love it! the XR650R is a great bike!

I have the exact same bike, same year. Neighbor had it stored in his machine shed, warm building year around. Sold it to me for $2500 in 2008. Had less than 500 miles on it. Has around 1000 now. Finally getting time in my life to ride it. Been jetted and exhaust opened up. Runs like a Bitched 🐖. Will never part ways with it. Starts on 1st or 2nd kick every time. If you can get one of these you'll never regret it. Congrats on your find. You are one lucky dude.

I had a 2002 with the mods you mentioned also I drilled the center out of the muffler tip and let me tell you that bike was fast. It's lite and nimble. They're keepers.

I'd poop myself to land one of those. Or a good deal like that. Those were great bikes.... and that think looks great on the surface. congrats on landing that one.

When you change the oil, I think it takes 1.8 quarts, you have to add 1 quart and then run it for 30 seconds before adding the rest. If you try to add the full amount without doing this it will overflow onto the ground, as the frame will not take the full amount. Great bike, I had one that was the exact same year and everything. The chain tension adjuster bolts had frozen up in my swingarm and I broke them off trying to get them out, so be careful on those and grease them up as the swingers allows water to get in it. Just add some bar risers and you are good to go. I look forward to seeing some videos on this bike. Congratulations!

First bike I ever bought new was a 2001 XR650R from Steadmans for $3995.. They were leftovers in 2003. Wore it out and Bought another one!! Love those bikes but I'm getting a little old to ride Gorillas :)

Nice find. They are hard to find here in Australia and quite rare. It would be interesting to do a comparison with the KLX470. As you are regarded as the suspension Guru, quick question regarding the DRZ400E. I am 90Kg and upgraded the fork and shock springs as per the racetech website but did not do the revalving. Is this recommended? Secondly I find when corning on gravel roads that the front is prone to washing out. Currently running MT21 front and D606 rear. Any recommendations on rebound and compression settings? BTW everride needs your help to build black widow 2.
