaps the accuracy would improve if you would wear the watch around your wrist instead of the lower part of your arm.

Thank you. Here in Russia fitbit charge 4 is almost 2 times the price (≈200euro), and Sense is 4 times the price (≈400euro). So yeah, not really a good (I mean "equal") alternative. Xiaomi Mi Watch is 90 euro here right now, so, for that price, I think it's perfect overall budget choice.

Body fat tracking is unreliable, not accurate and not consistent, dexa included. Do not buy a watch because it has body fat/muscle/water tracking, it would be a waste of money. Samsung just introduced this feature because they could not introduce glucose tracking and they had to differentiate the GW4 from the GW3.

Alright, after watching your thorough research and reviews, I've decided to buy the Mi watch. It's been already 2yrs that I've been pondering whether I should buy one and which ones are accurate for sleep analyses, spo2 and step counts. Wonder, does it count steps if you move your hand like stirring something? This is very important to me. My fitbit counts everything as a step.

if possible could you retest a previous watch/band that has been updated wirelessly. since the measurement and calculation is all based on software a simple update could possibly change the accuracy of the device. i am interested in the future update of Mi Band 6 since your tested version was very bad. maybe in the future an update could save it. thank you very much for your work!

OK, seriously now, you saved me at least 100 euros (and yes I've watched more than 20 of your amazing videos!). I'm a novice runner (max 5K), needed just basic info like GPS (distance + pace) and an approx heart rate for calorie count. I was looking for Samsungs and Garmins, but let me tell you, for someone that knows what he/she needs, this cheapo Mi Watch is great! I've used it for hiking too and gave the same readings (distance/altitude/steps) with my friend's Huawei GT2. Thanks for all your effort, keep it up, love from Athens/Greece.

Thanks for the complete and great scientific review for Xiaomi Mi Watch. Meanwhile, I recently found out that this watch does not support PAI function, which is a very helpful function for anyone who wants to have an overview of her/his fitness, since this function was introduced after Mi Watch's release. So, I think it is better to wait for the next generation of this watch, that would hopefully have all the new functions of Xiaomi bands and watches.

The results for the sleep data here are relatively solid. Xiaomi claims the S1 series is 35% more accurate according to their own study. This bit of marketing seems highly suspicious to me. Even if the improvement is only half that, then that would be tremendous at that price. What is your knowledge of or sense about this claim? Any plans to do an S1 test or comparison test? It would also be nice to know if the SpO2 has become reliable.

@@Paladin53 I decided to pull go for it. ....it was a mistake! It's an oversized fitness band (not really a smart watch) and a bad one at that. The appearance of everything meets expectations, but the substance, data detail, accuracy, and functionality are all missing. I can't see that any of the results other than perhaps the step counter or GPS tracking are accurate to a useful degree. The sleep data appears to be entirely based off of heart rate (which is a flawed model), and there is no indication that the heart rate tracking is any better than Mi Watch, which was ok, but not excellent. I can't recommend this "watch" if you care about the data quality, and I can't recommend it if you want other features (there basically are none and there are no apps that work with it because it's a proprietary OS). Two thumbs down! I'm going to sell mine or perhaps donate it to The Quantified Scientist.
