I agree about being careful when opening up the box because I cut my thumb on a staple from the box of my Yamaha CD-S2100.

We typically cordon off the entire area around the unboxing video's and sweep for potentual hazards.

We have some fun sharing these great HiFi products, and chuck about the accessories and packaging to highlight that people often take things WAY too seriously in this industry. Nothing gets damaged. We are just trying to be relaxed about these video's. The product is always cared for, the packaging... well not so much.

@@TLPCHC i must admit, best, especially for all hard listeners, who listen cds very much! I have big cd collection and i am too lazy change cds, so this machine do it automatically.

I have the Yamaha CD-S300 to accompany a Yamaha R-N602. Currently I'm using the analog-out to connect to the line-in on the R-N602. Whats your view on using the digital out from the CD-S300 to connect to the R-N602?

@@TLPCHC I purchased a Toslink cable to connect via optical and compared against analog-out. They both sounded exactly the same. Perhaps the DAC in the R-N602 is the same as in the CD-S300. Anyway at least i know. I'll stick with using the RCA connects.

QUESTION: I'm looking for a multi-cd player that can take 3 to 6 cd and play them sequentially or shuffle. I want it to be compact so it can fit on a book shelf. I don't like the size of the Yamaha CD S300. It's far too big for what it's doing. Do you know of such product? Why don't manufacturers make a CD player with single platter that can read-up the CD content into internal permanent memory and then playback from directly from internal memory. It would be very compact and very versatile for the user. This would be ideal product.

Re: your idea of a CD player with internal memory. I guess, once the memory etc is created, it would not be much more cost to produce a full scale PC (or laptop). This is cool though: www.cocktailaudio.com/home/sub01_08.php

I don't think the CD-N301 is available any longer. When It was I think I recall the CD-S300 sounding better

You've just gained a sub! I've got an rs202d receiver and floorstanding mission mx3's, I'm thinking about adding this. Should I connect Analogue l+r to the receiver? Also will the receiver remote work with this cd player?

Firstly, buy a bigger amplifier to drive your speakers. Second, connect via L and R

I'm just about ready to swap out my 9-year old Onkyo (it's pretty much causing ALL my discs to skip now no matter how pristine they are or how many times I swab the lens with alcohol, ugh) and I heard this Yamaha gives one quite the bang for its buck by comparison. One question, can you hook speakers up to it? The ones my Onkyo came with I'd rather hold on to as they were solidly made to begin with and the sound that comes out of them is pretty darn good. Good presentation, btw!

The CD-S700 is a significantly better CD player. It sounds way better than the CD-S300

The player itself is great apart from taking its time in loading/accessing tracks, but the remote buttons are disappointingly fiddly and not very comfortable to use.

Does it have a better laser and overall more stable drive than a Marantz CD-5005 ( a very bad player with skipping disks)

I won't say anything bad about the Marantz (as others already have and focus on how good the Yamaha is (hint).

Some of these Marantz have problems. Because for the price they had to convey production of them to chinese OEM. Yamaha CDS-300 is still made in Yamaha`s factory in Malaysia. So the same quality control as it would be in Japan.

Yes. All CD Players connect into amplifiers via a line level input

I find it rather dumb to not have a power button on the remote.....to me, that breaks the deal cause there are many other players out there that do sound just as great as this one and with a power button on the remote....

It does automatically go into standby, and can be brought out of standby with the Play button.

why do people who review Hi_Fi equipment do not understand or know how to record great audio quality. How hard to it to buy a decent mic and not have so much hiss in the the recording.

My day job is selling HiFi. When we have 5mins we grab a camera a quickly share some cool new stuff. This is not ever going to be perfect. We did eventually invest in a better mic though see here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbZkZpeGkpvRfmQ.html
