Yamaha Tracer 700, 2018 - How good it is?
Finally I have the chance to ride this motorcycle. I really want it, because the new Yamaha Tenere 700 will use the same engine. The first impressions were good. Nice looking bike with powerful engine. It is parallel twin and delivers 74 H.P. More then enough for city ride and trips around the world. The suspension is nothing special, but the brakes are really excellent. The wet weight is 196kg which is good for city riding and for slow manoeuvrers. On the highway it is not problem to cruise with 140-150km/h. Inoveral the only cons I found on this motorcycle are the 17Inch front wheel and the weak suspension. The price in Germany is 8,500 euro.

I own a Tracer 700 for a year now and I agree with all yours comments, as for the suspensions you can adjust them a bit at the back if needed. It's an easy bike, I have a lot of fun with it for both commuting and road travels. Thanks again for all your videos and advices, I can't wait to see your next travel vlog. Ride safe

Hey Pavlin! I completed my mc license last summer and bought brand new Tracer 700 in august as my first bike and i have ride almost 14000km, and i only have good things to say about it. engine is very reliable and is very cheap on oil and petrol. My longest journey was about 1300km in one day and it was no problem at all. I have the comfortable heated seat and grips and im 178cm tall and wheigh 78kg, so its perfect for me. If you ride about 100-130kmh it will be on 4500.5000 rpm and use about 0,4 to 0,5 liters per 10km And that is with heavy luggage, 3 hard cases. So you need to stop and fuel about evry 300 to 350km or so if you ride over 100kmh with heavy luggage. Love your channel and ride safe! Looking forward seeing you on nord kapp and ive been there myself, its very cold, even in summer. Chiao :)

In USA I have an FZ-07 with Givi 35 Liter side cases.. 42 Liter Top case with luggage rack where I keep a dry bag with tent , sleeping bag .. air mattress.. also 15 Liter Tank bag.. I had a small Puig windscreen but broke it when I hit a Deer .. Now I have a Mad Stad Adjustable windscreen do to my 165 cm height I only got a 16" windscreen I need to order a 20" or 22" windscreen.. If only I could add the Tracer front on my 2016 FZ-07 which basically is an MT-07 I was just looking at Givi Crash Bars.. I need some running lights.. With one light bulb .. If I adjust low beam correct then high bean is too high .. If I adjust high beam correctly low beam is too low ..

Hi Igor. I actually test rode and MT07 like this yesterday. Really enjoyed the bike bit I experienced a-lot of buffeting from the windscreen. I’m 1.86m tall and I noticed the “bubble” only goes as high as my visor. Anything above that is hit full on with the “shockwave”. Did you experience the same and does the Givi screen take that away (to a large extent)? If I can get around that I’ll get one most likely.

Great review. I tested a 700 and 900 tracer back to back a few years ago. I much preferred the 700 power delivery. The 900 was too fierce. I too found the riding position too low and I’m not as tall as you. It feels like the wheelbase is short. I found that I was very cramped, knees and elbows at less than 90 degrees. Also I tested in autumn when the sun was low in the sky and the Speedo reflected the sun into my eyes. It could do with an angle adjuster or a sun shade. On the plus side, it was easy to handle and the kerb weight under 200kg wet is a welcome change to the ridiculous weights of bikes even in the middle weight sector. Many of the new 600 to 700 cc bikes are heavier than my 1130 Benelli Amazonas. With modern materials it’s inexcusable that big trailies weigh between 230 and 270 kg wet. The Tracer is a lovely bike and if you could give it longer legs By raising the seat I might buy one

Hi Pavlin, the 700 Tracer is a perfect Touring-machine, but never an adventure-bike. It looks very well, is not too heavy and is from premium Yamaha-quality. I like it very well, not at least because it is the little and modern sister of my brave 850 TDM. The excellent torque results from the cross-plane Motor. My TDM (4TX) was one of the first with this technic. I am sure, that the 700 Tenere will be the absolutely perfect adventure-Bike for you. Wait for it!! Ride safe, Hans

An excellent review, as always, Pavlin. I have a suggestion to make: please have someone take a picture of you riding the bike, so we tall people can see how our legs will accomodate ;-). I think the Tracer, the Versys and maybe the CFMoto MT (the chinese Versys) are the perfect touring bikes, for now. But for the adventure trips you do, until the new Tenere is launched, the only similar options are the Vstrom or the Versys 300

I agree with your comments. It's an easy bike to get used to very quickly. It handles well, is comfortable for me, at 178cm and 67 kilos, has a good front brake and has a really great engine. Everything just felt right. Cruising on the motorway at 130 kph, there was no vibration and the wind buffeting wasn't too bad at all. But it has some negatives that made me hesitate. On bumpy roads the bumps were not handled well by the suspension. The bike felt very stiff. Also I didn't like the dash, for me it was too small and the position is too low. I like to see the RPM and KPH without effort. The last negative I found was that on close inspection the bike looked cheap and many owner have complained about early corrosion. I think I'll wait for the T7.

It's awesome motorcycle, something like in between cruse and short trips around town coffee racer. My personal favorites of cruse and sport bike is: "Vulcan "S 650. It's a mean machine and is got everything . The heart of sport bike, and the comfort of a classic crosser. It's amazing added benefit from adjustable Kawasaki components make the Vulcan S 650 the ultimate in versatility for riders of varying sizes. Low-seat only 705 mm, and slim overall design makes it easy to reach the ground with both feet contributing the rider confidence, ABS break system, Liquid-cooled DOHC , 8-velves, Blagodarq

Long time coming the new T7, how good it will be is maybe getting less and less as time passes. Great thing about having single cylinder bike is that they are easy and cheap to rebuild, 130k on you bike is still OK I have 188k on my DR 650 and it still not use any oil. SWM 600 super dual X is a bike you have to try if you can get your hands on, one bike that has everything most adventure riders ever want.

Great review as normal. I've owned one of these for 7 months and done 6000 miles over the winter, mainly commuting to work. It's a good bike, the thing I don't like is the weird starter/kill switch. During the winter the grease washes out of it and dirt gets in. This causes the switch to stick on, engaging the starter motor after it's started running. Not a good design! The motor is really good for it's size though!

Hey Pavlin, until recently I was an owner of the Tracer 700 for 9 months and 6500 miles, I have to say there's a few things that are annoying. 1. the lack of the centre stand made my life complicated when it came to clean the chain, moving the bike a few centimetres at a time is not pleasant, yes you can have something to lift the back wheel to do the job, but where are you going to store that piece of metal after, in my case there's no room for that. 2. The horn button is just badly positioned, even after months I still had the problem of hitting the wrong button 3. The cheap tool that comes with the bike to adjust the suspension is horrible, I hurt myself several times when that tool slipped out of the suspension, other bikes currently offer friendly ways of dealing with that. 4. The heated seat, is a comfortable seat but it's not the most comfortable out there, specially if you attempt a 4 day riding (doing about 300/400 miles a day) you will feel sore. 5. This bike was fabulous with the winter pack - this was an offer done by Yamaha around November 2017, although I'm not so sure if I would buy it again for the current full price of £8,300 - I think for that price there are other bikes out there that offer better options for the price. 6. The "hand guards" are not hand guards, they are aesthetically beautiful but they provide 0 wind protection to your hands, fortunately the heated grips do help, but you better have some proper winter gloves and most likely some inner gloves, otherwise the option is to get a givi hand guard and that just takes the beauty of the bike away, also they will not protect you hands if you fall/crash. 7. One last annoyance is the position to put air in the tyres, it's the most annoying job because they are straight and those disc brakes are on the way.. I was never successful at doing it first time, almost had to take all my gear out to fight the air system. :D I think that summarises all the downsides that I found as a owner the bike, and I wish someone would have covered that for me in reviews but we all have different views, this is just my opinion.

Or India ? Maybe it's better to look for a new engine for the XZ660Z while you look for a replacement ?? That radiator, and oil filter ( who thought it would be a good idea to mount it there???) I think even you now begin to think is this Tenere 700 really going to be the bike for me, even if it is ever made...?? RSMF

Yes, Paul, I was thinking exactly the same. If I can find engine as mine on less than 10,000km I will change it and ride with pleasure in the next 5 years. The Tenere will be great, I am almost sure about it, but on what cost - 10,000 euro? I prefer to spend that amount traveling. The bike is just a tool, the travel is what really matter...

Hello. Good review. Few questions : 1- Some testers suggest fitting Öhlins rear shocks. Do you think it is necessary? 2- Is material quality good ? 3- Is the seat hard? Is comfort seat option necessary? 4- Did you feel vibration on handlebars after some riding as this was a problem with NC700X I had. Thanks
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 5 жыл бұрын
You can change the shock, but it is not necessary. Build quality is very good. Stock seat n any bike is not good. No vibrations.

Great bike and I'm sure the engine will be good in the new T7. But I'm bored with waiting for it to be honest. Yamaha have missed the boat. For me CB500X with bashplate and enngine bars plus rack for my pack is next I think. For me this is enough once I have TKC70 fitted. For you? How about ANOTHER TENERE with fewer kilometres? You know that bike intimately and have all the modifications you need. Happy travels.

I don't thing that I will take the new Tenere, or at least not now. First of all, it need to prof that it is capable to go around the world and this usually takes year or two and the second reason is that it will be around 10,000 euro. I prefer to spend the money traveling. For next year I will probably change the engine of my Tenere.

Will you do 1440p60 videos possibly anytime soon? Step up in video quality, as media consumption devices get better, so does the media with it too,eventually. (Editing takes a hit, but its worth it) less compression from youtube (upload 1080p60 as 1440p60,try it :D ) Just my 2cents on the idea

Hello Pavlin.. I appreciated every video you've done. Especially when you talk about the prudence every biker must have when riding. Good advices. About the bike you NEED... C'mon, every bike, as you said, has pros and cons, some of them are better than others, but none is hugly. So I think the choice must be a passional one: change you Yamaha XT (of course keep it in your garage...maybe in your living room ;-)) with the bike you LIKE! because otherwise you'll have always the doubt of have bought the wrong one. When you "love" a machine, you'll accept its little defects and the symbiosis will be fine :-). Lamps

FJ-09/Tracer 900 (2015- 2017 ... (not sure for the upgraded 2018)) has the same witght as Tenere 660 (check the specs). Tenere has upper center of gravity, FJ is lower and you feel it much lighther (I can tell.. since I have had them both)... Certainly the purpose of each one is different, yet the power of the 3 cylinder motor in the Tracer 900 is just superb

My Tenere, after the mods I made is 180kg. The Tracer 900 is 210kg. More than my bike include the luggage, but this is not the main reason I prefer to travel with simple bike. There are many more and I will explain it with more details in one of my next videos.

Great review, like usually! 👍🏻👍🏻 I think that right bike for you is Honda Africa Twin, model 2016-2017 (not latest one). Why? 21 inch front and 18 inch rear wheel! I using mostly on the road (great). I did light off road (double great!). It has cable operated clutch, not much electronics (like new model), great engine (the same like model 2018) and now you can find model 2017. brand new for 10-11 thousand euros. And with Honda you will get headache free! King, tell me pls what is better Honda NC750x (let’s say manual transmission) or this Tracer 700? Cheers and keep going 💪🏻🏁

Before I watched the video I said to myself "he wants to check out that engine and so do I". It is the right engine, not too big, not too small, low weight, high torque. If Yamaha tries very hard could they keep the T7 at 175 kg or even less. Will it be called The Mighty T7. How about the suspension could you get any idea what it was the last time you saw the prototype. Thanks for another informative review. I think Yamaha should pay you for your input.Ride Safe Brother

Twin cylinder engines have more torque in low RPMs and are therefore suited better for the demands of an adventure tourer like low speed back roads, country roads, and highway roads carrying luggage and people.. 4 cylinder engines will produce more power at higher RPMs which is good for reaching high speeds and acceleration, but that's not as important for these kind of bikes.

If you are not interested in pay a liste 10.000€ for the T700 or 8.000/10.000 for the CRF1000L, maybe it's not bad idea to rebuild the engine, you can expect up to 65 hp, there are people who make a raptor conversion and with the right personsthy can get up to 734cc, like one KTM but more sheap. Nive videos, I like the experiences you share with us! Ride safe
