I love my Yamaha LL16 ARE in beautiful sunburst. Bought second hand for Australian $600. Plays great, sounds balanced and plenty of volume. I agree with the 'consistency' of Yamahas. I play Bluegrass and it's great even tho some say it's no good for that coz it's not a Martin, Gibson etc. When some friends played it they couldn't believe how good it was 'for a Yamaha'. One said it was every bit as good as his D18! Different yes but just different and great. 😀

Yes, I agree that these are world class instruments. The sustain is seriously impressive and the tonal balance across the strings is very pleasing. Definitely one to consider against the equivalent Taylors and Martins.

Yes for years I used a Taylor 310ce - phenomenal gigging guitar, especially when playing leads and great pickup. But mic'd or unplugged not so good too tinny. I have a Martin D1XAE and sounds great. I did play lots of D18s/28s but for the price not worth it in my opinion. However when one does get that "right" Martin dred, pretty tough to beat. Gibson dreds too.

Yes l agree Iv'e just bought a second/hand Yamaha ( LJ6C) it's an electric acoustic, BUT what a beautiful tone, believe me, I love a Martin, Yairi, a very few Fender's, and Guild's Collings to just name a few of the top Acoustic's, but this Yamaha was something else, go and play one, 'n' see what You think 😮😮😮

This guitar is phenomenal. I own one and this review is an excellent representation of its quality, sound and function. I've played some of the best; Goodall, Collings, Martin, etc. And while they're all exceptional, they have nothing on the playability and sound quality of the Yamaha LL16 series. This guitar simply just inspires one to play. And, he's right! The right pick makes all the difference.

Nice sounding guitar! It really sounds good when you play it. I wonder how it differs with the LLTA without the effects though.
@nickweaver334310 ай бұрын
I have the LLTA, and I love it. I was originally going to get the LL16, but I was not able to find one locally. All my local shops were sold out and said it was a minimum of 6 month wait (sounds like Yamaha cannot keep up with demand and are behind), so I bought the LLTA instead. I have played the LL16 and the LL16M prior because a friend was looking into them which was how I found out about them, and I really like all of them. The LLTA is the LL16, just with the transacoustic put into it. The TA part is fun, but I typically do not use it anymore. I have honestly thought about pulling it out because it adds quite a bit of weight. Anyhow, I recommend most people just getting the LL16, but the LLTA is just as good sounding, but with some reverb and chorus you can turn on. The chorus gets way too much for my liking and if I ever add anything its just a little reverb.

@jamesdoctor80796 ай бұрын
Mediums on this rule. Acoustic shoppe has a video demo of the LL16 and LL16M using mediums. Mine is set up with John Pearse Mediums, way better sound than the light 80/20s they come with (for bluegrass anyway). If you’re doing fingerstyle exclusively, then after a couple of weeks the bench strings actually sound fine

Disagree about the Bluechip. It clearly sounds better than all the picks you demonstrated. But while recording, the song dictates the pick being used. For bluegrass lead style, you can’t get better than the Bluechip. There are other cheaper picks that have similar attack, but they’re all very noticeably reaching for the same sound as the Bluechip.
@jamesmacdon93516 ай бұрын
Yes there are many fans of the Bluechip picks…I am not one…I do not play bluegrass and primarily and overwhelmingly I should have read reviews before purchase….love it though for electric where I mostly play heavier blues and rock…
@cugir32110 ай бұрын
It is a terrible pickup system for this guitar.....treble is horrible when you play out in a bar environment. The best you can do is use a 10 band EQ. You must get 16k band almost completely out to smooth out the ice sound! 10 oclock for treble, bass, mid on a fishman loud mini amp....maybe even lower for treble. I disagree with you on the frets....those medium frets will wear out quick if you capo. Yamaha's customer service is horrible now....used to be great. It does have great sustain and overtones....action is stiffer them most guitars even with a low action but this does help with tone/volume. I like my 710-S better....I refretted it with jumbo's and it's awaesome.....not as much sustain as the LL-16 but still great. The studio people didn't play it because it's too trebly! For finger picking it okay....with a pick...too many problems with a recording.
@jamesmacdon93519 ай бұрын
Yes I can certainly agree on the pick up - does the trick but you certainly have more experience with using it than me so very good points. I have a 700S and it is awesome ! I do use a capo but not so much. I also have an FG5 and that's my fav now. I do not gig anymore, mostly write and record and goof around now. Ironically I bought it from a producer in Toronto whom owned a studio and he did say his musicians did not play it so he was selling to get a Martin. I have found it records well if played very light or fingerpicked but it is in fact very loud and more mids/highs. Great for a kitchen jam as it cuts through all the other instruments and when one does a solo it cuts. It is as you say stiffer too than most dreds however does not bother me much in that regard....they all have their quirks. Built tough as hell though...can't kill it...lol

I really liked and would be my prime choice only problem I have is the beefy neck I do t k ow if I could get used to it I don’t like it I wonder if you could recommend anything with all the qualities of the LL and in price but with a little bit smaller neck and not so lacquered neck either :(
@jamesmacdon93517 ай бұрын
Try and FG 830, 840 or 850….less money as solid top but laminate back and sides but a thinner girth , satin type neck but this FG 800 and up line are absolutely top notch….and once you upgrade to bone nut/saddle and put a K and K mini in them, a pro level guitar all around. Tuners could be upgraded as well for perfection. A Taylor 110e is also a fantastic guitar - solid woods but a beefy neck somewhat too. A great guitar as well is the Inspired by Gibson Epiphone Hummingbird all wood bone nut/saddle and good pick up system and satin neck. Not so loud unplugged but a warm sounding and even dred.
