@kencook4956 0 seconds ago I bought one for myself, and my wife checked it out and immediately wanted one. We've been on about a half dozen rides and both LOVE the helmet. They're lightweight and don't give you that mushroom-head look. We even took this helmet to the next level and added a Cardo Edge comms with the half-helmet boom mic and it works a treat. The front light is just to make you more visible and not any night light EXCEPT when you stop and want to look in your bag for something you don't need to grab your phone for a light to see inside. The chin strap is comfy and super easy to get on and off once you get used to it (takes using it a few times to get used to it).

Thank you for this comment and for sharing how you use it, including the use of the front light. It does come in handy, doesn't it? I have two helmets with integrated lights and really enjoy that feature.

A good helmet is like a good bike lock. Lots of people ride and tour without them. And you don't need them, until you need them, and then you really need them; if you get my meaning.

Good information. When considering a helmet, don't look at the price, but instead ask yourself, what is my life worth? 50 years ago, when helmets first came on the market, I bought a spring-loaded helmet instead of a foam lining, made in the USA by Mountain Safety Research MSR I was T boned by a car and I flew over the top of the car and landed on my head on the pavement. The helmet absorbed to impact of the fall. Because of that helmet my children grew up having a dad. and their kids have a grandpa. The E-bike helmet looks like much thought was put into the design. Similar designs are now available for lower speeds. Six months ago, I bought a Bern helmet from REI with a similar design including the removeable visor, but with more air flow. The price was about $125 USD. More air flow means less protection. Everything in life is a tradeoff. Traveling at higher street speeds than a peddle bike means more protection to the front of the skull is needed, which means less air flow. The built in front and rear light on the E-bike helmet should be on all helmets.

Thank you for sharing this! And what an amazing story to have, especially one that ended so well for you and your family. I agree with your point about lights on helmets. I, too, think they should all have them. As well as some reflective components on the sides.

Allways good information here! Thanks for sharing. We are looking at a new helmet for tour this summer. Good to know about the poor ventilation. Also, is there a head band you (or anyone) recommend for absorbing sweat? I tried many products and have always gone back to a cloth rag.
@WheelsonaBike

I used to wear cycling caps underneath my helmet and they were sufficient about managing sweat. I always get swear stains on my caps as a result but they do the job.

Good review, nice helmet with some useful lights, although they could be a bit brighter perhaps. But the price is a bit high for me. My current helmets? I ride with helmets that offer additional cover to the back of the head. One is a Decathlon Van Rysel helmet that I like because there is a clip at the back for one of Decathlons rechargable bike lights. My favorite helmet is a Monca brand (maybe not available in N America) MTB helmet. I like the Monca becuase it has both a sun peak and a visor, you can attache one, or the other, or both. It is a magnetic snap on visor, not a flip up or slide version. I find the visor useful for cold wind days, or blowing sand/dust. The helmet comes with two visors, once clear, one black. Under my helmets I generally wear a UV protection fishing hat with peak, face veil and neck cover. This gives good UV protection and stops me swallowing bugs. NB I cannot use the visor on the Monca wearing a peaked cap.But I use the visor for winter riding only.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for this comment and for sharing the helmets and their design features that work for you. You were right about the Monca helmet - I'm not familiar with it, but found it online. One thing that I left out of the review (it was getting a bit long) were my asks - one of which was a pull down visor for eye protection at high speeds, this would negate the need for me to wear goggles in the winter time. You're right about the brightness of the lights, they're not super bright, but they're not meant for seeing but more to be seen.

I usually wear a helmet, but not always especially in the summer. I find they don’t have enough of a visor to keep a low sun out of my eyes. In winter, I have a helmet with a tinted face plate I can slide into place. It’s nice but does get too hot when I’m pedalling across a frozen lake….but too cool to take it off. The one you featured might be a good compromise esp with a liner if I find it too cool without one.

Thanks for sharing what works and doesn't for you. The visor on this helmet is quite wide, but not adjustable - unless you want to reposition it with the velcro attachments. My oyhrt helmet has an adjustable visor but it's very shallow and doesn't really work too well. Nothing's perfect.

I love the lights. I have long hair. How comfortable is this with a pony tail? I hate wearing helmets because of the lump at the back of my head. I rarely when helmets because of the discomfort. An exception is when mountain biking. Riding the forest is a constant fall hazard.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
Hmmm. That's an interesting consideration. I wear my hair short now, so can't speak for how this work work with a ponytail, but it may be an issue as the helmet sits lower at the back of the head, which would mean your pony tail would have to be tied at the base of the neck.

Hi! Helmets are also useful, in my case, for protecting yourself from accidental tree branches on the road. Unfortunately, in my country people do not wear them 'cause they do not find them useful or are too expensive. Thanks for the video.

Many people don't wear helmets. If you watch videos of people riding in the Netherlands, for example, hardly anyone wears them. Living in North America, our infrastructure is very different and the chances of being hit by a car while riding, for me, are quite high. Been there and done that. So helmets are a must for me. But are they necessary for everyone, especially if the infrastructure is right? Certainly for ebikes, as they move at a faster speed, but regular bikes, cruising speeds, this can be argued both ways.
@petesig93

Where I live and ride we have a crackpot helmet LAW. Everyone whatever your age or experience is required to wear one, on roads and on any bike-path as well. ALWAYS, under pain of $300+ fines! This ridiculous law has seen the decimation of teenage bicycle use. In 1990 I did the counts at a school that I worked at. After the law change, 200+ regular riders became just 19 within 3 months. Let people make up their OWN choice about helmet use. The nations which are safest to ride a bicycle in, do not have ANY helmet laws. Helmet use is not even any recommended safety strategy.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
Yes helmet laws seem to be in place when infrastructure is questionable. Very few people wear helmets in the Netherlands, from what I see in videos, and there are so many people riding bikes there.

Probability of dying from skin cancer is greater than from getting killed by a car. I wear a large hat to protect myself from the sun. I get a potentially lethal allergic reaction from contact with cars so I avoid them at all costs and have a long and sharp stick that points out to the left of my bike when I ride. It works. Unless someone is on their cellphone. But then I'm already dead, regardless of whether I'm wearing a helmet. (Happened to a former co-worker of mine. Flew 25m through the air, dead. Then he hit the ground. In front of his wife. Could have been me today.) Our infratructue and legal system puts us "in harms way". Furious, I am!

Riding with a soft noodle sticking out to the side is something that I saw cyclists do while touring. It wouldn't necessarily work here in Toronto, as other cyclists wouldn't have much room to pass. The trails are getting very full and they are on the narrow side. I don't use a noodle, but I do take the lane when I need to. The man who hit me at highway speed while I was on tour didn't see me either. I was very lucky and walked away with minor scratches and bruises, but it could've gone badly.

:-( I do not wear a helmet. My average speed ranges between 20 and 25 km/h. I max out between 40 and 50 km/h daily. My "regular" helmet will not protect me at this speed. My helmet is not designed to protect me against impacts with cars. When I am on separated bicycle infrastructue I no longer NEED the helmet. We wear helmets to make motorists more comfortable passing cyclists, not to save cyclists lives. If we really wanted to save cyclists lives we would build infrastructure for them. And we lost one in Elora/Fergus Ontaro today. :'-( >:-( Tired of the dying and the patronising and the pacifying. Make it safe. Do it now. No more funerals.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
The points you make are absolutely right. There aren't too many people who commute by bike in the Netherlands who wear a helmet. Infrastructure is key.
