Glad to see another video like this! Pre ordered my 1 III to replace my 1 I. Still tired of seeing mainstream reviewers dog on this phone though. also I love that you're using that smart power draw during video and photo editing. I'm going to be using mine on my gps apps

@@skringardhildegard4000 It stopped charging. Changed charging port did not help. At first if I put pressure on it around the charging port it would charge. Did some reading and came the conclusion that it was a b2b connector. Sent it to get that changed but it did not fix it. Best phone I ever bought. Bought off Amazon for $574.74 in November 2017

Thanks for your coverage of the Experia Mark 3 Juan. I watched your video before any others, and your predictions of what others would say were spot on. I was rolling my eyes watching other reviewers ignore features on this device to nit-pick small things like a name or the Pro Mode for photos and videos. Thank you for being honest, and I can't wait for your full review. I'm between this and the Pixel 6/6pro.

Agree we want to know how good the phone can perform or at least both (how good and how bad), not purely focusing on how bad it can do which is almost 90 percent of what the other so called reviewers do. (Mkbhd, phonearena)

Excellent video man, I enjoy your content as always. I'm going to wait for the Xperia 1 IV though, obviously with the ongoing pandemic it looks like 2022 will be a return to normal? I'd rather have a new phone to go abroad with, right now I can't so a year wait is enough for me! Also, 4K Selfie camera apparently for the IV so ill definitely wait :)

Would love to hear more about day-to-day battery life on the 1iii. As a 1ii owner, my biggest gripe is that I consistently have to charge it again by 5pm.

@@farishanafiah8461 It's not really effective at all. Lower resolution only means the SoC is rendering the contents in a specified resolution, but the screen still has to push those 3840x1644 pixels since the panel is not really turning off any pixel to achieve the lower resolution. In this case, Sony already automatically renders contents in 1080p only, and then upscales them to near 4K using X-Reality Engine for mobile. The best way to achieve better battery life is to use lower brightness if possible, or you may just want to use the H.S. power control feature as much as you can so that you'll no longer have to worry about having a dead battery most of the time.

how would you say your 1 ii still fares network wise and everyday use considering lack of 5G? (Unless you don't live in the US where it's not an issue). I'm thinking of upgrading to either 1ii or 1iii but I figure 4G LTE will still be around for a very long time so not necessary to upgrade to 5G just yet? so it would be nice to buy the 5ii at a discounted price and save some cash but the 1iii also looks appealing (not a fan of the frosted back though, liking the gloss). Also, does the 1ii also run hot for you like the 1iii does?

Thanks for the vid Juan. For me and i guess most people a one year upgrade is never a consideration. It would be great to see some videos comparing these new devices with 2, 3 or 4 year old devices too as they are more likely to be the phones people are considering upgrading from and therefore drawing comparisons with. I'm kinda puzzled why KZfaqrs don't do this.

Xperia 1 iii is a great device. To put this into context I typically churn through smartphones once per twice a year. If you are interested in the iii, the were one or two little things that bothered me. - I didn't like the camera experience - the amp is a bit underpowered - I don't like the haptics. - the sim card tray thing is so annoying. The v60 has a better amp and can drive all my headphones. It also has amazing battery life but I have quite a few software bugs, glossy back is very annoying and I miss 120hz. I will never be happy...

I love the black glossy design sony has on the 1 ii and was bummed when the LG got rid of it from the v60 after having it on the V50 and went for only blue and white. Anyway, since LG left the smartphone game for good, the lack of software updates and security patches are concerning for me which is why i was considering switching to the sony again since i've always been an Xperia fan myself and have had a couple of them before (and headphone port and expandable storage is a must for me) Also i can relate to that never being happy bit lol

What is the game you are playing, it looks really nice. Been using Xperia 5 for a year, lately m having a lot of heating issue. It gets up to 42°C really hot. Does Xperia 1ii & 1iii too have these issues?? But I am in love with 1iii.

If Side Sense settings are the same as the Mark II there should be an option to increase the activation bar size so it isn't an issue either

Is it worth upgrading over the original X1 ? My two biggest issues with the X1 were screen brightness and battery. Now I know on the X1 iii those aren't the phones strongest areas but are they better than the X1 and if so how much better ?

kudos kudos kudos! i upgraded to 1ii from z5 premium... so it makes sense i should upgrade later... but that frosted back, 4k 120hz display, better audio and camera setup... i do not know... but i also realized that i felt similar when xz premium was out, but i still have the z5 premium... and that is not even an immediate generation to z5 premium (unless we are just talking about the premium series)... so i really should not buy yet... right? anyway, i will just put it under "consideration"... the temptation is still under control... 😅

Hi Juan. Have they actually improved the selfie camera? I really don't care about it other for when I send some occasionally snaps. But the Mark 2 was so awful that my S9+ got to stay and the Mark 2 went back. I couldn't believe my eyes since Sony is so good with cameras. I think my old HTC Desire had a better selfie cam 🙈.

@@avenuePad the camera really Just needs a night mode and video needs some basic features like tap to auto focus(basic/pro) and Automatic iso in the pro video. Which most of this can be done using software.

In Russia we got 1mk2 early, and with 5g capability. But it's single sim only, no dual sim at all (sony had doubts about having 5g with dual sim, I guess). So I am definitely upgrading my 1mk2. I've already made pre-order, waiting for it shipping somewhere in July.

Hello, about the screen, the guys from GSM arena claim to have confirmed with Sony that the screen is 1080p 120hz, and that 4k activates in certain apps. And when it does it's capped at 60hz. Can you confirm this please since you have the phone and probably there is an app that shows the Hz and res over any app. Thank you.

I'd prefer the 5 iii, but I feel more comfortable having wireless charging & I need as much storage, as possible. If the 5 iii was going to be under $1000, I might feel differently.

@@bipbop3121 it too has an sd card support upto 1 tb. Just saw it on Sony's website. Plus the highest internal memory is 256gb, so you'll be fine. But wireless charging is missing, and if you're using a phone for 3 or more years, you'll definitely need it

It's a shame, I was going for the mark3 for that amazing display and variable lens. But, I'm also a very heavy user and game a lot. Overheating/thermal throttling is the last thing I want in my phone. Guess I gotta wait for the markIV then.

Same here except for the back coating that comes off. Sad about the price though only $1300. If it was $1500+, I would go for it. Don't want a phone that's in the price range of shit phones like 12Pro max and S21u

Sony dual shock and Sony mount. It works OK. Uses a suction cup though, so it won't work with all cases.

I wanted the 1 mark 2 but the budget didn't allow it. I would love if sony drops the price on their phones although they so provide the moat unique and interesting device on the market. Still the price tag is high

Not sure about that... AT&T has been only letting whitelisted phones use its Voice over LTE so I'd say contact AT&T to see or wait for someone online to try it.

So my phone contract runs out in exactly 2 weeks, i still have the Xperia 1 (mk1) when would the next Sony potentially release? Half a year? More? Where does one look out for information and updates such as these the best? Thanks for advice:)

I would imagine next year would probably look like the last two. Early announcements, but later shipping. XPERIA in the USA are just NOW shipping out to folks who pre-ordered, so I would guess that next year's XPERIA would probably ship in roughly the same time frame. About a year from now.

I own a Galaxy S8+ and after four years, I bought a "new" battery off eBay and installed it myself, convincing myself that I would not buy another phone at least for another 2 to 3 years. Boy was I wrong. CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON AN XPERIA 1 III!!!!!!!!!!!

The only major problem with the Xperia 1 is the battery life. The 3200mAh battery doesn't fare too well after two years. Mine has about 2600mAh left.

well, I couldn't buy the 1 II, because it lacked my bands. Even if you can afford it, I definitely don't advocate 1 year updating, regardless of improvements. Due to failures, I spent 5 years getting a "new" phone every year and even though they were "covered by warranty" it would have been much nicer to not have failed phones.

To be honest, I was in a 2 year contract with my Xperia 1. Just got the Xperia 1 III and it's hardly a step up at all even from that. The zoom is clearer... Kind of.. but the overall quality of the picture actually seems lower when you examine further. Maybe this is a software thing though rather than hardware, and could be fixed in an update. Speakers are soooo much better than the Xperia 1 though 😄 Even with 120hz settings off, the battery life is much worse than the Xperia 1 though too. The screen on the Xperia 1 III is also slightly duller than the Xperia 1

@@miroslavsuliman I haven't gone into any heavy/long usage of the camera yet. Only quality tests so far. I remember my Xperia 1 would do the same sometimes, but they fixed it with a software update so maybe they will for the Xperia 1 III too now that it's in public circulation

I wouldn't lean on any of my testing, as the unit wasn't a retail phone. I don't know that the software will improve over pre-release embargo units, but I don't think that's a fair way to test.

On a PC monitor or a TV, I'd say yes. But on a small smartphone screen? It's really hard to tell the difference between high DPI 4K and high DPI QHD.

I have a Xperia 1 I can't sell for only $350. My question is isn't the display the same on all these. Besides the 120hz I mean. Is the screen any better on the 1ii or 1iii ??? Oh and I'm watching this on a V50.

The screen got fast on the ii and got brighter on the iii. They are improving, but it's not DRAMATIC changes since the resolution is the big hook.

Ehh Sony has a preference for photography that the sd 888 isp just doesn't favour. The vibrant flat Samsung photos work better with it. I recon Sony & others can only really shine once the sd895 arrives. That's why the one plus 9 hesselblad look flopped aswell , great vision but the 888 just couldn't execute it well enough.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M sadly yes, the software and colour tuning is great when its great but the physical camera & isp don't allow it to be a versatile experience yet, it still needs near perfect conditions to produced these ' slightly extra nice' photos ... All phones produce great photos in ideal conditions though so the hasselblad tuning just feels like a mini filter... With the sd 895 tho it can surely extend that hasselblad look to average(non ideal) conditions and then actually wow people :)

Great video! I’m worried that Sony is falling behind camera wise. I want them to succeed so bad! Hoping that phones with larger camera sensors like the Sharp aquos r6 will enter the mainstream.

Nah we should stop watching the spec alone. There is a Japanese channel comparing Xperia 1 iii, R6 and Samsung. R6 photo colour are off in almost every daylight photo, photo taking speed is bad also. The only one it good at is lowlight which provide brighter image but you have to have very steady hand, without tripod or steady hand, R6 takes blurred photos in lowlight base on the channel

IMO they didn’t do enough for me to care. Great phone, but the image quality is still “meh” and they didn’t bother whatsoever to update the selfie camera which is a huge shame, and I personally think the Google assistant button is a con, not a pro. The biggest additions to me were the better network support+5G, and better battery life.

I don't think there has been a phone that has justified the one year upgrade in the past five years. Of course the dumpster fires of phones being exceptions.
