Yamaha R1 is a name that has been around for 2 and a half decades! Synonymous with the birth of the modern superbike
This video is of how we chose to celebrate 25 years of the Yamaha R1, and we did so by gathering a bunch of R1 owners at Baffle Haus for breakfast, banter and to head off for a ride!
What's my favourite R1 of them all? Watch this video and you'll find out
Thanks so much to all that attended the R1 meet and celebrated with us, how will you celebrate with your R1?

@@grahamsmith8122 That sounds very special! What year bike was that? Must have been fairly early?

@@ILikeMotorbikes Motorcycle City gave Phillip a blank cheque so he could build a bike to beat Honda as he'd just been dropped by them. He hurt himself before the TT but the bike was campaigned by McAdoo with Ryan who won everything on it for a couple of years. It was the first generation R1 before they softened the motors. Another bike I wish I had kept. I rode it at Donington and a few other track days, it was a missile.

I once had the Thunderace, after a few thousand miles I really loved the five speed gearbox and the five valve head, plenty of torque on tap and quite a decent all round road bike. Such a shame it started dribbling fluids! I would definitely consider an R1, and probably around 05 too!
@ILikeMotorbikes

That Thunderace is an underrated bike yet I've never swung a leg over one sadly You've got good taste to consider the 05 too 😁

I migrated from the YZF-1000, and was previous FZR-1000, to the 98 R1. Now on the 05 R1, the bike reminds me in some respects of the ThunderAce.

Dude, you need to be covering the front brake all the time. You don't need four fingers to twist that throttle. You're going over blind bends and crests with all sorts of possible hazards ahead.
@ILikeMotorbikes
@ILikeMotorbikes 11 ай бұрын
I'm a fairly capable rider, you don't need to cover the front brake all the time at all and it's individual preference as to how you open the throttle.
@LeeTillbury
@LeeTillbury 11 ай бұрын
@@ILikeMotorbikesOk. It does take a lot of effort to do so, so why bother😉

@LeeTillbury
@LeeTillbury 11 ай бұрын
@@ILikeMotorbikesIt is absolutely. You say you don't need to cover the brake all the time yes? What about when you're riding over moorland with many blind crests, corners, animals and animals poop, mud and gravel?
@ILikeMotorbikes
@ILikeMotorbikes 11 ай бұрын
@LeeTillbury totally depends on the situation. Should you cover the brake when you anticipate danger I.e a junction coming up? Perhaps if there is a car at said junction waiting to pull out. Should you do it when it's obviously clear there are no other vehicles around? Perhaps it's wasted effort. In this video what you don't see is the fact we chose the location for minimal amount of junctions etc on the twisty areas of the road and we also had spotters so it's not totally "riding blind" as it may be on a usual day out journey
