I had a C-1 in the 1980s, had several FET failures due to heat. I eventually removed the phonograph Amp circuit board to reduce heat, and installed dozens of heatsinks on remaining FETs that were hot.

I was actually thinking about doing the same thing. I don't use the phono bit anyway, and your comment makes me want to do it even more.

Използвайте след предусилвателя - EQ, crosover, compressor and exspander, AH connektor и други.

mid highs and mid lows the presence and acoustic, when i lived in Africa i had the cover off the component so i could put two metal fans from toshiba to avoid excessive heat and more dangerous the high level of humidity

Hello Karl, i am owner of two B1, one B2, Sony TA-N7B several Ta-e88 and 88b, Kyocera C910, B910, Kenwood Supremes and so on ans so on. All my amps and preamps has been fully restaurated. In your video you are mention the Ta-e88 and compare it to the Yamaha C1, has the Sony been restaurated? I heard lots of preamps and never heard anything better than Sony even TOTL Accuphase like C2800 cant compete with Sony. Only Kenwood L07c-II is near but with slightly different type of sound. Regards, Božidar

Absolutely beautiful pre amp. I didn't realize just how large it was until you were sitting in front of it in the end. Makes sense though considering the weight. I would absolutely love one of the higher end yamaha integrated amps like the ca-2010 in black as I think the colour is absolutely gorgeous, but sadly they don't exist. You mention the sound being slightly smoother which to me indicates that the output is slightly coloured, perhaps that characteristic smooth warmish v-fet sound? I missed a ta-8650 the other month on ebay for +-1000 euros which is a shame. Still looking for a nice integrated amplifier that has some nice looks. I am currently using a ta-4650 which has a pretty decent output stage but the pre amp frankly is not great.

@KITR-UK 11 ай бұрын
She's gorgeous, isn't she? You're right, the output may be a bit coloured to a warmer side, but that's what I love about that. That's a shame you missed the TA-8650. I just finished restoring TAN-8550, which I'm going to review next month or so, and if the TA-8650 (which I haven't heard yet) is at least half as good, you should really regret you missed her. I haven't heard the TA-4650 either, but why is the pre-amp bit not great?
@trevor245
@trevor245 11 ай бұрын
@@KITR-UK It functions well but it's just not very high end, same for the ta-5650. The pre amplification section is pretty similar to the ta 3650. Decent amplifier but with the ta-4650 compared to the output stage it's just a shame to use it with the built in pre amp. In my experience it has quite a bit of channel bleed through and the noise floor isn't fantastic. I am sure recapping and recalibrating it would work better but the consensus online seems to be similar.

i have some pre-amplifiers bought in the 70´s or 90´s and this one was always one of my favorite ones for the functions it as one can improve the sound of any source and also have a receiver that one can put all sources at the same output level ,i only saw it on yamaha amplifiers or receivers, i have more components from other brands but yamaha always had great equipment ,this is a good example ,it´s very rare to see a so complete pre-amplifier, some even say that is excessive and no need for it but then some tell me "i don´t like the sound of this record " and i reply well in my pre i can make it sound better ,you have a better one you told me so why can´t you make it sound better ?if amplifiers have tone controls or loudness why are they not used, the old story of that´s how the artist wanted it to be heard to what i reply i´m sure that in the studio it must had sounded great or it wouldn´t be released. the Sony you refered is the same in what sound quality ?while listening in flat or the yamaha which can be improved by several functions available on it ,the reason why i say it´s my favorite, more important the already refered output level for each inputs or source´s

vfet ok, i do have ta-n7 completely restored, b2 is just about to be restored, but imho and to my ears nothing can beat kenwood supreme 700m, perfect in every way. C1 is so expensive, out of my budget, but it looks nice:)

How does the TA-N7 sound? I'm going to have mine properly restored in couple of days, so I wonder if she's going to dethrone my favourite B-3s.

@@KITR-UK i have never seen or heard b3, ta-n7 is brilliant i every way, soon my guy willl finish b2 restoration so i can compare two, but i am sure both are excellent. Although as i said to my ears kenwood supreme 700m is my thing. There is atm one b1 for sale in germany 3600eur, a bit pricy for me, but it is still good buy imho.

I have a restored Sony N7, restored Yamaha B2 and a restored Kenwood KA 907(the last of the Supreme series) the Vfet are more musical than the Kenwood. Kenwood has incredible grip and detail, however. The B2 is fuller with a wider sound stage. The Sony N7 is my favorite. It has a crystalline quality that is razor sharp but soft as a feather. 😊 thanks for the video and thanks to Hi Fi Squirrel AKA Peter for his restorations.

It seems like you fancy your TA-N7, good choice. It was my favourite as well, until recently. I've just finished restoring my TAN-8550, and it seems she's just superior to every other V-FET I've got, including the TA-N7. I'll give it some time before making a video though.

Would be interesting to hear any deference between this and the C6 that has MC I/p and parametric eq
@RUfromthe40s
@RUfromthe40s 10 ай бұрын
i think this as parametric equalizer as the c-6 that i also own one but it´s not written there but lot of frequency changes can be done in higher or lower ones, not sure of being the same but by their sound it seems the same but in a diferent display, the mc input for phono is not there but for some reason it wasn´t included one but 3 phono inputs with level of sound adjustment, i have 3 turntables with didferent sounding cartridges and sound type normally a diferent frequency response but more interesting having all diferent type of sound and all turntables are good
@RUfromthe40s
@RUfromthe40s 10 ай бұрын
i went to see the impedance in the phono inputs but maybe if choosen correctelly one can match a mc type in one of those imputs maybe , i have not here the mc type impedances and other specifications but for the year of realease should have it allthough it was not much used by this time the mc type cartridges i had one in a pioneer system that is still working but like i said i can´t confirm the impedances or other specifications at the moment

@@mahi-hd6cv Since I never heard either of these models, I won't be much of a help. What I heard though, was Yamaha C-2x (which is supposedly completely different pre-amp) and that was very similar to the C-1. As for Mark Levinson I was never a fan, there is something I don't fancy about their gear, sound-wise.
