Yamaha #TTS303 #YamahaTurntable is the first deck in 30 years from Yamaha. The TT-S303 record player is a belt drive turntable with a switchable phono and line output in a beautiful black Hi-Fi design. In true Yamaha fashion, the TT-S303 doesn't just look amazing but sounds the part too.
The record player has a phono EQ amplifier (phono preamp), so you have the option of connecting to a line input on an amp without a phono stage, or even to active speakers! Alternatively, if you want to utilise the phono stage of your amplifier, switch the TT-S303 to phono output mode for the perfect pairing with your favourite amplifier.

I bought one and replaced the cartridge with a Rega Bias 2 and the felt mat with 2 old lps double sided together - Very happy with the sound !!!

I have this turntable and upgraded the cartridge and am satisfied with the quality. A drawback for me is that headshell/cartridge combinations don't seem to exist for this turntable since it has an angled headshell and straight tonearm so if you buy a new cartridge you will have to attach and align the cartridge using a turntable protractor which isn't a big deal but it makes quickly changing and comparing cartridges impossible.

@@TLPCHC Audio Technica do make universal headshells like the AT-HS3 & AT-HS4BK to suit straight tonearms. But I can't find a Yamaha model number as a direct replacement. Which is the main reason to have a removable headshell. So it's easier to swap out cartridges.

I went an bought some Audio Technia AT-HS4 headshells for my 500 and an using those to swap cartridges but you have to buy the cartridges separately and align them but once it is done they are easily changeable

That really is a beautiful turntable. I'm looking to buy our first turntable and I've been recommended the Rega P1 very highly for it's amazing sound over others of the same price range. I had not heard Yamaha makes turntables until now while doing some research. I wonder how it compares to the Rega?

I want a turntable with a removable head shell. A lot of turntables that I’ve seen don’t. I’m always afraid of damaging the fragile tone arm wires. From what I’ve seen, it looks like the Yamaha does have a removable head shell.

It would also be funny at some point to have someone off camera throw a piece back at you and you could say "Whoops, I accidentally used boomerang grip." You could also add a disclaimer like "No accessories were harmed in the making of this video."

Does this turntable need to have a phonostage? And if you are planning to buy an another cartridge, which one is best?

No. It has one (but an external phono stage would be better anyway)

Connect the TT-S303 to the amplifiers Phono input via the supplied RCA cables. Please see 7:47 in this video for the GQ setting info.

No - I didn't. It maybe adjustible. but it comes out of the box pre-set

they can ship grand pianos worldwide undamaged. their packaging is engineered and brilliant. shame deck is not direct-drive. they probably had help with it, in development, if not manufacture. will earch for other models.........from amaha. never thought that japan inc. would et back into vinyl. Technics, Luxman, too!

Hi Allan. Direct drive has its benefits, but costs too (rumble etc) don't look at a belt drive as lessor option, as the belt helps to absorb motor "pull".

It can be, but we would normally worry about levels up the food chain.

The turntable looks cheaply made. My old Kenwood had some weight to it. Tried finding a vintage turntable on EBay but all the good ones only seem to be available from Japan.

It has an external Plug Pack styler power supply, so you can get one for any country and voltage

I woudl recommedn the one for the brand of cart you are using. Ortofon (for example) have one and it works well for their carts.
