I really like how unrefined and sluggish his fighting style is. Unlike Kiryu, Akiyama, or Saejima who are all experienced to the point they've developed their own styles, Shinada basically fights how a normal person on the street would probably fight.

I think he is the most realistic character in the whole serie.

He is supposed to rely on weapons, that's his entire gimmick. That's why you have an infinite pipe by default and why his Climax Heat moves all revolve around weapons.

If he didn't do those 1000 pushups, sit ups and 5000 swings, his fighting style would be less effective. Just kidding but it Is impressive he wins his fights with that style, especially on people that are experienced fighters

Pros: - Easy Chaining against single enemies - Follow-up Grab deals respectable damage, and can be used for wake-up attacks like Kiryu's Bounding Throw - Better utilization of weapons than the other three PCs combined Cons: - Slow combos that feel sluggish and are easy to punish - Combo damage is... pitiful - Shinada's first weapon is absolutely pathetic in terms of damage output, and making or finding other unbreakable weapons takes a lot of extra grinding

Its super fun to use tho, and honestly hes a beast when you know what your doing. His grab combos are snappy and you can get some sick combos and cancels with him

havent played him yet, but i could feel like a very unrefined style to his attacks. Like its the very definition of "thug" where he just do random stuff and use weapons like a normal thug would be on the street. Heck his moveset feel more "thug" than Majima's thug style, which was quite refined in its own way all thing considered. Though i wish they also gave him a more slugger-like stance like Majima and also encourage players to use weapons with him since many players just skip alot portion of weapons in most Yakuza games simply because "if we can beat the game barefist, why even use weapons?"

At least he gets the sickest katana heat action in the game

i like his fighting style it's more focused on grabbing (kinda like how tanimura is focused on parrying) he may not have a double finishing blow but you can use "My Explosive Finish" which is basically grabbing after a finishing blow.

He does have some jujutsu grappling in his style. He may have trained years ago but got sluggish due to his baseball career. Not much is known about his backstory.

As clunky as they were... I adored playing as Tanimura and Shinada in 4 and 5.

The fact that I realize that this is what i look like without a weapon in blade in sorcery really sells the unrefined street brawling aesthetic Shinada’s style is going for.

Shinada actually feels like a real life street fighter. He uses random techniques. Some made up. He uses grappling. In a way, he is a bigger street fighter than Kiryu. And a actual Street Fighter than 90% of the chars from Street Fighter.

I have a theory that Shinada is more a fighter who win in resistance. Well, he's a begginer fighter, so he don't have much experience on that, but he's a baseball player, so he might have a good resistance, that what make him win the fights (sorry if my english is little broke, I am brazilian)

I Unironically like fighting as Shinada more tha Akiyama in yakuza 5, Not a fan of how gimmicky the aerial combat can be, plus Shibada fighting style is awesome

Tanimura if he was a jackass with 0 combat experience and didn't have his throw cheese to save him(deadass, if you play Yakuza 4 and get to throw someone as Tanimura you will not only be in for one of the longest animations of you're life but also one that deals decent damage to other enemies if they get too close and also has damn near if not 100% invincibility frames the entire animation and also can be done out of or into a heat action for more damage. Just like Shinada, you almost never want Tanimura unarmed cause his fighting style is weird. But he does have a parry, grab cheese, and his existence leads to heat actions for days which is a bit of a saving grace. Ive never played any game in the Yakuza series but watching no damage community makes it look fun cause they find ways to break the games wide open with some cheese and thats what I live for when it comes to games)

Unlike Kiryu, Saejima, Akiyama or Tanimura, Shinada doesn't have any contact whatsoever with yakuza or criminals in general, he's just a baseball player that randomly got assaulted on the street and is trying his best not to get his ass kick

Shinada's main selling point his weapon skills. He has unique attack patterns with weapons and his abilities focuses on them. But if you want to fight unarmed with him just drink some booze as it will increase the attack damage of his attack if you get the proper skill. It must be a soul skill. Also you if you open his mid combo grab he will give some crazy damage. he does not have any insta damage attacks but his style focuses on pinning down the enemy. Also he got eye frames during some of his moves.

I remember being hyped to play him when I got to his chapter only to realise his fighting style heavily relys on weapons Though tbf compared to the other he’s pretty realistic he not reined in martial arts and is more like a regular dude

I actually hated this portion of the game. I dislike how long the fights can take and how repetitive it could get. Kiryu, Saejima, and Akiyama let me wipe the floor with trash mobs in 15 seconds yet with Shinada it took as long as 1 minute 30.

It’s not weird... you just don’t use him right. Grab at the end of combos. Use weapons with heat. Mix up when you grab, etc: It seems like all you know is 3 squares, triangle. 🤦🏻‍♂️ So much combat depth in Yakuza games... but, people play like it’s Dynasty Warriors.
