Thank you for your video, same thing on a 700 2011 I just bought, went through injector cleaning additive and all, finally replaced the spark plug, runs perfect now.

mine is currently doing the same thing and considering I’ve never changed it. Luckily, I actually bought a spark plug a month ago, so I changed it after watching this video and she fired up and runs perfectly. Thanks a lot man!

@@kuffs06 I have replaced the plugs many times and problem solved at least for a while. Taking a stab at cleaning the plug with vinegar, wire brush and torch. Will see how it goes. Thanks for the comment

Had the same issues. Chase all the same things. Fuel filter, air filter, flushed the fuel tank...... changed the plug like you said and it runs like new again. Thanks for the tip!

Had the same problem with my Grizzly 700 (2010). After several (costly) visits to the dealer I was told that the single cylinder engines like his one operates better with higher octaine fuel. I bought 98+ octaine racing fuel and now it runs like a champ.

What if I run non ethanol 92 octane premium fuel? Would that be ok for it? I don’t wanna run race fuel if I don’t have to

There is a fuel filter inside the fuel tank, it’s a pita to change but it resolved my fuel/backfire/fuel starvation issues.

will be trying this next. I've done the fuel strainer on the fuel pump, air filter, changed out the gas, cleaned sensors. Will probably just replace the fuel injector and the spark plug and hope for the best. Thanks for the video. Will let you know what happens.

Seems I have to replace the plug once a year. It is carbon buildup as far as I can tell. My manual does not say how to lean out the carb setting. I have had issues with the idle jet which I cleaned. Thanks for the video.

Hey! I have a grizzly 2011 550 and just pulled out my spark plug and it was filthy, SO I’ll be replacing the spark plug then replace gas with 98+ octaine. Should be good to go. Checked my error codes seems fine BUT some reason my code came up #42. Thx for this video. Very much appreciated. 😎👍

Mine was doing the same thing. I pulled out the fuel pump and found a bee and a fly inside of the tank. they were being sucked up restricting the fuel flow. I also found some oil in my air filter housing. This wasn't the cause for the stalling but it was a sign of a defective PCV valve or blocked engine ventilation system. If the engine can't breath, it can't idle.

thanks for the Video, I have a 2021 , that is back Firing and staling , just 500 miles on it, and I could not believe how bad the sparkplug looked, My local Auto parts did not have in stock tonight, but will tomorrow, going to replace it and give it a shot..... very surprised about having to change it so soon, not use to that in a 4 stroke EFI engine.. .wow... disappointing.

I bought brand new Grizzly 700 2019 back then and when it came it was backfiring when its in reverse and you press the throttle harder, i asked some repair shops and said to me that i should change reverse sensor!

My issue going to get new spark plug already rebuilt they sent wrong plug so I used old spark plug redid timing several times adjust valves different setting cleaned new carb .dang hope this works

Turned out throttle neck was cracked sucking air one bolt ear couldn't see but a little crack in rubber coating

So I have the same issue and I have changed the spark plug every a couple of time but issue is still there. I just ordered the injector hope it fix the problem. But wanted to know Anthony did it work for you changing the injector

Crazy a $3 spark plug brings a $10,000 machine to its knees. Reading the manual it says to use 91 octane which sounds crazy to me too.

I have a Yamaha 660 and i cant go over 30 because it shuts off and backfire the carbs looks clean what else could be wrong? It does have snorkels ..all are sucking only one is pushing out

@@tannermiddleton9526 What year is it. Does it have a carburetor, if so the pet cock valve that is attached to the gas tank can deteriorate and plug not allowing fuel to get to the carb. The assembly bolts to the bottom of the tank and is about 40 bucks to replace.

Thanks for video ... I was having booging down after warm up or stalling so I changed the spark plug it helps better but doesn't solved issues with bogging down when you running up the throttle. So you think it's injector on my 07 grizzly?

Could be, it’s hard to diagnose on brief written descriptions. This video was made to help point a guy in a possible direction if the causation of the stalling and backfiring wasn’t found or obvious through complete troubleshooting. If you’re able to rule out ignition as a source of issue, the air filter is reasonably clean and the intake unobstructed, allowing you to rule out intake air delivery as an issue, I would focus on fuel delivery. If the fuel system is otherwise not leaking or blocked somewhere, There is an in fuel tank sock on the fuel pump that can be checked/replaced. This sock and a micro screen in the fuel injector can become partially blocked. The fuel injector can fail in other ways as well as the fuel pump. It’s been my experience the condition of a used spark plug and/or fuel injector could be the problem as a result of the fuel injector micro screen becoming partially blocked when stalling and backfiring are experienced with the machine and other notable performance issues are not present. Replacing the plug and/or injector is a way to possibly remedy that problem. Just throwing parts without ruling out other problems may or may not work out, that’s kind of a gamble. I am not a certified Yamaha mechanic, so take all of this FWIW.

@@parkland4530 There could be many reasons for this and I have little information regarding your machine and its current mechanical condition… with that said, how is the plug fowled? fuel, oil, debris, etc? I would guess if carbureted may be fuel rich due to carb calibration or choke issues and would look there first? That is definitely a guess and could be something entirely different… Sorry, hard to troubleshoot without knowing a lot more/looking it over…

So maybe I missed the statement that you did fix it or not?? I know you stated that you cleaned the fuel tank out. Did you check the screen within your tank? I've seen plenty of rusted tank screen that get clogged. Are you getting any fuel period??

Yes, I fixed it. Fuel injector was not performing properly likely due to partially obstructed injector screen. Needed new spark plug. Spark plug was likely 75% of the problem and fuel injector the other 25%. Trouble shooting was done with fuel and spark delivery verified as present. Components replaced (plug & injector) looked like they should work on visual inspection but turned out to the causation of the stalling and backfiring. These two things seem to be a common problem resulting in the above undesirable performance. Thought I’d share since I initially overlooked the above which was simple in hindsight but wasn’t so obvious in diagnosing for me. When I stopped at the Yamaha dealer to pick up the plug, it was obvious they were well aware of what took me a while to figure out.

Believe it was a ngk r CPR7EA-9 but I’d pull it to confirm, consult owners manual or call dealer to be sure for yours

I have a 2013 grizzly 550. I keeps shutting off and the number 30 appears on the display. I've changed the plug, cleaned the air cleaner, engine fluids are up to the full marks. This all occurs after it's been road for a few miles. Any knowledge on this would be Greatly appreciated, thank you

Sounds like it may be a lean angle sensor, they can corrode and fail resulting in the code. It looks like there’s some videos on here on it. I think that would be a good place to start.
