What's the reasoning we should use when determining Power & Speed # 1 of passes? Why not put it on full blast ? Does it lead to burns or the laser to blow out? I'm exaggerating, and I'm testing it in increments to learn by testing. But ...what's the typical rational for it? Does wood prefer less power or more power? Does the laser or the engravement get affected? Thank you for your videos!

Using more power can cause certain woods to char more, while other cause the sap or resin to be sticky near the engraved area. Unfortunately test runs are necessary for most projects but once you lean the types of woods it will become second nature.

I typically keep my lpcm at 100. If my logo or image has a lot of detail I may go up to 200 lpcm .

How do you control the smoke with the bottom plate off, and the risers underneath?

Large projects that produce a lot of smoke, you will need to place the machine outside or in a well ventilated area. Keeping it in a small room will definitely make it smell like a fire hazard. If I use it in a room I also run a large fan to draw out the smoke too.

Are we supposed to clamp the wood? I did a two test runs with the supplied samples. The basswood was warped and it moved and I burned the bottom (only on the second test run. So I had one good result from it before the fail, and then I used my own supplies of heavier items and nothing moved)

Air assist can cause projects to move so I would either tape them down or have weight magnet clamps.

Hi, with the bottom being able to take off, do the m1 have a passthrough feature as glowforge? Want to know as much before grabbing one

It does not have that feature as the glow forge. Glow forge is a 40w compared to this 10w. If you’re looking to engrave a larger area than 15x12 then you may want a glow forge.

There is the xtool laser box which looks just like the glow forge and then there is the muse which is wayyyyy better than the glowforge

Do you use, or have you used, the open plane setting when the bottom tray is removed? I cant seem to get the laser parameters right when trying to engrave something that requires the removal of the tray.

Yes open plane will need to be used. I’m going to do an updated video about this.

@@coleminorkustoms8594 hello! I love your video. My question is this. You recommend testing first, but if I don’t have scrap of the same type of wood and thickness as let’s say a cutting board, what would you recommend. Thank you!

@@lisahopson what I do is I go to my local cabinet or wood shop and ask for scraps. Most of the time they are willing to give it away so they don’t have to dispose of it. If you’re able to find a shop it will save you a lot of money. Hope this helps.
