If I want a 4 stroke boat motor it will be inboard. Love the sound, the smell, and the fun of a 2 stroke outboard.

I prefere 2 strokes. They are cheaper, more durable, very easy to maitence, and has a better sound and smell than 4 strokes. P.d.: what a nice sound of those 200 old yamahas!

@sangolt88 Amen to that. I absolutely love every sound of the old OMC outboards (Johnson and Evinrude) right down to the starter motor sound!

These 2 strokes sound the same as my old Evinrude V6 200. Love the sound, but my current boat is 4 ft longer (26ft) and has a Honda 50 4-stroke :)

i like the sound of the 2 strokes but twin 4 stokes just have that awsome sounding noise when they accelerate hard or when they are pushed to the max

The sound of those 2 stroke engines is pure music, but 4 strikes are more efficient however.

I have twin Yamaha 200 2 strokes on a 25 foot Whaler. Great engines.

Just put a new power head on my 2 stroke 130 Yamaha vs buying a new 4 stroke,which I could easily afford. 2 strokes have less maintance,weigh less,provide better range of power and just sound better IMO.

I like the sound of the 2 strokes, but my wallet would like the economy of the 4 strokes.

Oyster punts here in south australia all run big four strokes. More economical, amazingly reliable and up to 5000 hours before rebuild. the two strokes are stuffed long before then

Nah, you need to put some Mercury Racing 260s or 280s on there. THOSE are the two stroke V6's that'll knock your socks off. Depending on the year, they weigh less than 400lbs, and when you dip the prop/exhaust up out of the water and rev it, they sound like a formula 1 car.

Those old 2 strokes look tired and they don't have the stones for that boat. However, they sound fantastic while the new motors have nothing. That's my opinion at least. 2 strokes are the better motors IMO.

How come when the newer engines were in reverse they made a whistling noise. I always hear that noise whether its a ski boat or an outboard.

The 2 strokes had way better take off. Im looking to get a new 75hp outboard and have been looking around. I was really hoping to like the new 4 strokes but i haven't been impressed at all with them. I really wanted a yamaha but they only sell 4 strokes here now. I guess ima have to go with an etec or optimax.

@cats40: I like Suzuki too, very quiet and has no mechanical sound, just the engine noise, which is nice. However Yamaha simply beats Suzuki in the sound department IMHO.

I prefer the 4-stroke sound in this example. Ease of maintenance I'd go for a 2-stroke. They run forever if taken care of.

hey I am looking at a 1999 doral bizia 22 footer with a matching 150 stroke yami with about 400 hours on it . it is efi can anyone tell me if that's a lot of hours and how the fuel mileage compares to carberated . the boat itself weighs 2700 so I was wondering if I could be ok off floridas coast , and what I can expect roughly for gallons per hour or miles per gallon . I cant even find much info on the boat itself . but was told there quite well made I diont know if there is wood in them foam etc but at 4500 for an offshore boat that's a good price if it isn't a money pit . I hear the yamahas are great but not sure about efi , and the hours thanks

Everyone saying 2 strokes sound better have never worked on the water. When you are on a crab boat for 8 hrs everyday you would much rather listen too a 4 over a 2 stroke. Not to mention the 4 strokes are way better on fuel. Ill trade a little less power rather then have to listen to those loud old 2 smoker all day.
