A big thanks to E.M. Jimenez on this one! Since I was covering a Mexican legend, I really wanted to consult with someone who lived there for this song! He was a great help with the lore and getting the general sound figured out as well! I hope you guys enjoy this song! If so, perhaps I’ll do more songs on other legends/cryptids in the future!

Lyrics:
Deep in the moonlit night
Upon a river view
No other soul in sight
But something bothers you
Off in the distant fog
A fragile cry breaks through
A woman alone in white
Weeping tears of blue
Where you going senorita crying on your own
Something tells me that this path is one you walk alone
Ay Llorona
Are all the things that they say about you really true?
That you lost your way, searching for your children on a rainy day
Ay Llorona
Are you a lost wayward soul just looking for a friend
In the misty night, desperately crying out with all your might
“ah mío hijos…
ah míos dios”
Try to reach out to help
But something isn’t right
Suddenly chills are felt
An air of subtle fright
Muddy red stains upon
A wispy dress of lace
Something is surely wrong
It’s etched into her face
Where you going senorita you know it’s too late
Something tells me that this story met a grizzly fate
Ay Llorona
Are all the things that they say about you really true?
That you lost your way, searching for your children on a rainy day
Ay Llorona
Are you a lost wayward soul just looking for a friend
In the misty night, desperately crying out with all your might
“ah mío hijos…
ah míos dios”
I feel it in my soul
This lump I cannot swallow
The truth is not so kind
Behind those tears a sick mind
Ay Llorona
Are all the things that they say about you really true?
That you lost your way, searching for the children that you threw away?
Ay Llorona
Hearing them scream at the water crashing all around
Did you even care? As your children cried and sputtered out for air
Ay Llorona
Are all the things that they say about you really true?
That you lost your way, searching for the children that you threw away?
Ay Llorona
Hearing them scream at the water crashing all around
Did you even care? As your children cried and sputtered out for air
Ay ay ay Llorona…

I hope you guys enjoy this song! I know my Spanish is GOD AWFUL hahaha but I wanted to give it a shot since the legend is Mexican in origin. I can thank E.M. Jimenez for his help in getting the lore and general instruments/sound of the song right. I'd like to do more legend/cryptid songs in the future and would like to continue reaching out to collaborate with people from the cultures from which the stories came in order to do them better justice. Sorry in advance, because I know they won't be perfect and I'll make mistakes. But I at least want to make an effort to include/credit the cultures that created these rich stories. I'll keep trying to get better!

Fun fact; In some mexican villages, there aren't any hospitals. They say that when she cries, it sounds like an ambulance. If it sounds close, she's far. If it sounds far, she's close. (at least that's the legend in my town)

@@chana5302do you by any chance know why they say if it sounds close she’s far, and if it sounds far she’s close? I can’t help but wonder if it comes from the idea that she’s tricking her victims or if she supposedly quiets when she hears someone. Sorry if I’m asking a lot- I absolutely love legends like this and would love to know more! Heck- I need to reread this legend and see if I can find an authentic version of it translated into English

Madame Macabre was part of my pree teens, I loved songs like Balloon animals, God Syndrome, Painted Smile, My Prey and The Pianist but also younger songs like Bog Witch or Monster Underneath Your bed so I'm glad I rediscovered her but I'm sure "Ay mios dios" and "Ay mios hijos" aren't correct. "Oh my god" would be "Ay, dios míos" and "Oh, my children/sons" would be "Ay, mis hijos" but I still appreciate the hard work behind this song, it's very unique, haunting yet awakening empathy 🖤

I just feel bad think about it I know murder is a sin and also “suicide” but I think people deserve a second and the husband should also be doomed to the same fate humans aren’t perfect and if a gods so fickle that they don’t give mercy then are they really a god ? Or what everything has a cause and it’s better to try to understand them instead of condemning them think about it what would you do in her place I know most of you would say “Oooh I’d just move on “ but that’s not true you would feel something and she was just to fragile in that state to think about her actions

She was punished for drowning her own kids. No matter what, there is no excuse for it which was why she was punished. If the mother, one of the two people meant to take care of them, kills them instead, yeah, they will be treated worse than the cheating lover because the cheater didn't try to kill anyone, merely cheated. Still bad but not as bad. There is no second chance for killing your own kid.
