Thank you, Ken for reviewing the Yamaha mixer. If you’re using a wireless microphone, the signal coming the wireless receiver tends to be strong because the wireless receiver amplifies it to the line signal. Therefore, it will create feedback very easily, even you turn down the gain. If that’s the case, we should engage the pad button near the gain knob. That’ll reduce the gain about 26db. engage the PFL button on the channel until the LED meter on the main output hits 0db (between green and yellow). For a wire microphone, disengage the pad button, hit the PFL and turn the gain knob up until the LED meter around 0db.

I like your video to introduce people how to use a board mixer to set up/sing karaoke. Couple of years ago when I just started setting my own karaoke system I also bought a similar board mixer to start with. Then I upgraded to a more professional karaoke mixer that you can adjust the repeat/delay parameters (not sure if this Yamaha mixer can do that). Furthermore, I understood that just using a reverb effect to mix with a little echo effect will be the best signing combination and almost similar to the sound feeling of those professional singers on TV.

yeah u need to do a combo of things.. make sure the special efx knot is turn up.. -at the special area area -at ur mic channel .. the special knob gutta turn on easier if u shoot me a text 781 539 7089 i'll show u with a screenshot n highlighting the knobs or i can also facetime shoot me a text with a note regarding this messages ..

you have less control on level of the effect but it’s good enough to get by .. the 12 channel you can add a lot more echo than the 6 channel but it’s good enough, i personally don’t like to much echo, just enough to make it sounds nice .. and to me the 6 is enough. the mg06x comes with 6 types of effects, one of them is “vocal echo” that’s what u need for karaoke ..

like singing along with audio lyric?..i can't think of a professional way, especially without a studio software ... amatuer way. jzt have two youtube videos playing at once(karoake version to the QSC speakers... vocal version thru your headset) but they will go at different speed by the end of the song.. so my answer to that is No.. but i'm pretty sure it's possible with the right software

yes.. otherwise it will be very tiring n drain out ur vocal .. u will be tired after 3-4 songs ... with efx.. u can go 10-20songs.. n it also merged/blend all ur lyrics smoothly ..

Hmmm, Yamaha vs. Behringer, what you think? I got an 8 channel Behringer which I used to hook up to my home AVR for Karaoke. By itself it's pretty shitty. But the AVR's DSP helps create the effects I needed for Karaoke. Not sure if upgrading is necessary.

Hi Ken, I’m trying to have the music from my tv come out to my speakers that my mic sound is also coming out from. I have sound from my mics but the tv sound is not. I’m using rca from my tv to mixer plugged into channel 5/6 but no sound from tv. Only static sound is heard. I was told I don’t need a digital to analog converter and rca from tv to mixer is all I need. Is that true? Thanks for taking the time to put this tutorial video out for us noobs.

yes true.. you don’t need converter if tv allows u to use other option than audio optical… you have to to Tv setting .. to sound .. and play around with it.. if it’s samsung which i’m assuming it’s not because it would require audio optical.. but yes you would have to change the setting in the TV SOUND SETTING … for example for my samsung i would have to set my sound setting to PCM setting in the sound menu.. make sure ur RcA source is transferring sound out (AUDIO OUT)

i'm using 2 QSC12 speakers 2000watts each... definitely top 3 speakers on the market ... i'm assuming you're using one of those digital mixer.. this is an analog mixer... kinda like manuel vs automatic cars..

@@binhchau5752 it's hard to figure out what's ure doing differently without being there.. can only try my best with all the basic set up... no efx for music.. for vocal efx, use #13 vocal echo .. set the knob to 1 Oclock.. the speaker configuration shouldn't affect the quality sound.. it's pretty much jzt how loud or low u want it.. the mixer is where u mixer sound quality n have it come out the way u want it to sound like.. what area are u from?

sorry for the late respond .. they're both very nice n similar .. me myself i prefer QSC k12.. perfect size, sound quality very warm, and easy to use and install... (i'm pretty sure JBL are very similar too so you can't really go wrong with either)

depends on what options ur tv give u… most samsung requires “audio optical” converter.. use optical wire to audio optical device … then use RCA to 1/4 to mixer .. if your tv allows headphone jack.. u can output from audio headphone jack to 1/4 into mixer ..

ure using shure wireless into this same mixer?.. for the mic set up itself.. pretty much jzt plug in n turn on and make sure the digital led light channel match from the mic to the receiver… if ure this same yamaha mixer.. then the gain knob should be ideally be at 10-11 oclock (increase and decrease based on a serie of things.. if ure voice strong.. u won’t need as much.. it’s pretty the sentivity of the mic .. like add nitrous to a fast car) the most important knob IMO .. would be the EFX knob.. turn it to 1oclock position .. every other knobs like low/mid/high set it to 12oclock… and over to the special effect section toward the right of the mixer.. set it to EFX #13 vocal echo n set that knob to 12-1 oclock…

the 1-2ST button is to pressed down IF u want to control it with the RED lever.. yea u need to press it in order to hear anything from it when u turn on individual or master volume

they’re all the same .. it’s just slightly different interface .. and the higher you go up.. the MORE channel you can input into it… make sure it says “XU” at the end for special effects

yes you would have to connect the receiver to the mixer.. by using RCA cable... sound output from receiver into a channel on the yamaha mixer (using RCA)

Hi T Lansonrx. You could connect your 5.1 system for karaoke. You should get the music audio from your TV to the mixer and mix it your vocal from a microphone before sending to your AV receiver. When you do that, should change to stereo

Don’t use the 5.1 mode on the AV receiver. It doesn’t not sound great. I would use the 5.1 system for the vocal or singing. You could damage the speakers. Get a pair of powered speakers for the vocals only, the music can be played with your 5.1 system. With this setup, you can control the music and vocals independently. Remember play the music in the stereo mode.

How would you compare this unit to those $1200+ Karaoke mixers, such IDOLmain IP-5900 6000W Digital Karaoke Mixing Amplifier, or other karaoke mixer Brands that cost $1200 - $1800? Currently I am using BMB DX388 G3 Karaoke mixer and it has some issue, 4 of the 5 microphones input has no sound (idk why), only 1 microphone input is still working. For this reason I am researching and shopping for a new Karaoke mixer. My current system configuration two EV ZLX12" speakers top and one EV ZX1 Sub 12", one Sennhesier EW100 G3 Wireless e865 and 2nd Mic is Sennhesier EW100 G4 e965 and the full system sound is awesome, I love the system. Jus the BmB DX388 G3 Karaoke mixer has issue with the microphone number. I am think of purchasing your Yamaha mixer MG12XU, Any advise would be perfect. Thank you much! Again, great Video.

@@alvinhoang1800 tyvm.. for watching and kind words.. yeah i was never a fan of the BMB set up.. those are like start-ups just to get into the world of karoake .. enough to do the job but top notch quality aren't there... and them expensive mixer, they're mostly digital .. if you have the electronic background or IQ for it.. yes those are great .. more options for audio mixing .. more plug-ins.. more audio/vocal filtering and enhancing .. i personally can't comprehend them expensive digital mixer .. requires training from experts .. so i just stick with analog mixer..

Question: I research bit more on this topic, I notice Yamaha also have 10 channels MG10XUF similar to your MG12XU. Would you recommend Yamaha MG10XUF more suitable for our purpose seem like it has all functions as the MG12XU but only 10 channels?

hi Kent, can you please show me how to connect LG tv to mixer? I want to do karaoke from youtube. I have mixer12xu, bose s1 pro and microphone. I can hear the sound when I speak to the microphone but unable to get the sound from TV. Can you let me know which cable I should use and where to plug them on tv and mixer? thank you!

ok so based of the google picture of "back of LG tv" you would need a device called "audio optical converter" it's a small square/rectangle shape device that will direct your sound from your TV into your MIxer.. u will also need 2 cables.. audio optical cable to connect from your tv to that square device .. then an RcA cable to connect from that square device into your mixer.. into channel 9/10 on your yamaha mixer. that should be it... good luck 👍🏼

use a 3.5mm jack to 1/4 cable ... 3.5m jack is the normal standard u use for headphone ... and 1/4 goes into mixer ... or 3.5 to RCA cable ... depending on ur mixer ... based on my google search... it should be 3.5m to RCA cable ..

speaker cam thang vao mixer... (top right corner of mixer) neu ban dung same mixer va speaker QSC.. ko can Amp.. tai no co san AMP pre-built inside already..

Hi Ken, I watched your entire video and also hit the like button. Here is my Karaoke system: 2 Yamaha DZR12, 1 Yamaha DXS15, 2 Shure mics. I am thinking about the Soundcraft 12 channel mixer over the 12 channel Yamaha. Please let me know what you think about picking my mixer. Thanks.

i haven't seen or used 600i before but i have just GOOGLED it now. from looking at it. it should work fine. the BLUE knob control the echo.. it should work ALMOST similar to the yamaha mixer i have in video.. it's just i'm not sure how good is the reverb/echo sounds like LIVE... but it should be okay by looking at the 600i... it's just a smaller n compact version (easier to use).. long story short, YES it should work fine!

use the MAIN blue knob to control the Special Efx. either HALL or Echo.. see which one you like better and then use blue knob on channel 1&2 blue knobs to control it into your MICs

@@vpham3508 i'm not familiar with Klipsch but from looking at a GOOGLE pic.. it only allows you 1 option, which is RCA cable. so you would need a cable that's called "RCA to 1/4" one end (rca) goes to the SUB and other end (1/4) goes to yamaha mixer into (stereo out holes)... i am uploading my new video now .. it should be up on youtube within next few hrs.. thanks for watching n commenting ! let me know if i can help with anything else

Tran Huynh default is fine.. having an subwoofer is good but if u don't have one it's okay .qsc have built n subwoofer.. very pure n good sound quality

okay i did some research into the list u listed above.. yes you can buy a mackie mixer and connect everything .. you won't need the pioneer reciever unless you want to.. the cable/wire all depends on what ur equipment allows you to do.. most likely it's either XLR or 1/4 cable.. if both options are available, go with XLR(it'll give u best sound quality).. i would recommend "shure wireless mics" and qsc12 speakers (ONLY if budget is NOT a problem) if you're trying to budget control then just keep with current mic and speakers and upgrade later ONLY if you feel needed. (wiring method is complicated to explain if you don't already know, ask some1 with somewhat of mixer-knowledge) it's really easier if you already have a background into music electronic.. i don't have a mackie mixer to do a view with but it's very similar concept with the yamaha mixer that i have already done a video on... good luck!...hope this helps.. enjoy...

go into audio setting on tv n play around with diff option.. set it to PCM setting or keep trying diff option until it work..

Great basic tutorial. I hate that you have buy such a huge mixer to get more than 4 mic output jacks. The price of a mixer practically doubles when you go from 4 to 6 mic jacks. I need 6, that's why I'm saying this. So I have to pay double just for those extra 2 microphones I need.

@@kenvietle5987 speakers and sub are all from qsc, mixer is Mackie 12 channel, and vang so is like a digital mixer i believe to cancel out the howling noise from the mics. Thank you and I'm looking forward for the upcoming videos
