its 1:30 into the video and he is still talking about what he is going to show in the video... i started skipping forward at that point and land on a moment where he goes through different settings. but all he does is reading whats on the screen, without explaining exactly what these settings do. thats a typical kind of video that "seems" to be informative.. but in reality its an excercise about talking very much and saying very little. many creators do this.. but these usually dont have many subs.

Great video, that histogram tip is really helpful. Quick tip from my experience. When using the timer in the PhotoPro app (not sure if it happens in the regular app, haven't tried it), the phone focuses AFTER the timer winds down, and then takes the photo. This is important, especially if shooting handheld, since the timer countdown gives the user time to stabilize the phone after pressing the shutter button (since this action itself causes the phone to move!). When shooting lowlight photos, especially with the 70mm, reducing that shake is a must. If you don't use the timer, you'll always have a blurry image in low light shooting, since the app lowers the shutter speed. Another thing that I have noticed: When shooting in auto mode in low light on the 70mm, the lowest shutter speed, even in extreme lowlight, will be 1/8 @ 1000 iso. My guess is that the app is trying to find the right balance between noise and camera shake. To get around this, you have to use manual mode. This is excellent! Exactly what I was looking for... a little more in depth feature review and tutorial specific to maximizing results from the Xperia directly, and not trying to translate from an Alpha tutorial that's not the same hardware. Do you plan on doing similar reviews / tutorials for the new Xperia 1 iii? That's my next device, and the camera lens setup and software setup is upgraded a bit from the 1 ii. Haha! Good luck there, Scott! Use a higher shutter speed ... or maybe even shutter priority for kids in action. (S Mode) I just did a whole tutorial on this and you can check it out. Only difference is that since the aperture is fixed on phones it will be the ISO that changes to expose properly. Cheers!

Hey James, i ordered the Xperia 5ii. Will probably receive it next monday. i am a big Sony fan (since sony ericsson PS1 etc.) Many reviewers are negative about Sony, i was a bit worried if i chose the right phone. I hate having a notch, i do like having a mini jack in a phone. Now that i've watched some of your videos about the pro apps i know i chose the right one. I do not know much about photography but i'm always intrigued by it. This phone and your help might help me get more out of it. You make some great videos. Honest and fair. Great video. Only thing I don't get is with shutters speed. In my previous sony phones I had the option to play with ss and up to 1 sec, it would take much more time to take the picture but it would be much better at gathering more light at night. How to use this for night pictures? I see no difference. Thanks in advance

Great information. Perhaps you can talk in your next video of the Sony about night shots. The night is actual the only situation i use the auto mode, i like the results. Actual i do not use the raw mode, have you done some night raw shots and how was the comparison to the jpeg? I saw your review video with the raw picture but this was in daylight.

As myself using the iPhone, I usually seeks on photography whatever angles and didn’t fully keeps it when it is not appropriate photos are taken. It’s the same functions as the Sony which uses high quality cameras and lightings when on the move.

Thank you for the great video! Now I have learned how to take great pictures on my Sony Xperia 5 ii. It's very sad that DxoMark gives very low score for Sony Xperia 1 ii and 5 ii cameras.

I have a question. With the 24mm cam, continuous af, and wide focus you get the squares that focus. Using the exact same settings with the 70mm lens or the 16mm lens I don't get those squares so I'm never sure if it is focussing and on what. You know how this works?

Great tutorial! Question: what the accessory is used to hold the Xperia in this video? Is it connected while the phone is in the protecting case?

Ah yes, I just have a simple case on the phone and am using the Ulanzi ST-02S Aluminum Phone Tripod Mount w Cold Shoe Mount. $15 on Amazon. Thanks so much and Cheers!
