Fantastic video .. helped me where I wouldnt had a clue .. great tips . I also read to shave a little off the top of the tabs with a Stanley blade .. along with heating up with hairdryer ,all 3 tabs popped off easy .. Thanks for taking the time to make the tutorial

Yup, ended up doing the same. - The tip for the lock-ring (or whatever it's called) with a socket also worked like a charm!

Found out that a paint can opener is a pretty good tool to use to separate the fuel pump housing it was a lot easier than the pick!

I heated tabs with heat gun, about a foot and a half away, to sofen the plastic and kept my fingers next to tabs as not to get to hot. Worked much better than cold.

my picks just bent , so I got brutal and cut away the plastic tabs just enough to release the pump body. When I refit the pump I'm going to put some self tapping screws into the plastic tabs to keep the plastic housing in place. Will be really easy to do it again

This video really helped. The only problem was I did this at night, in the yard, rushing, which was incredibly stupid. The bike turns over well, but now won't start at all. Fresh gas, new 3 gallon IMS tank, new seals, but when I looked inside I saw what seemed to be squiring possibly from the black, durable hose on the housing. I'm really hope I didn't somehow mess it up. I hope it's something really, really stupid and easy to fix. Tomorrow is another day. I wish I had a damn garage!

ShotGunRoleModel that's a bummer! If you can see the line has fuel coming out of the fuel line on the pump, you do have an issue. You can try to take the pump and housing out and wrap it with repair tape, but that will only be a temporary fix. I'm not sure if you can order just the new line or if you have to order the whole housing. Good luck on your efforts and let me know what you find that works.

The fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator kit I installed was a: Quantum 30mm EFI Fuel Pump w/ Regulator For Yamaha WR250R 2008-2019 (HFP-390-UR) Unit Price: $79.98 Total Price: $79.98 My Wr250r is a 2008. When I took it for a long ride, the bike got hot and I turned it off... the fuel pump wouldn't activate when I tried to turn the bike on. Also, 1st gear was lurching... almost like the fuel pump wasn't delivering fuel smoothly. After the install, the bike runs like new!

I just ordered this pump. The bike was struggling. It would barely turn on and idle. After 15 times it’ll idle. As soon as I hit the throttle it would shut off. Hoping this is the piece to the puzzle.

Do what he does and take the o-ring out and seat it directly onto the pump before installation. I skipped that step and since it was perfectly aligned when I looked I thought it would seat just fine. Wrong. Ended up with a no-start because there was no pressure on account of the o-ring being cockeyed when I took it back out to inspect what the problem was. I noticed the pump would shift more than you would expect given the friction fit of an o-ring. Then I looked up into the socket where the outlet fits and didn't see the o-ring. I knew immediately when the pump outlet could move freely what my problem was. I fit the o-ring directly to the pump outlet and reinstalled. Fired right up. Learn from other's mistakes!

Fuck I forgot that snap ring that goes over the pin on the bottom of the filter. Oh well, about to fire her up hopefully it starts! Thanks for this video dude, huge help

@@chad7462 No good. The new pump is whirring nice and loud, there's gas in the tank, it's still not even coughing on its own. I got it to idle a few seconds on starter fluid so I feel like it's still an issue with fuel. I did end up ordering a pressure regulator that got stuck in the mail so hopefully that comes soon and I can try replacing that. Otherwise....I'm out of ideas I was pretty damned sure it was the pump 😂

Starts and runs until it’s warm, then dies and won’t start again until it cools down.

I can only seem to find wr 125 fuel pumps for like 400 ?? Seems way to expensive can i just get the pump and see if that fixes it just wont start after a run so needs fixing

Charlie Shakur that price most likely includes the pump housing. You can just buy a fuel pump for anywhere between $40 and $100. That’s why I made this video, to show how to get the pump out of the housing. That housing is very expensive.

@@chad7462 nice so the shop nearly got 500 out plus work done lol i take the housing should be ok then if it just not starting now and again as u can hear if it working when u start the bike il probs need new filters to as done atleast 5000 miles and no change

Charlie Shakur yeah, try air filters and maybe clean the carburetor and jets. I’m assuming it’s carbureted, where it’s a 125.

@@chad7462 its the yamaha wr125 fuel injection i beleave its the motor sometimes it just dont fire up or it could be something more in depth mite take to yamaha and let them test it all

Mine was dying when it got warm and then wouldn’t restart until it cooled off. That was a known fuel pump issue with my model year. That’s why I replaced the fuel pump, and it fixed my problem.

You should hear your fuel pump the first few seconds after you turn the key on. If you don’t, and it doesn’t start at all, it’s most likely your fuel pump.

I could always hear my fuel pump turn on. However, the motorcycle would die when it got hot and when I would try to restart it, I could hear the fuel pump running, but it would not start until it had cooled down. This is a known issue on the 2010 model replacing the fuel pump fixed my problem.

This pump should work. If you ever need to know what any OEM part on your bike is www.rockymountainatv.com has full schematics on most Yamaha models. It's been helpful for me, in the past.

Matt, I ride this strictly off road. I do mostly technical single track. I have put about 100 hours on the pump. I have had no issues at all.

Question to this forum, My 2010 WR250X starts and runs perfect when cold. After about 30 minutes of running the bike WILL NOT START. After it cools off for about an hour, it starts right up and run perfect again. Could this be the issue? Thank you everyone.

Jan, that is most likely the fuel pump. That is exactly what mine was doing. Once I replaced the pump, it had no issues.

Where is the regulator mounted?

The regulator is mounted horizontally on the top of the pump housing. at 3:56 you can see it jutting out of the top of the housing. It's got a black cap on it.
