Why use sugar or artificial sweeteners at all. BTW if your conspiracy theory revolve around big industry...the artificial sweetener industry is expected to increase by 10.4 billion dollars between 2024 and 2029. The unregulated supplement industry sales in 2021 were 160 billion. I guess the pot is calling the kettle black.

In fact, they have been key in helping prevent medical issues for me bc I don't have a colon and am prone to intestinal blockages, and consuming these have helped prevent them from occurring so frequently, as it helps the food move along. Xylitol gym also has helped my digestion, chronic dry mouth, and cavity prevention, as well as helping my tmj bc it prevents me from grinding and clenching my jaw/teeth. @@jtsra7 listerine destroys the good and bad bacteria in the mouth, destroying the natural mouth and gum flora that protect your teeth and help prevent plaque. listerine also destroys the bacteria that converts certain foods to nitric oxide (NO) a signal molecule and a vassal dilator. thus contributing to high bp. I stopped using listerine, after reading Dr Nathan S Bryan book "functional nitric oxide nutrition" and since stopping listerine now I am waking up like a 13 yo teen, every morning and I am 52. Dr Bryan was part of the team that discovered the little blue pill side effects (I do not use) but same principal that a vassal dilator will fix many things associated with old age when in reality it is NO deficiency. Remember 200 years + people didn't know what caused scurvy. here we are again. nutrient deficiency causing a range of disease or disfunction easily cured with proper diet, little exercise. I no longer take BP meds either even my doc was surprised and recommended I not take bp meds and have been off them for 5 months now.

I am in early 50s, I was experiencing heart palpitations while just going on simple walks. While I am naturally slender, I have high blood pressure (thanks to extreme Atkins diet 10 years ago) and I kept going to a doctor trying to figure out what was causing the heart palpitations I have OCD where I would just keep popping xylitol gum whenever I was stressed, like I would need that "crunch" of the gum shell, spit out, pop another one, pretty much unaware I was doing it (once I realized, I would stop) . I could easily go through 25+ pieces of gum in an hour and half (so like +/- 30 grams) After trying many things to change diet / etc to see if I could affect the heart palpitations, I researched everything I was daily using, and found out about xylitol side effects. I stopped chewing all xylitol gum altogether, and the palpitations are now gone and have not come back (even when Im stressed!), no other real diet or lifestyle changes . So for me, I was definitely seeing a cause and effect with over-consuming xylitol. The other people in my household do not over consume xylitol (just a few pieces all day), and they obviously do not have the problem I had

I stopped using both xylitol and erythritol as sweeteners years ago, because I developed violent physical reactions to both. Using erythritol to sweeten my tea started okay, then quickly changed to extreme, watery, bowel dumping, then progressed frighteningly to a more powerful whole body reaction, similar to having swallowed poison. I stopped using erythritol immediately. Again, using erythritol started off okay, then very quickly my body could no longer tolerate it. Almost a year after I stopped using erythritol, the study you cite appeared warning of its dangers. I had stopped trying to use xylitol as a sweetener a couple of decades ago for similar reasons. Now, I avoid them both. But, that’s just me. I’ve not read of others having similar violent reactions to either sweetener. Thank you for the information.

Why aren't you discussing where the Xylitol is derived from? Some xylitol is derived from corn others are derived from birch would which is grain free? Please clarify the difference. The substances that foods are derived from does matter in my opinion.
@foxmulder7616
@foxmulder7616 15 күн бұрын
I agree.. but for the sake of birch trees I'd rather have corn xylitol.. maybe just organic/heirloom corn xylitol lol. Unless they're just tapping birch trees in the spring, and using the small amounts of sap from each tree, which wouldnt kill the trees, but I doubt they're doing that.
@OrlyStudios

Birch and corn derived xylitol are both the exact same molecule, with negligible impurities for food grade xylitol. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference even with the equipment to do so.
@thisisbriannaandrea
@thisisbriannaandrea 15 күн бұрын
It matters in the sense of the amount of impurities you may find from the source. However a xylitol molecule is the same regardless of source. If the structure was different, it wouldn't be xylitol any more. Given that it is food grade, impurities will be negligible if not absent.
@lavellnutrition
@lavellnutrition 15 күн бұрын
@@OrlyStudios As a Celiac and knowing that only 20PPM is all the impurity it takes to make me sick for up to 6 months I can not risk it being derived from corn. Corn in NOT gluten free. It contains a protein called Zein and it's not uncommon for Celiacs to react even worse to corn than wheat even, it's just that they don't test for reactions to Zein, just the wheat protein called gliadin. Sad but true.
@OrlyStudios
@OrlyStudios 15 күн бұрын
@@lavellnutrition the cheapest way to refine xylitol involves the use of hydrolysis which would destroy any proteins (which zein is). It's then further refined using chromatography to separate the xylitol from the denatured impurities. Even if there are a significant number of impurities, though, it would be in the form of free amino acids, not zein.

I might have come to the opposite conclusion, if the body produces more of it to get rid of excess glucose--wouldn't it be more like a possible supplement? Maybe.. I personally don't like it because of digestion issues and the after taste reminds me of mint. Probably why its perfect for gum and toothpaste.

I use a lot of xylitol to sweeten my drinks so I’m a bit worried. I wish there was a REAL study

don't be worried, but the only two real known negatives of xylitol is, as long as you consume it and have a sugar addiction, you can't kick the desire for sugar. the other is high levels of any artificial sweetener could in patients with kidney issues complicate those issues, but even that study didn't take into effect xylitol being used to completely substitute for all sugars so in that case it could be inferred the negative wouldn't be enough to be concerned about.

I’ve been consuming Xylitol for at least 15 yrs consistently in my toothpaste, at the very least. Zero issues. I’m metabolically healthy in general. When I first saw this new study my BS meter went off. “Trust the science”, everyone. 🙄 At a minimum, Xylitol is excellent for dental health & IMO that is such small application in one’s daily life.

exactly talk to any cancer doc worth their weight in salt, and they will explain to help fight cancer cut carbs. xylitol doesn't uptake like sugar or other sugar substitutes and the body mostly excretes it, the only known side effect is persons consuming a lot, possibly could get urinary track infection due to the elevated amount of sugars being excreted, but the odd part about that is, normally good bacteria that is body friendly only enjoys the benefits of xylitol where as many of the bad bacteria lose the battle for resources and eventually significantly decrease in population to the point the flora in the mouth gut and other areas reach a proper homeostasis thus being able to perform their role in protection and repair in those perspective areas

Since I started using xylitol nicotine mints, I have not had a toothache, my cavities have hardened up… I am 56 years old, and am not kidding. I tried many things… oil pulling, baking soda, clove oil, iodine…their affects are negligible. This actually solved more problems than I ever expected, or would have believed.
