But he's also relying on the fact that his opponent doesn't know his win con. Lets say somehow this monstrosity makes it to day 2 at a premiere event. At that point all decks become known and with a deck like his the entire room will know that a yajiro loop has topped. So his opponents with knowledge about his win-con can just scoop instantly if they see him establish the loop game 1. So there is no advantage.

The math while not obvious how to do it isn’t that hard if you know how since everything is guaranteed I’m pretty sure the reason he actually did the math though is because his takeaway was that he was be too general when creating his loop so he wanted to super specific so that his deck wouldn’t be an issue
@Crawver

@@jamismiscreant7514 Yeah, after watching it, I get the feeling he legitimately thought he was doing what was asked of him. The issue was he was told he can't just call "every monster in the game thrice", as well as a specific number of times he's calling the loop, so he added a way to avoid doing that being a problem, and used a SD calculation to show how this was effectively a garunteed thing. He actually did what he was specifically asked, while missing the point of what he was asked. I get the feeling he might be autistic, because the picking of a repetitive and specific complex loop, choosing to do the calculations, while also doing the letter of what he was asked but not the spirit is something that autistic people often do. This seems very reminiscent of a Magic: the Gathering deck called "The Four Horsemen". Basically, that deck performs a non-deterministic loop a bunch of times, hoping to get a specific sequence of cards in a randomly shuffled deck. Statistically, it should happen eventually. But because it is theoretically possible the sequence will never happen, the player _has_ to play it out. And since you're not advancing towards a win condition, you're just spinning your wheels and hoping you'll hit the jackpot, a judge has to issue you a slow play warning, then game loss. It's a deck outlawed by the tournament rules, despite being a somewhat competent combo deck that could probably be tier 2 if it was possible to play.

I used to play this deck in tourney! My work around it was to advance the board state cautiously each iteration with effects like Narcomoeba and Cabal Therapy until I could play one of three Dread Return to res my singleton Sidisi, Brood Tyrant. This creates a gamestate where the board state advances everytime I loop as I'm making 2/2 Zombies each time I hit a creature (including Emrakul), so I could build a position where all I need to do is hit a second Dread Return+Flamekin Zealot before my Emmy to close out the game. It's only a soft-ban if you're not advancing the gamestate 😎

The head judge initally told him he needed to make the number of loops finite and the AP Statistics did remedy that. Have to give respect where it's due; mans is dedicated to the Yajiro craft.
@phiefer3
@phiefer3 Жыл бұрын
Except that in this case the finite number makes his advanced math useless. No matter how large of a number he repeats it, it will never be guaranteed that he'll see every card in his opponent's deck this way. His argument that the odds of not seeing one of them being some incredibly small doesn't change the fact that it is still not 0, and it does not become 0 unless repeated an infinite number of times, which is not physically possible. Not to mention, seeing his opponent's deck in sets of 3 randomized by a shuffle, is not something that can simply be fast-forwarded, number of cards of his opponent's deck that he gets to see after 40billion (as an example) repeats cannot be determined without actually performing it 40 billion times (it can be estimated, but not determined precisely). If anything, the lullaby version was less problematic, as there is only a finite number of monsters that could possibly be in his opponent's deck and therefore the loop can 100% be predicted and fast-forwarded without issue.
@phiefer3
@phiefer3 Жыл бұрын
@Firewynn And how many times would he need to repeat the loop to do that? An exact number that guarantees that he sees all 47 of them? There isn't one due to the random nature of it. He could see all 47 cards within 16 cycles, or he could potentially go 16 billion cycles and only see 46 of them. And even that example is really only true if all 47 cards are different, otherwise you'd really wouldn't have any way of knowing how many copies of a given card are in the deck unless you got to peek the full playset at once. The issue isn't that it's impossible learn all of the contents of the deck using this loop. The issue is that the loop is non-deterministic. There is no way to know exactly how many times the loop needs to be repeated to achieve the result he wants and therefore it cannot be fast forwarded. The policy on repeatable loops and fast-forwarding specifically only applies to deterministic loops where you can specify the exact number of times to repeat it and accurately know the results of that many repeats.
@phiefer3
@phiefer3 Жыл бұрын
@Firewynn I would put the estimate closer to 1/3 rather than "most." And again, the issue is not that it is impossible to learn the full content of the deck. The issue is that it is impossible to know how many iterations of the loop it will take to do so. There is an official ruling policy on fastforwarding controlled loops, I couldn't find if it is specifically used for regionals/YCS, but I could imagine that something similar would still apply. However, according to this policy you must specify an exact number of iterations of the loop in order to fastforward it (and the loop itself must be deterministic so that you can know the exact resolution of each iteration). It does not matter that after X iterations there's a 99.9999% chance that you'll see every card in the deck, that's not 100%, it's not deterministic. If you want to repeat this loop 30 times manually (and the judges present allow it) then fine, but it cannot be fastforwarded as the person here wanted to do.

I'm not sure why the loop can't consist of the following: 1. Drone him, look at top 3 cards 2. Dark Destructor non-problematic card names 3 times 3. Card Shuffle It would be a pain in the ass to play, since you'd need to do it up to 30 times, so I'm not sure what the ruling would be on DB (probably the exact same if not worse). However, in my understanding, controlled loops need to be deterministic, so the loop this guy used straight-up doesn't follow the game rules unless it's fully played out.

Cause dark designator can only call monster there is a technical Chance that you only see magic and trap cards in the top cards forever and just lose to time/slow play. Yeah, that's the problem I have with the deck. I love Yajiro loops, but this one is not okay to play. In MTG there is actually a deck that is functionally banned because it performs a non-deterministic loop that will eventually burn the opponent out of the game. Because you don't know how many loops it will take though, you aren't allowed to shortcut it, so you get called for slow play if you try to use the deck.

@@chadtrowbridge9412 What deck is this? I haven't heard of it
@chadtrowbridge9412
@chadtrowbridge9412 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShinerCCC It's called the four horsemen deck. It is a non-determinstic FTK deck. The way the deck works is it mills the entire deck out repeatedly. There are creatures that summon themselves when they get milled, and one copy of a creature that shuffles your grave back into the deck when it gets milled. The deck eventually wants to use dread return from grave to reanimate a creature that damages the opponent when a creature dies and a sac outlet so it can sac the creatures that summon themselves, shuffle the grave back into the library, mill itself, sac the creatures, and so on until the opponent dies. The problem is that dread return is a sorcery (spell speed 1 in Yu-Gi-Oh) and thus you have to mill dread return, and the thing you are trying to reanimate, before you mill the card that shuffles the grave back. This isn't guaranteed to have happened by a certain number of loops, so you cannot shortcut the loop typically. In Magic, shuffling the deck is not considered advancing the game state, so you can sometimes end up in a situation where you are milling yourself trying to get the right cards in grave, only to fail and have to try again. Do this enough times and you either run out of time, or get penalized for slow play. It's one of those situations where the deck will theoretically always win with the right hand, but it's a question of how long it will take. Similar to the players math in the video, he gained enough life to theoretically see the opponents entire deck, but he wasn't guaranteed to see it all, thus you can't really shortcut that part of the loop.
@MrZerodaim
@MrZerodaim 2 жыл бұрын
@@chadtrowbridge9412 Thing is, while the 4 Horsemen deck isn't deterministic, the requirements aren't nearly as harsh as they seem. You can mill at instant speed, meaning that if you get a shuffle trigger, you can mill in response and end up with all 4 narcoamoebas out on the first pass. Then it's a question of milling Dread Return + your payoff, before milling an Eldrazi. With the right split, you can get it right pretty regularly, maybe something like 60% chance to go off each attempt. Also, if you use T3feri or Quicken, the 4 Horsemen issue disappears entirely as you can flash Dread Return.
@firespirit8026
@firespirit8026 2 жыл бұрын
Ngl the whole drone + card shuffler situation reminds me of a problem deck in MtG modern called the 4 horsemen deck. It’s only a problem because you will invoke a slow play violation in competitive play due to the inditerministic properties of the deck. Basically you set up an infinite self mill combo with 2 cards. This mills the top card from your deck as many times as you want, but the indeterministic factor of the deck comes in when you need to mill 5-6 specific cards (depending on the version) to create a game winning state before you mill a card that shuffles all the cards from your GY back into your deck. For those who are curious of the actual combo I’ll break it down as simply as I can assuming not everyone understands MtG. First you play a basalt monolith and mesmeric orb. Basalt monolith can generate 3 mana by tapping itself, but by using 3 mana you can untap basalt monolith. Both of these effects are not once per turn so can be done infinitely if so desired Mesmeric orb makes each player mill the top card of their deck if any permanent they control becomes untapped. So now whenever you untap basalt monolith you mill 1 card. Next you loop this mill combo until you mill 3 narcomebas. Narcomebas summon themself from the GY if sent from the deck to the gy. Now it’s worth mentioning why this starts to become indeterministic when milling. In your deck you have a copy of something called a Shuffle Titan in your deck. For those that don’t know, if a Shuffle Titan it put into the GY from anywhere, you shuffle it and all other cards in your GY back into your deck. The next step comes in milling 2 specific cards before you hit your shuffle Titan. You need to mill Dread Return and Syr Konrad. Dread Return let’s you sacrifice (tribute) 3 monsters to cast this card from the GY for free, but exile it (banish) on resolution - this is why you need to mill 3 narcomebas first. When cast, you can reborn 1 monster from your GY. With this you reborn Syr Konrad to set up your winning board state. Whenever a card is put into the GY from anywhere or leaves your GY, Syr Konrad deals 1 damage to each opponent. Now you repeat the mill until you deal enough damage to kill the opponent by milling and shuffling back creatures. And that’s the combo, hopefully the long explanation lets you realize how indeterministic this can be.

Then one could argue that since the loop is set up, he should automatically win. And yes, probability states that given infinite time the combo is a 100% chance to win. But people don't have infinite time and time should, within reason also be a factor to duelling. The fact he can't say whether playing the loop out will take 20 minutes.. Or 20 hours. Is a problem. At least with a sparks loop you can say that after X amount of turns, you will win. No real debate. This deck feels like the Four Horsemen deck from MTG's Legacy format that did something similar, it mills it's entire deck and plays a single card that shuffles the graveyard back into the deck so it can keep repeating it, and the end goal is to get 3 copies of a monster that returns to the field when it gets milled, similar to Wulf, into play and then also mill a card named dread return which tributes 3 monsters to summon another monster back from grave that burns your opponent for one damage every time a monster card is sent to the graveyard or leaves the graveyard.

MTG had a loop that reminds me of this called the Four Horsemen loop. This loop was one that involved having the cards in your deck in a specific order, such that when they are milled you win the game. The loop, however, was performed by milling the deck and shuffling back until the win condition was met. This made the loop deterministic but not guaranteed to occur without using math and statistics. Long story short, tournaments have banned this loop for violating slow play rules since the loop MUST be performed by hand for each iteration until a victory condition is satisfied.

honestly I would almost be siding with Dawnstar here, after the first ruling they did exactly what Marshie asked them, calculating how many time they're doing the loop and removing Lullaby so they doesn't have to declare every monsters. idk I guess I get why it is banned but it's also just a fun interaction with the game and I 100% believe when they say they're doing it for the fun of it and not to troll judges
@TheProgenitor
@TheProgenitor 2 жыл бұрын
Its banned because you cannot simply say "I am no going to do these 3 nested loops an indeterminate amount of times until I see every card in your deck". Yugioh has logic to the card flow and game state, therefore iterations of any loop must be finite, and you cannot skip steps either. In IRL play, when you're under a timer, this means the game would end during the first loop, when you're giving both players "infinite" life. In DB, there is no time limit, so for the execution of this combo to be legal, you would need to take the time to play out every single step. Again, you cannot say "I perform this loop a Google number of times because my statistical analysis said that's how many times I would need to virtually guarantee seeing every card". You need to actually do every single iteration of those Google loops, which means even if you do the entire loop within 1 second, the heat death of the universe would occur before you even got half of them. Because the loop cannot realistically be completed without gentlemaning that those steps occurred, it isnt legal. Not to mention that it's a loop that will get a judge called literally every single time it's achieved, and that alone is enough merit to warrant banning it.
@nate235gaming
@nate235gaming 2 жыл бұрын
Even if Dawnstar is not trying to troll other players or judges the deck itself is a problem, not because its broken or illegal but because it is confusing and wasting time. If two players sit down to play a game of yugioh (who know how to play already) and one player has to explain math to their opponent then its probably not a deck to play in rated. You would get kicked out of a paper tournament for playing this, if time wasn't an issue already. They was warned before to not play the deck by a head judge, and they did it anyways. I think whatever punishment they got is deserved and warranted.

@@TheProgenitor ah yeah I get it, my first thought was that they wouldn't do the loop an indeterminate amount of time because they did the calc, but I'm bad at logic apparently and didn't realized that the maths done was for the average number of time the loop need to be done to see the whole deck (since the deck is shuffled, it is technically possible that he never see the whole decks even if he was doing the loops for ever) so yeah, I understand better (still respect Dawnstar for the hustle tho ahah)

If this was an automated platform like Percy or Master Duel, yajiro loops would be fine. The problem is, dueling book is not an automated platform, so you need to make every single one of those actions manually, slowing the game down to such a ridiculous state that it would take several hours to resolve. This is why the yajiro loops have to be banned in DB. It’s disruptive to the player being victim to it.

This is gonna sound hella sus, and I am clarifying now that I am not in any way affiliated with the blue player. I'm just finding it completely idiotic that Yugioh players/judges have problems with infinite combo wins. There should not be a "right way" of playing the game and enforcing laws against making infinite combo win cons seems just silly. Simply coming up with the concept of an infinite in Yugioh takes so much more skill than copy pasting decks off of deck profiles, and yet there are so many that are being punished for exploiting these interesting win cons. Personally a reason why I refuse to use DB and MD simply because of these enforced rules.

There is no exact number. He calculated a standard deviation. You can argue that the odds are so astronomically low that it's "basically guaranteed", but all your opponent has to say is prove it and you're required to prove it. You're also expected to play at a reasonable speed. I don't know the rules for DB, but in a tournament you have a set timer to play your games. If you can't guarantee your results in that time limit you're out of luck. You can use curry to gain 1 million life because that's a definite loop. You can't say "I flip a coin until I get heads 50 times" because the outcome isn't technically guaranteed within a certain timeframe. The Lullaby version of the loop is technically "more legal" but Dawnstar didn't want to do the work involved there.

Maybe you haven't actually done many in person events but yugioh doers allow infinite loops, you must simply do the loop once then specify the amount of times you will be doing the loop, it is in the policy document. Here’s the issue: there are technically 2 infinite loops. One is all the times he has to use triple Mizuki for Burial, Mooyan, Drone, and Shuffle. That on its own is fine and would be doable after an iteration for the opponent to see exactly how it keeps going. The second is the issue, and it’s Drone naming every card in the game. Technically, every action the player makes with this has a different step and deviation in which card you name. And for a loop to actually be considered “a complete controlled loop”, the entire sequence has to be preformed once in its entirety. So, the opponent would be 100% allowed to say “Okay, the reborn loop is fine. But you’re cannot say ‘name every card a googolplex times’ as you have not named every card in one full loop. So you’re allowed to do the reborn loop until Drone Effect in which case you name a different card. “Please name every card in Yu-gi-oh after each reborn loop in order to make sure the loop will 100% repeat itself and fufill one full iteration.” Not only will slow play 1000% be called and a judge ruling in the opponent’s favor, the loop itself is not a 100% guarantee to win as Dawnstar said. Therefore, PLAY IT OUT is what would be necessary at a tournament. In other words, don’t do this.
