Flashing the Ecu is a must to get rid of the throttle and gear based restriction on the 07-08. In the first 3 gears it only gives you 60% throttle till after 7000 rpm then i think its restricted up high in the rpm range also it drops down to 80%throttle even tho your wide open.

Full disclaimer: I own a 07 R1. ButI agree it is the Best looking R1. Tho short on hp and a little over weight it has handles. Great track day bike. Will it blow out a ZX or a gixxer of the same class in a 1/4 mile? Nah. But they have a hell of a time keeping up with you in the twisties. By 2020 standards it's hp would be considered as "modest" but it's a bike you can ride hard with awesome handing capabilities. Love my R1💙👍

@DbzDan783 жыл бұрын
shouldn't need a power commander to tune the bike they can tune it thru the ecu on the dyno and leave there tune directly on the ecu with out all the piggy back BS. If I ever went to a tuner and they told me they can't tune my bike without a power commander then I'd walk right out the door lol.
@worldtraveler86132 жыл бұрын
If you think this bike is heavy the 09+ r1 is about 50lbs heavier. And has a lower power to weight ratio. This is the faster r1 in a straight line. The crossplane crank was made to increase traction in a turn, which it does great and wins in every roadracing series. But for a literbike its slow in a straight line. This gen r1 is faster. 180hp and 177 kg, compares to 190-200 hp and 206 kg. So a newer r1 is technically slower.

I have an ecu flash. The bike idles rough on cold start then levels out. Thats not a universal problem with them. Im 6'2 195, the bike is fairly easy to move with it off. It all depends on you. Now lifting the rear end on a rear wheel stand is a little tough. I removed all the plastic around the exhaust piping ill tell you the heat from exhaust in Florida summers sitting at a redlight is brutal. But ill suffer through that because it looks great. I have the undertail akrapovic dual exhaust. HID conversion is a must, ecu flash, power commander, shorty levers and youre good to go!

I currently own a 2008 r1. I have to totally disagree with your Cons. I guess you haven’t had much experience with litre bikes. Here are my takes from your comments. Weight- it is still the lightest litre bike in the market. In fact it’s lighter then the 2015 Gen. Ecu flash will make your idle smoother which is totally opposite of what you are saying. Gas mileage- it’s not great if you’re commuting in heavy traffic. 600cc has way better mileage when you’re doing stop and go. Looks wise I think it’s a design that will never look old that’s why they are holding their value. True Cons in my opinion: Not a lot of low end power as compared to other litre bikes Under tail exhaust can cook your balls in summer. Aftermarket exhausts are super expensive.
@omarsam52764 жыл бұрын
I said that Ecu flash makes it smoother...and I’m comparing its weight to a 600cc bike not to other liter bikes
@shermastz4 жыл бұрын
Omar Sam youre saying that idling is very rough at @2:07. When it comes to weight you can say the r6’s weight is more then a r3 and that’s a con 🤔
@omarsam52764 жыл бұрын
Sher Mast Zafar So I meant that the the ecu flash makes the bike smoother when it comes to the throttle response. It’s less jerky. However it definitely makes idling rough and I can send you a picture of the company website that I used that flashed the ecu. They themselves warned me that this would occur
@shermastz4 жыл бұрын
Omar Sam I have Woolich on mine and I love it. Give them a try. What’s the mileage on the bike? May be you need new spark plugs and valve adjustments.

Inspite of the cons I will still get the sick deal being offered to me, the 08 R1 has only a few mileage(factory overruns), my other option is an 07 CBR1000RR, but I think R1's are cooler, it's a sportsbike those are natural issues, otherwise we can just get a scooter and still have complaints about that😉

Thanks man. I have a cruiser and this is a huge step for me. But driving descent at the beginning will be no problem. Power to weight ratio... 1:1. 1000hp per ton!!! First off, that's a beautiful bike. I recently bought an black $ red 03 R1 w only 10k miles on it, and the full fluids weight is actually 20 lbs lighter than my previous CBR600f3. The R1 is a 998 cc motor in a 600cc bike sized frame. My 03 is 420 lbs wet. While my CBR600F3 was 440 lbs wet. Plus, if your bike feels too heavy you could always do a few weight saving things, like 1st removing smog equipment and putting headers that don't have an EXUP valve box on them. I hear that box is very heavy. I just got a Hindle full system and will be putting it on in a few weeks, as well as removing the smog and installing a PC V piggyback ecu that same day. I'll let you know how much weight that saves.

It should take more than a week to get bored of a fast 600. 600 supersports are plenty fast for me. Top speed over 150. I did get bored of my first bike, a slow suzuki katana. That bike topped out around 120. I upgraded to a cbr 600 f3. That was a fun bike. Topped out around 145 but i never got bored of it. But i got sick of carb maintenance so i still needed to upgrade. Now i ride an 06 gsxr 600 and i still get scared when i pin the throttle. That bike is fast. Which lets me know i dont need a literbike lol. Im not getting bored of 600s anytime soon.

If you have never ridden a motorcycle (scooters don't count) don't listen to this dude talking about start on a 1000. He's just flexing because now he got a liter bike but yet it scares the shit out of him and he's an experienced rider. One of these days he'll eat his own foot. Watch those videos where new riders freak out and have the throttle pinned wide open because they're shocked and don't know what to do.
