GRRR ... the real F-104s weren't difficult to fly without crashing them. A lot of them crashed, but in the case of the German Air Force and Navy (which is what seems to come to everyone's mind despite the fact that the Canadians actually had a higher loss rate), the number of crashes decreased dramatically once changes started being made that did *NOTHING* to change the aerodynamics of the aircraft, like getting the maintenance folks better trained and then retained once trained.

I kind of got the idea that it was less twitchy once the first 3 minutes fuel had burned off, then it really got its teeth in.

Yep, it's wingspan is short.

The presence of anhedral (AKA negative dihedral) does not automatically make an aircraft "unstable" as its use on any number of aircraft clearly indicates. For example, the A-7; A-8; B-47; B-52; C-141; C-5; C-17; Mitsubishi F-1; and Dassault F-1, Alphajet, and Falcon all have anhedral on their main wings or horizontal stabilizer and none have never been called "unstable" as a result. Anhedral and dihedral are tools for an aircraft designer to control its behavior. In the case of the F-104, the anhedral was added to change its behavior during a turn when its tail, which is large relative to its wings, would cause excess roll. It's *A Good Thing* to keep in mind that the F-104 was designed by Kelly Johnson and Company, all well respected aircraft designers who damn well knew what they were doing (if not the best damn aircraft designers on the planet at the time), and they were not interested in creating an aircraft that was "unstable". So while the video does show excellent piloting skills, to the extent that the model imitates the real thing, it is *NOT* "unstable" because of its anhedral.

My childhood buddy loved this aircraft when we were, maybe, eight or nine years old. He had built a squadron of eight F-104s and had them mounted on his ceiling as if proceeding with a mission. The things we remember.

Pilots are sleek and smart as their life style. Cruze, was made in for the role.
