One of the best reviews of the M1 out there! You covered a lot more than most in 20min than other comparable videos. Also you did shed some blood for the cause 😂. I agree that the rotary standoffs are a joke.

Good review. It's great to see you have gotten into other systems besides 3D printers, and fun to see. I only have the room and patience for one type and that is FDM printing, but is interesting to see the others.

Yeah, this is a very unique item. Love that it does both, laser engraving, and has a blade cutter. It worked as advertised. It is just the rotary part, it is a lot of work to set it up. Then trying to line up everything is a challenge. It is a keeper!

How fine a detail can you cut in materials like the vinyl sheets with the cutter blade? Could you, for example, cut a design made 0.2 mm wide strips (i.e pin striping) curves of vinyl? or very small and intricate vinyl mask stencil for airbrushing with this?

Nice video! One question: Can the M1 also be used to engrave ABS plastics, which are often used for device surfaces (e.g. these white power supply units from Apple)?

Does your camera image distort slightly when objects are placed towards the front of the M1 (so furthest away from the camera). Little fustrating as it hard to align multiple items!

Hi, I’m interested in buying an xTool M1, so I just watched your video review which was really useful, thank you. I just wondered if you could help clarify something? The M1 spec states a 385x300mm (15x12 inch) working area, but is that the max size of the material sheet BEFORE cutting or just the max size of the cutting area? For example, can I insert a sheet of 8mm MDF into the unit that is say 400x310mm and then design a shape to cut inside the 385x300 working area? The reason I ask is that the shape I need to produce could be 300x300mm so it would be nice to be able to rough cut a slightly larger sheet to then make sure the finished shape can be cut out allowing for a small border. Hope that makes sense?

I came here looking for the same answer. Looking at doing a cutting board that is larger in size at 16" but would still make the image smaller than the 15". Did you have any luck on getting your answer anywhere?

Thats great it can cut mdf but can it engrave and cut on the same piece? i want to engrave a name and then cut out a border

Since the bottom is removable, can you place it directly on a larger surface like a table top and engrave the surface? Basically would the laser reach low enough?

Very good question! I might need to test this. Since the M1 has auto focus, I would need to remove the bottom plate and see if it can lower the laser on it's own.

@@TripodsGarage that would be awesome. I’m really curious because if it can then it opens this machine up to a whole bunch of different possibilities. If it can, I wonder if you could use the internal camera to engrave a very long piece by cutting the design into segments and using the camera and software to line up the previous engraving and then sliding the piece down (or the machine) to continue the next segment. It’s hard to explain what I’m thinking but I think you will get the idea.
