Not relevant now because of the D2 update, but the Deus 2 discrimination level affects this test. You adjusted the Manticore iron and the D2 silencer, silencer and discrim kinda work together. Nice test all the same thanks

It is my impression that the Deus 2 really likes to average the TID across a wider set of data, which gives it stability, but is also what causes it to be dragged down by iron and which is why it doesn't 'refresh' as often as other detectors. Since the numerical value of the discrimination setting acts as a tonal break point while in the fast program, you can extract the 'real TID' of the target by raising the discrimination until the tone changes from non-ferrous to purely ferrous. So if you raise the discrimination to 70, and then the non-ferrous tone changes to iron, then 70 is the 'true TID' that is not being displayed because of the heavily averaged TID paradigm that the D2 employs. It's a bit tedious to do in the field, but its a method to get a better TID and lower your odds of digging an iron false in the field when presented with a target that you are trying to differentiate between a masked non-ferrous target and an iron false. This is in direct opposition to the quickly refreshing, but noticeably more bouncy TID paradigm employed by the Manticore, for example.

Great comparison looks like the D2 and Manticor are pretty equal.

Try notching out iron instead of discing it out. I have my disc at 0 (beach sensitive, lowest disc will go) and notch from 0-6.6. Can hear targets next to iron, and the ID doesn't lock on the iron like you are showing.

Great test, nice work. What is the downside of setting and leaving the silencer at zero instead of 2? Seemed to really make difference as the targets got harder. But what do lose?

Hey Iffy, Keep the knowledge flowing. I've got a 600 and am inexperienced. I was going to uprade to 900, but if the Xterra pro has the same audio potential I'd get it then have a back-up.

When do you think you’ll do the nox 900? I’m still trying to decide between it and manticore. Have the 800 now and not sure if it’s worth the upgrade.

I like the tests you do, I'm curious to see how the Legend performs. Been in some really Iron infested sites and have done pretty well. I'm sure i am missing targets still

Can you do a video showing how to get the greatest depth out of both the Manticore and the D2? A buddy and I have a permission on an early 1800s house. We've been there already and only came out with mostly 1950s (and newer) coins and other finds. That was right around the time the area around the 1800s house was developed with streets and other houses added (fill dirt was put in around the house, but at least it's clean without much junk). I've got what I think are pretty good settings based on some deep stuff in my test garden, but I'd like to see what someone else develops too. Thanks!

As a person who still uses an Etrac exclusively, and is on the fence between upgrading to a Manticore or the D2, these are very helpful videos! I do have one somewhat idiotic question, but I honestly can't tell just from looking at the vid -- are you using a 9" or 11" coil? I realize that coil size wouldn't have much of an impact on this test, but would like to know just the same. Thank you!

Good video. I was really interested in watching the manticore video. I have one on order. I have a vanquish 540 currently, it’s a good detector and my first. My question is, would you make adjustments like that out in the field when detecting? Or is that just for the test. You put out a lot of good videos. You were my go to KZfaqr for the vanquish.

So...what happens if you adjust it to hit everything in level 4 and then go back to the 'easier' targets? Does it still see the target?

i have a new 900 and I hate the cam locks. No matter how much I tighten the lower one,, the coil rotates and I have to constantly straighten it. this is hunting in fields and talll grass, but happens as well when I'm hugging the ground with it. I've heard the Manti has the same problem. Heck, minelabs manual says not to tighen it but leave it loose. Have you experienced this? I'm ready to sell mine.

There's recovery speed - and there is swing speed. They go hand in hand. If you really want to separate targets, you have to vary the swing speed! i.e. Deus 2, rec. 3, swing slower.
