Virago 535 Air filter cleaning/replacement
Partnumber for filter element: 2GV-14451-00-00
or 2NT-14451-00 (1996-2002)
Seat removal, you need 10 mm wrench.
Tank removal, you need 12mm (back) and 8mm (front) wrenches.
Air intake hose band opening, you need cross head screw driver.
Air filter element box opening, you need cross head screw driver.
Air flows into element from the top and goes inside element flowing thru, so it is correct to blow compressed air from outside to in to remove dust from filter paper. I may say something else on the video ...

Thank you very much for your video. I'm changing my filter now after (oh my god) 10 years on a 1998, 98.000 kms XV 535. One thing I did was let it go to reserve to be able to remove the fuel tank entirely (and I won't be holding a camera either). Thanks again from Portugal.

i have just cleaned my viragos air filter by the help of your video. thanks. can you also make a video about removing and checking the fluid of the battery? i have been looking around but couldnt find a video about it.
@jarmojarvinen1585
@jarmojarvinen1585 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, replacing the battery is rather simply, but those fuel lines disturb a bit. I have been able to slide battery out and in between them without disconnecting them. I have checked fluid level visually from fill hole by ensuring there are few mm electrolyte over cells which you see in right light. Use flash light if needed. Another way is to have an gravity meter (hydrometer), put the flexible tube in from fill hole, it goes all the way to the cells, squeeze the bulb, release the bulb and it will suck electrolyte in. If you have enough electrolyte you get it sucked into meter (means you have it above cells). Motorbike battery is small and if hydrometer is large you may not get enough electrolyte into meter to measure gravity (try to obtain meter with small inner volume, made for small batteries). This way you see that there is so much that it covers cells and goes few mm above. If you cannot get it into meter you have too low level, definetly. Fill more battery water i that case.

Hi Sorry for delay. Actually supports were installed when this virago came into my hands. I can see that some modification may have been done as these is brass welding, like filling holes in back part of the frame. Honetly I have not investigated that further. Have a great driving season.

On the bigger Virago's the air filter is on the right side inside the chrome box to the front. What is the purpose of this on the 535 as I see a part of the filter mechanism running into the box on the front? I kind of understand that it brings air to the filter but isn't it completely sealed inside the cover? And this is a very helpful video as I haven't changed mine since I got it, erm, 8 months ago! So it's time for a replacement. Thanks :)

Glad that you find it useful. Reminds users that there is such a thing in bikes also, they are sometimes a bit hidden, like here. Honestly I do not know, maybe it was just easy to use frame shape to guide air to carburetors and air intake guided to chrome box invisible, Better reduction of noise? Filter untake is quite well sealed to filter, but is rest absolytely tight ,,, Was quite rugged so I suppose it is.

Mielenkiintoista.

you might not see this but i hope you do. i replaced my airfilter today but i noticed i dont have that hose you connect to the top of the air filter element. i have been driving the bike for a month however and seems fine.(just got it) but now i am wondering if i might be driving with less power than i could. i dont know if this could be bad for the air fuel mixture. should i try and buy it from a bike scrapyard or is it not a problem? kinda worried atm.

Well i have just gotten my lisence and at first i wanted a Kawasaki VN 800. But that was 3.000€. This bike was 1.200€ So that meant either save up till winter and not ride all that time. (wich lets face it is just to damn hard) Or buy a cheaper 1 now. So that i did. But my father in law is a hugh Harley fan. And lets face it. They have some god damn sex appeal. So started looking around for second hand. around 8 grand for a 2004 1200cc sportster. so getting the 3k as a down payment and financed the rest. But after paying my morgauge bills etc is still have around 1050€ left to spend. So yeah. Why not. Just bought this bike (dont get me wrong i love it) cause i dont have any patience haha.
