There is no doubt the V4 is smoother than the V twin. I owned a Yamaha XV1100 which was a V twin with a shaft drive. It was air cooled. I now own a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 which is liquid cooled and belt driven. I think the Kawasaki although a larger engine is a quieter bike. For a fairer comparison my son has a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 shaft drive and liquid cooled which is quieter than both the Yamaha and my own bike. I reckon if there was a similar sized V4 cruiser it would be as powerful but not a noisy. When I talk about the noise I don't refer to the noise at the pipes but the engine noise even when it is idling. Thanks again for posting and sharing the test ride.

I've read in motorcycle mags that certain V-4s sound like V8s but I was impressed with how this bike really DID sound like a v8 particularly on low rev acceleration (as recorded by the camera).

Those aren't the stock pipes, those look like the Bub's. That's what gives it the roar. When you really get on it the sound is very American V8. The original pipes struck out of the back and looked like tail fins on an old Caddy, and were a PITA backing up to a curb. I've been on mine since 2009 and it's still going strong.

Sean Butler I know there was some major differences like bore and stroke valve train carbs etc, sounds like you know more about that then I do, but I can promise you that it is the same block or at least extremely similar. I have a 95 VMax and a neighbor has a 08 (I believe, somewhere in there) venture. We messed around comparimg them some one evening, for fun. They're very similar. It looked as if most if not all the covers would be interchangeable.

I generally enjoy your content. I especially appreciate the scripture you include in every episode. You hop on some great bikes. I have to admonish you to slow down! In every podcast, you start out in a 25mph residential area. I have seen on your speedometer 50mph in an area where there could be children that you don't see and that don't see you. If you were driving like that in the neighborhood where my grandchildren live, we would have a problem. I know that at the time you usually do these podcasts there are no kids to be seen, but that is no excuse. I used to love to ride a couple of grossly overpowered bikes, and I know how hard it can be to keep them under 90mph, when they will do 90 in second gear. I'm not bashing your channel, I like your content, but you, as a Christian man, have to know that our Lord and Savior instructed us to obey the laws of the land. While traffic ordinances may seem trivial, the 25mph in residential areas, are there to protect our children. It would be a tragedy should you hit a child doing 40mph in a 25mph residential zone. Slow these bikes down in these areas, and I'll be your biggest cheerleader.
