Neil's full interview on The Hour. The full web-exclusive "bonus" portion of the interview with Neil going over Moving Pictures track by track is already up but only a 4 minute clip of the main broadcast interview has been posted. Here's the full 20 minutes. The last 4 minutes is the musical guest, I was just too lazy to edit it out. Enjoy!

Have adored and worshipped this man for years. Rush is my all time favourite band. They are simply perfect musicians and it is truly stunning they are such amazing humans as well. Rush and Neil Peart makes one believe in the goodness of life, they prove that is possible to live a full life without being bitter and cynical by the end of it. Totally stunned we lost Neil so quickly, without warning. Hiding his condition from his adoring fans is as classic a Neil Peart move as ever existed, he couldn't ever pretend a stranger was a long awaited friend. This feels like I lost a family member. Every single day I waste from now on, I fail my hero Neil Peart. Thank you Rush. Thank you, Professor Neil Peart. There will never be another you - a heartbroken fan from India.

I've watched this interview at least a half a dozen times and loved listening to The Professor teach stuff (reference to the Guardians of the Galaxy's Yondu) and I've always thought Neil's voice would be here forever. After Rush's retirement in 2015 I thought we'd have a few more books with some, hopefully, interviews on the tour much like Geddy's for his "Book of Bass". However, this week that hope was quashed forever. The eloquence and purity of that voice has been silenced with the passing of Neil Ellwood Peart. I know Neil wouldn't have wanted this, but I've been crying off and on for the days following the announcement Neil had passed. I think in the end that's a credit to the man Neil was. Insanely human and humble he was that part of my life I always depended on for that humility. I know Neil has left his voice within the lyrics Geddy Lee sung, and I know we'll have Rush's music forever, but that human part of me wanted that unmistakable voice of the Professor who continued to teach through his love of life. I know Alex and Geddy are still with us, hopefully for at least decades to come, but Neil's loss is still too near and dear. Losing David Bowie was hard, but even he said he was surprised he lived that long considering his drug use in the late 60s, early 70s. When he passed it was a shock, but not surprising. This, however, came out of left field. This was unexpected and I'll always remember where I was when the news came that Neil Peart, the best drummer and lyricist to have ever lived, has died. I won't say goodbye Neil. I'll say you're living somewhere beyond that lighted stage. Though not corporeal, still teaching us stuff about life...and death. Thank you Neil. Thank you for just being you.

I was just watching Limelight before this. Looked like he was in his mid 20's. I was a drummer in my teens and early 20's and he was the gold standard on what drummer's aspired to play like. He was the best drummer of my generation. God I miss this guy.

Neil was the Man...unmatched behind his drum kit. His lyrical talent was amazing. This is a man who rebuilt his life after losing his family...this took tremendous courage. We are fortunate to have experienced his great talent. He left us way too soon and will be missed. His work is done here and now he can rest. His music allowed us all to enjoy life more because of him. A legacy very well earned.

Neil Peart may be the most influential drummer of all time. I know many will argue the point, but that guy changed the way thousands of musicians and drummers approached music and drumming. Yes, Moon, Bonham, and many others had influence, but for me Peart's style transcended anything before that era. He was a new precedent that thousands aspired to, self included.

As a guitarist, but not much of a prog rock guy, I never dove into the Rush rabbit hole. I admired Neil Peart for his individualism and unwillingness to be part of the "star" game. This is the first time I've ever heard him interviewed. I have to say my admiration has multiplied three fold. What a wonderful human being and, as noted by others, a fantastic conversationalist. i grew up in Pt.Dalhousie.. same age..same time period.. went to same school with Neil..followed him around in the local bands he was in(The Majority,Jr Flood Doc Savage,Starlord etc).. and later on became a drummer myself and we were both drummers in different bands ( but known to each other).. hung out some at Tasty Treat..downing burgers and cokes and talking music for hours on end...Neil then in 1974 got in with Starlord (local band) and THEN quit to go to Toronto to get in with some band called "Rush"..a friend replaced him in 1975.. and i replaced the friend for a short period when he broke his arm... as i did also replace Neil in Doc Savage when he left them too in 1969... and later in 1973,i replaced him in an act called Westfauster .... seemed as if i was constantly following him when he left something... BUT.. i knew the man.. and hold dear ALL those memories....because sometimes, fond memories is ALL that remains.. and the only things that last as time keeps slipping through our fingers.. as well as those who are gone.. and those who remain

*6 Rush songs whose lyrics of Neil Peart move me to tears* *Afterimage* - Written about the death of Robbie Whelan, the sound engineer for the Permanent Waves album. The lyric that gets me: _Suddenly, you were gone From all the lives you left your mark upon_ *Red Sector A* - Written about the atrocity of Geddy's parents in Nazi concentration camps. The lyric that gets me: _I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate Are the liberators here, do I hope or do I fear? For my father and my brother, it's too late But I must help my mother stand up straight_ *Losing It* - Written about those who've had a talent or skill, and have lost it...leaving them heartbroken. The lyric that gets me: _Thirty years ago, how the words would flow With passion and precision But now his mind is dark and dulled By sickness and indecision And he stares out the kitchen door Where the sun will rise no more_ *Nobody's Hero* - Written about the death of a gay friend to either Neil or Geddy(unsure), and of the death of girl who grew up in Geddy's childhood neighborhood. The lyric that gets me: _As the years went by, we drifted apart When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart But he's nobody's...Hero_ *Ghost Rider*- Written about Neil's travels trying to overcome the sudden deaths of his daughter and first wife. The lyric that gets me: _Pack up all those phantoms Shoulder that invisible load Keep on riding north and west Haunting that wilderness road Like a ghost rider_ *The Garden* - Neil's swan song. The last song, of the last album Rush ever recorded. The lyric that gets me: _The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect So hard to earn, so easily burned In the fullness of time A garden to nurture and protect_ I am devastated by the loss of a musician whose lyrics have been with me since I was 13. I am now 45, and in tears. #RIPNeilPeart #neilpeart #Rush

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

My favorite Neil interview. So foretelling. Crazy how he genuinely rejoices making it to 58, but now we all know 68, sadly, wasn't in the "bones". Also interesting how clearly he recognizes that he and his band mates are truly in their prime at this moment. As one of many Rush fans who has seen many tours since the 80s, and knowing this interview was during or shortly after Time Machine, you can't help but recognize that Rush truly was very "prime" in 2010/2011, and that they truly went out on high note in 2015 (while quite effectively masking much physical pain that comes with age and giving your everything to your fans for 4+ decades). Anyhow, you just can't help but admire and love Neil's ability to display incredibly accurate self-awareness and beautiful modesty all at the same time. With SO much going on in that huge brain of his, you'd think he'd slip up from time to time, and you'd be happy to forgive him, but no need with Neil - just the most cordial and regular guy, who just happens to be a genius, that you could ever meet. Truly a life more than worthy of celebrating into eternity.
