Agree about Duncan and McHale. Olajuwon and McHale are possibly the best post players ever. The best I’ve ever seen. Those 2 had so many sick moves. The “Dream Shake” and the “Black Hole” (McHale). Kevins career shooting % has to be high. That fade away jumper from 10-15 ft was straight 💰

The first I time I saw Julius Erving was 1970 when UMass played Penn. The Quakers had Corky Calhoun, a 6-7 big guard who was a defensive specialist, who Julius just ate up and spit out even though Penn won at the Palestra. Then, in college at Philadelphia Textile a fellow gym rat told me he had seen Julius from playing at the Rucker playground in Harlem and called him best ever. We would take road trips while in college to see him in Virginia as a Squire or in New York as a Net. The most exciting day of my life as a basketball fan was the day the Sixers signed him. I named a dog I rescued “Dr. J.” because he jumped up and down 2-3 feet whenever he saw me. Class, all the way.

someone inform you that the Celtics were playing Philly in the conference finals before those final meetings back in the 60s

@@gary6754 Did McHale say "Celtics/Nationals" or did he say "Celtics/6ers"? Is Syracuse in Pennsylvania? The Nationals didn't even become the 76ers until the 1964 season. The 76ers and Celtics didn't meet in the playoffs until 1965. By that point, the Lakers and Celtics already had a bonafide rivalry. "Before those final meetings back in the 60's". Oh, really? Between 1947 and 1959, there was only _one_ meeting in the playoffs between a Philly team and Boston (1958). That does not constitute a rivalry. Boston _did_ have a playoff rivalry with Philadelphia between 1958 and 1962. The Philadelphia... _Warriors_ .

I think he is talking about what happened within his own career but feel free to send him a letter to inform him just in case he didn't know. I am sure a student of the game, such as yourself, can teach him much.

@@ravilcn You think? That's a big step for you, chief. Slow it down, buddy. You don't wanna give yourself a headache from using your frontal lobe too much after its very recent activation. McHale doesn't specify that he's referring to his own career, now does he. Let's grant you that assumption being correct, though. It was Celtics/Lakers by 1985. As far as McHale's career is concerned, it wasn't Celtics/6ers until 1982. "Long before"? Nope.

@@bubufubu see you are one of those guys that is too literal and annoys everyone around you. I am sure you have very few friends and your wife left you long ago. Yet you still have no idea why. You are that clueless. The sad thing is that I know everything I said is true. I'm not wrong about what I just said about you and I know it, lol. It is that obvious. McHale does not have to specify anything for you since you are an idiot. Everybody else knows exactly what he is talking about except for you. Remove that pipe you have been sitting on your entire life and you just might be a normal member of society. Nah, people like you never get it and wonder why nobody wants much to do with them.

Shame how many of the youngins dont know how incredibly amazing Dr J was. The man had like a 50 inch vertical and was just dominant. As much as I fucking hated, and I mean HATED the Celtics... McHale was no pushover. That white boy could play man. Lot of players hated going against him.

In ’87 while visiting Boston I was sitting in a small local tap room looking at a picture of Larry Bird, and the bar tender leaned over and said ….. “da gratest basketball playa’ that eva lived!” I just looked up at him and said “The Doc!” He looked back at me and said …..”um, okay!……you must be from Philly!” Then he asked me about Marvin Hagler. I told him I saw him get beat by a Philly fighter named Bobby Boogaloo Watts. Then the guy sitting next to me turns and says he fought Bobby Watts! Then all three of us said we had seen Julius in college too! Well, he was the owner, so the bar tender, the old boxer and I drank all night talking about basketball and Julius Erving……in Boston! It was one of the best nights in my life, talking basketball to other fans of the Doc…… free beer too! Philly fans are a lot like Boston fans; we have one thing in common, a hatred for New York sports teams
