This post contains an initial review and setup instructions for the xTool M1, a laser and blade cutting machine that's capable of cutting materials such as wood, opaque acrylic, fabric, leather, vinyl, cardstock and more. It can engrave and score on those materials too, plus it can engrave on metal, glass and more.

I added a laser to my home in February, primarily for cutting fabric, but it's wonderful to engrave and cut cardstock. Entertain the idea reworking some of your layered designs for the laser engraving! I could see some fun projects

hi - I'm not able to cut with 3mm basswood with the standard settings. in fact, I see a small flame as it etches the wood. did you change the light setting? any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

Is it quiet? Is it louder than a laser printer, for example?

I didn't really notice the noise of the laser cutter over the sound of the extractor box; that's quite loud, especially on the higher settings - on par with a portable air conditioner or standing fan.
